How to Stream a Podcast Archive as a 24/7 Radio Channel on YouTube

Yes—you can turn a podcast back catalogue into a continuous YouTube Live radio channel using an encoder that sends a prepared episode playlist to YouTube. For a do-it-yourself setup, the encoder and a reliable internet connection must keep running, and you should record a local backup: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive. Before broadcasting, confirm that you have the rights to every episode element, including music and clips.

What a 24/7 podcast radio channel involves

A continuous YouTube Live feed is different from uploading episodes as ordinary videos. You arrange episodes into a sequence, pair them with a visual presentation, and send the output through an encoder to a YouTube live stream. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation describes a 24/7 feed; a regular creator can set one up in Live Control Room without building an API integration. See Google for Developers: Understanding Broadcasts and Streams.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The practical tradeoff is continuity versus operating responsibility: a local encoder must remain on and connected for the feed to continue. YouTube does not guarantee a full replay of an unbroken 24/7 broadcast, so keep episode files, metadata and a local recording separately if they matter to you.

Check eligibility and rights before you build the feed

Confirm the channel can go live

YouTube’s current guidance says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says streamers must be at least 16. Review YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming before scheduling the broadcast; eligibility and product requirements can change.

Audit every part of every episode

Having permission to publish a podcast in its original feed does not automatically establish that you have the rights needed for a YouTube live stream. Check episode audio, music, guest contributions, clips, artwork and any other visual material. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for the necessary rights—including music licensing—on the person providing the live content. Read YouTube Help: Livestream terms and conditions.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can lead to a warning, interruption or termination; even licensed material may trigger a match, and the rightsholder may need to allowlist your channel. Check YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams and resolve any necessary allowlisting before relying on an unattended broadcast.

Set up the continuous broadcast with an encoder

  1. Plan the episode order. Create a playlist or queue from episodes you have cleared for this use. Decide how episodes will repeat and prepare a title, description and visual presentation for the channel. A static image or visualizer is a production choice, not a YouTube requirement established by the guidance cited here.
  2. Create the live event. In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live and choose the encoder workflow in Live Control Room. Create or schedule the broadcast, then copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that event. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a signal to your stream. Follow YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder for the current interface.
  3. Configure the encoder. Send the playlist output to YouTube using RTMP or RTMPS. YouTube’s cited encoder guidance supports H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval. Use settings appropriate to your visual output and connection; do not assume an audio-focused channel needs a high-resolution picture. Check YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for current codec and bitrate recommendations.
  4. Run a representative test. Test with similar audio and video to the planned show. Check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room, confirm that the audio is intelligible and that the visual output is present, and verify that the broadcast is accessible as intended before announcing it.
  5. Keep the system running and monitored. The encoder, source playlist and internet connection need to remain available. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom rather than using the entire available upstream capacity. Monitor stream health and audio/video quality while live; a test reduces avoidable surprises but does not make the setup failure-proof. See YouTube Help: Streaming tips.

Protect the archive and preserve individual episodes

YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but if a stream exceeds 12 hours it may not be captured at all. Do not promise yourself or listeners a complete YouTube replay from a continuous 24/7 feed. Keep the original episode files and, where preserving the live output matters, make a local recording. YouTube specifically recommends retaining a local archive and checking that it is growing during the broadcast; see YouTube Help: Archive live streams and YouTube Help: YouTube live streaming tips.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Individual episode files and their titles or descriptions are also useful for recovery and for finding a particular show later. A continuous live channel and separate episode uploads serve different purposes; there is no universally preferable format for every podcast.

Understand monetization and reused-content risk

A live stream does not by itself make a channel eligible for YouTube monetization or guarantee revenue. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams, and monetization features depend on YouTube Partner Program participation and feature eligibility. YouTube also assesses whether monetized content is original and authentic; repetitive, mass-produced or reused programming may create channel-level eligibility problems even when you hold copyright permission. Review YouTube channel monetization policies and YouTube Help: Monetize your live stream. Whether a particular archive qualifies depends on the channel and the actual content.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • The encoder will not connect: Check that you selected the correct event, copied its current stream URL and key accurately, and that the encoder is using RTMP or RTMPS as configured. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  • The stream becomes unstable or drops: Check the connection and encoder health, reduce the output load if needed, and leave the upload headroom YouTube recommends. Re-test before restoring the full playlist.
  • Music or a clip triggers a copyright warning: Pause or replace the matched material and verify the relevant rights. If the content is licensed, contact the rightsholder about allowlisting; a license alone does not ensure YouTube’s detection system will not interrupt the feed.
  • The YouTube replay is incomplete or missing: A broadcast exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use your local recording and original episode files rather than relying on the live replay as the only copy.
  • The local backup is missing or stops growing: Check the recording destination, available storage and recording process while the stream is live. YouTube’s guidance recommends verifying that the local archive is actually being created.
  • The stream is live but monetization is unavailable: Check channel and feature eligibility, then review whether the programming meets YouTube’s originality and authenticity policies. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions.
