How to Stream a Prerecorded Church Service on YouTube from a Windows Laptop in India

You can livestream a prerecorded church service from a Windows laptop by loading the video into an OBS Studio Media Source, sending OBS’s encoder feed to a YouTube Live event, checking the preview, and then starting the event in YouTube Live Control Room. First confirm your channel can livestream and that you have permission for every song, clip, and other third-party element in the recording. Rehearse the complete playback and connection before the service; OBS and YouTube support this workflow, but neither guarantees that a particular laptop or internet connection will handle it reliably.

Before setup: check channel eligibility and content rights

Confirm that the channel can go live

YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days, and states that streamers must be at least 16. Complete any live-stream setup in advance rather than discovering an eligibility issue on service day. See YouTube’s live-streaming requirements.

Clear the recording’s content

Review the whole service recording for worship music, video clips, photographs, readings, or other material you do not own. A church setting does not by itself exempt a stream from copyright review. YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. A match may replace the stream with a placeholder; if the material continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream, and a copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also end it.

If you have permission or a license for third-party material, ask the rights owner whether your YouTube channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube warns that licensed content can still interrupt a live stream if the channel has not been allowlisted; restricting a stream to territories where you own the necessary rights does not remove that requirement. A receipt, credit, or general permission to use a song is not proof that the specific live use is cleared. YouTube’s explanation is at Copyright issues with live streams. These platform instructions do not establish which Indian license applies to a particular church, recording, or repertoire; confirm the rights for your actual use with the relevant owner or a qualified adviser.

Prepare the prerecorded service in OBS Studio

Create a scene and add the file

  1. Open OBS Studio and create a scene for the service. Give it a clear name so you can identify it when preparing the broadcast.
  2. In the Sources panel, select the add button, choose Media Source, and create a new source.
  3. Enable the local-file option, browse to the service recording, and select it. OBS documents support for common video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, FLV, TS, GIF, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
  4. Check the OBS preview for the intended picture framing, and check the audio meters while the file plays. Confirm that the sound is audible and not distorted; listen through the actual computer and OBS setup you intend to use.
  5. Choose playback behavior deliberately. Media Source can loop a file and can restart playback when the source becomes active. Enable looping only if you intend the service to repeat. Rehearse what happens at the end of the file so you do not assume it will restart or continue in the way you want.

Use settings suited to the actual connection

Do not copy a bitrate from a generic India-specific recipe: the suitable value depends on the output resolution, frame rate, encoder, and the upload capacity available at your location. YouTube’s current encoder settings table lists supported codecs, bitrate recommendations by resolution and frame rate, and other ingestion settings. Consult that table when configuring OBS: YouTube live encoder settings.

YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its settings page lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS video ingestion, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. Match OBS to a combination supported by YouTube and your encoder; do not select a codec simply because it appears in the table if your OBS setup does not offer or reliably handle it.

Create the YouTube Live event and connect OBS

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Create an immediate stream or schedule one under Manage. Scheduling gives you a watch page to share ahead of time and lets viewers set reminders; an immediate stream is more suitable for an unplanned broadcast. Follow the current workflow in YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.
  2. In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key shown for the event. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose the YouTube service if available, and enter the event’s stream details as prompted. Use the URL displayed in Live Control Room, not a guessed server address.
  3. Use RTMPS if the encoder supports it and Live Control Room provides an RTMPS URL. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL and notes that the default displayed URL may be ordinary RTMP. Check its guidance at YouTube’s RTMPS streaming information.
  4. Keep the stream key private: YouTube describes it as password-like. Do not show it in a screen share or send it in a public message. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder with the replacement key.

Rehearse the complete path before service day

Test playback, upload, and the watch page

  1. Run the entire video through the OBS scene, not just a short opening segment. Confirm the intended playback and ending behavior, picture, and audio.
  2. Check the laptop’s actual upload performance while it is connected to the network you will use for the broadcast. The combined stream bitrate should remain below the available upload bandwidth with room to spare; YouTube recommends 20% headroom. A speed result from another room, time, or connection does not establish performance at the service location.
  3. Start OBS output ahead of the planned start and wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room. Inspect its preview, listen for sound, and open the watch page as a viewer to check access. If you want to test publicly shareable access without announcing the service, use an unlisted test event.
  4. Monitor the stream health, picture, and sound during the rehearsal and broadcast. YouTube recommends testing the encoder, previewing the stream, checking the watch page, and continuously monitoring audio and video. Its guidance is at YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

YouTube recommends a reliable connection, but there is no single internet-speed figure established here for every Indian location, plan, video format, and encoder setting. Ethernet is optional, not a YouTube requirement: use it only if both the laptop and router support a wired connection, directly or through a compatible adapter. A tested, stable Wi-Fi connection can also work.

Go live, then end the event cleanly

  1. For a scheduled event, start sending the OBS feed early enough to confirm that Live Control Room receives it and displays a usable preview.
  2. When the preview and audio are correct, select Go live in Live Control Room for the scheduled event. Starting OBS output alone does not launch that scheduled event for viewers.
  3. At the end of the service, end the event in YouTube and stop the encoder output in OBS. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not rely on automatic archiving for a longer stream.

Troubleshooting common problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check or do
Live Control Room shows no encoder feed OBS is not sending output, or its server URL or stream key does not match the event. Confirm OBS output is started, then compare the OBS stream details with the URL and key currently shown for that YouTube event. Reset and replace an exposed or possibly compromised key.
The event is scheduled, but viewers do not see the stream The encoder feed is present, but the scheduled event has not been started in Live Control Room. Check the preview and select Go live in Live Control Room when ready.
Video stutters or the stream health degrades The selected combined bitrate may be too close to or above the upload capacity, or the connection may be unstable. Check upload performance on the actual connection, leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and use the bitrate guidance for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate. Test a lower suitable output setting if necessary.
Picture appears but sound is missing or wrong The file’s audio may not be reaching the OBS output, or the selected recording may not contain the expected audio. Play the file through the Media Source during rehearsal, watch the OBS audio meters, and listen to the Live Control Room preview before launching.
The file stops or restarts unexpectedly Media Source playback settings do not match the intended end-of-file behavior. Review the source’s loop and restart options, then run a full-file rehearsal with the same scene and encoder setup.
YouTube replaces or interrupts the live feed A third-party-content match, copyright issue, or Community Guidelines issue may have triggered enforcement. Review YouTube’s notice and the recording’s rights. For licensed content, ask the rights owner about allowlisting the channel; a license alone may not prevent a live interruption.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want an uploaded recording to keep a YouTube channel live without leaving the Windows laptop running, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video from the cloud. The workflow is to upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a camera feed.
