You can send a prerecorded video or playlist to YouTube Live from a Windows PC by using encoder software such as OBS: create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, enter its server URL and stream key in the encoder, then play and repeat your local video. First confirm that your channel can go live and that you have rights to every video and audio track. A local stream keeps running only while the PC, files, power and internet connection remain available.
Before you set up the stream
Confirm that YouTube Live is available on your channel
Check YouTube Studio before investing time in a long broadcast. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days, and says users must be at least 16 years old to live stream. Prepare content you are allowed to stream
Use video and audio you created or have permission to broadcast on YouTube Live. Finding a song, clip or image online does not make it cleared for a live broadcast. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. A rights owner may need to allowlist your channel in Content ID for licensed material; confirm this with the owner before going live. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Save the video files where the Windows account running your encoder can access them. For a playlist, check the order and confirm that every item plays before starting. A simple prerecorded-file stream does not require a capture card, webcam or microphone; those are only relevant to other production setups.

Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio

Open YouTube Studio and start creating a live stream. Choose the encoder workflow, then create a new stream or schedule one if you want its details ready in advance. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the connection process.

Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream into the encoder’s streaming settings. Use the current values shown in Studio rather than a URL or key copied from an old broadcast.

Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not post it, show it in a recording or share it with people who should not control the broadcast. If you think it has been exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.

Configure Windows encoder playback and looping
Connect the encoder
OBS is one option for local encoding. Add the YouTube server URL and stream key in its stream settings, following the current OBS interface and documentation. The exact labels and steps can change between versions, so use OBS’s current official streaming guide rather than relying on a screenshot from an older release.
Choose the local video or playlist as the source
Add the local media file or files as playback sources, arrange them in the order you want, and enable repeat or loop playback for the file or playlist. OBS controls for local media playback may vary by version and source type; verify the current controls in its documentation. Do not assume the stream is looping merely because a playlist exists: preview the ending and confirm playback returns to the beginning or advances to the next item as intended.
Select settings your connection can sustain
Measure your actual upload capacity and choose an encoder bitrate and output quality that leave room for normal fluctuations. A high resolution or bitrate is not useful if the connection cannot sustain it. YouTube recommends RTMPS; use the server address provided in Studio and its current live encoder settings guidance for supported resolution, frame rate, bitrate and keyframe recommendations. No single India-wide upload-speed requirement is established here: test the connection you will actually use.

Use a representative section with the fastest motion, busiest picture and loudest audio in your source when checking settings.

Run an unlisted or private test stream where available, then inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream-health indicators.

Listen for missing, distorted or out-of-sync audio and watch for buffering, dropped frames or unstable health before making the stream public.
Start the live stream and monitor it

In the encoder, start streaming to the server URL and key for the intended YouTube Studio event.

Wait for the incoming feed to appear in the Live Control Room preview. Check the title, visibility and other event details before making the broadcast public or starting the scheduled event.

Keep YouTube Studio and the encoder available so you can spot a loss of signal or stream-health warning. A local stream is dependent on the encoder PC, power, the source files and a stable internet connection; a Windows update, sleep setting, power cut or network interruption can stop it.

Keep a local setup running for a long broadcast
For a long or continuous stream, configure Windows so the PC does not sleep while plugged in, keep the source files in place, and avoid restarting or disconnecting the computer during the broadcast. Make sure the home connection has dependable upload capacity and consider what will happen during a power or internet outage. These precautions reduce avoidable interruptions but cannot guarantee uninterrupted 24/7 operation.
Local encoding avoids a cloud-service fee, but uses your own PC and connection and requires you to configure and monitor the encoder. Hosted cloud playout moves encoder runtime to a provider, adding dependence on that provider’s service, access and pricing terms. Features and reliability vary, so check current terms before relying on any service. Neither approach changes YouTube’s archive limits.
Plan for the YouTube archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” See YouTube’s archive guidance. If retaining the full broadcast matters, keep an independent local recording or plan sessions that stay within the stated duration; do not rely on a very long live archive as your only copy.
Copyright, reused content and monetization
Rights clearance applies during a live stream
YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party content matches. A match can interrupt a stream even if the material came from a recording you can play locally. Resolve permissions before broadcast and check whether the rights owner needs to allowlist your channel in Content ID.
Looping does not guarantee monetization
Being able to go live is separate from qualifying for the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). YouTube’s monetization policy says repetitive or mass-produced material is “inauthentic content”; its July 15, 2025 policy update clarified that this kind of content was already ineligible under existing rules. Repeating a video does not by itself establish that a channel or stream qualifies. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies and YPP eligibility guidance. The YPP overview requires residence in a country or region where the program is available; check current regional and account eligibility in Studio rather than treating live-stream access as monetization approval.
Common problems and practical fixes

Studio does not receive a signal: confirm the encoder is using the correct server URL and current stream key for the selected event, and that the PC is online. Replace a key that may have been exposed.

The stream buffers or health is unstable: lower bitrate or output quality, then test again on the same connection. Check other upload-heavy activity on the network and favor a sustainable setting over a higher nominal resolution.

The video stops at the end instead of looping: inspect the media source or playlist repeat control and test the transition in preview before going public.

Playback stops after a period unattended: check Windows sleep and power settings, confirm the source files remain available, and check whether the PC or connection restarted or disconnected.

A stream is interrupted for a content match: stop using the disputed material until rights are resolved. For licensed third-party content, ask the rights owner whether Content ID allowlisting is required.

The full broadcast is missing from archives: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a separate recording or use shorter planned sessions when archive retention matters.
