First confirm that the channel can go live, clear the rights for every track and visual, then choose encoder settings your VPS can sustain. YouTube’s official guidance covers eligibility, ingest settings, network planning and monitoring; the Ubuntu-specific playlist and restart commands still need to be checked against current FFmpeg and Ubuntu documentation before you deploy them.
What you need to prepare
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming.
- An Ubuntu VPS with sustained outbound capacity for your chosen stream bitrate, plus headroom.
- An encoder configured to send video and audio to YouTube over RTMP or preferably RTMPS.
- A playlist of audio and visuals you have the rights to use for this channel, stream, and intended territories.
- A tested way to loop the playlist and supervise the encoder process. YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe Ubuntu commands or a particular VPS size, so validate those implementation choices against current software and provider documentation.
Check YouTube live eligibility
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Confirm live access on the exact channel you intend to use before preparing the server; do not assume a new channel can stream immediately. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements.

Clear the Hindi music and visuals before streaming
A continuous loop is still a live broadcast for rights purposes. YouTube’s live-stream terms say the content provider must have the necessary rights for live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Read the YouTube Terms of Service and confirm that your permissions cover the actual recordings and compositions, the territories where viewers may access the stream, and the live-stream use.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a stream can be interrupted or terminated. Even if a track is licensed, the owner may need to allowlist the channel in Content ID to reduce interruption risk. Confirm the rights holder’s process in advance. Repeating the same recording does not remove copyright obligations or prevent content matching. YouTube’s guidance also does not establish that a playlist is eligible for monetization or that repeated content meets any separate channel policy.

Create the YouTube encoder stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and choose the encoder workflow. YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key for the encoder.
- Configure the encoder on the VPS with the provided ingest URL and key. YouTube describes the key as the encoder’s address and password for sending the feed.
- Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, commit it to a public repository, or include it in screenshots. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the server configuration.
- Use RTMPS when available for encrypted transport. YouTube supports encoder-based live streaming and recommends RTMP/RTMPS; see its encoder live-streaming setup guidance.
Choose resolution, frame rate, and encoder settings
Pick a resolution and frame rate that the VPS can send consistently, not simply the highest option. For a mostly static relaxation stream, a modest resolution and frame rate may reduce required bandwidth and server load; the right choice depends on the actual visual motion, audio quality, and capacity you can sustain. Use YouTube’s current bitrate table for the selected resolution, frame rate, and codec rather than copying a bitrate in isolation.

The published bitrate ranges vary with codec, resolution, and frame rate. Consult the live YouTube encoder settings table when configuring the stream, because a number for one combination should not be applied blindly to another.

Plan VPS bandwidth and reliability
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload capacity beyond the total stream bitrate and testing outbound bandwidth. This headroom is for the full outgoing stream, including audio and video; it is not a guarantee that a VPS plan will deliver stable throughput. Test from the relevant server or network and confirm sustained capacity under the conditions in which the stream will run. See YouTube’s network and encoder recommendations.
Compare candidate VPS plans on sustained outbound bandwidth, network reliability, support and recovery options rather than choosing from a CPU or memory figure alone. No particular provider, instance size, or fixed bitrate can be recommended from YouTube’s guidance alone. A cloud server is still subject to provider and network faults, so plan how you will detect a stopped encoder and restore service.

Implement looping and process supervision on Ubuntu
The key Ubuntu details—installing FFmpeg, writing a playlist loop, configuring a systemd service, handling restarts, and reading logs—are not specified by YouTube’s encoder guidance. Verify commands and configuration against current official Ubuntu and FFmpeg documentation for your Ubuntu release and installed FFmpeg version before using them in production. In particular, test that a playlist advances and loops as intended, audio does not fall silent between files, the encoder reconnects after a network interruption, and the service supervisor does not create a rapid restart loop.

Keep credentials out of world-readable scripts and logs, and ensure your process supervision does not expose the stream key. Validate the behavior by stopping the encoder deliberately and confirming that your chosen monitoring and recovery setup detects the outage and returns the stream to a healthy state.

Test in YouTube Studio and monitor stream health
- Start with representative playlist files and visuals, including the longest or most demanding items you expect to loop.
- Check the Live Control Room preview for picture, audio, aspect ratio, and continuity before relying on the stream.
- Review YouTube’s stream-health indicators and correct any warnings before treating the setup as ready.
- Monitor the feed during operation, including after an encoder restart or network interruption.
