To keep a model home visible on YouTube Live all day, send a continuous camera feed through a compatible encoder or camera-streaming system, and test the complete setup at the property before relying on it. Enable YouTube Live ahead of time, choose who can watch, and plan for power, internet interruptions, and someone who can respond if the feed fails. Choose what viewers will see
First decide whether the broadcast needs to show the home as it is now or can use a prerecorded walkthrough. Those are different productions: a camera feed shows a live view of the property, while a recording is a prepared tour played as a live stream. A single camera pointed at a room or feature is simpler to operate than a guided, multi-camera tour. Decide what the frame should include, check the view at different times of day, and consider whether changing light or activity in the room will make the feed useful to prospective buyers.

A guided or multi-view tour
Switching between rooms or camera angles requires a production path that can accept and manage those sources. YouTube supports software and hardware encoders, including setups using external video and audio equipment. Choose according to the camera inputs, controls, monitoring, and unattended operation your team needs; do not assume that every camera can send a stream directly to YouTube.

Prepare the channel and broadcast
- Enable live streaming in advance. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until launch day.
- Create or schedule the stream in YouTube Studio. Set the title and audience visibility, then use the stream URL and stream key shown for the broadcast in your encoder. The key lets the encoder send the feed for YouTube to accept. Restrict it to authorized operators and reset it if it is exposed.
- Choose the broadcast arrangement. YouTube distinguishes the broadcast viewers watch from the stream carrying its audio and video. For one ongoing tour, configure an ongoing broadcast and its stream. YouTube’s Live API also describes keeping a 24/7 feed running while making a separate broadcast, such as an interview, available at the same time. If only one event is live at a time, its API describes reusing a stream for recurring broadcasts.
- Set the encoder to match the production. Confirm the selected camera sources, audio, stream URL, key, and output settings before going live. Keep the key private; it is not a viewer link.
Set picture and audio for the property connection
Pick a resolution and frame rate that the camera, encoder, and actual upstream connection can sustain continuously. YouTube recommends 5 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p/30 fps. That is a platform recommendation, not evidence that a particular model home’s internet connection can deliver it reliably. Test at the intended settings from the installed location.
- For RTMP or RTMPS, use a supported video and audio codec and constant bitrate (CBR) encoding.
- YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery.
- Check audio even if the tour is mostly visual: unwanted equipment noise, silence, or poor microphone placement can undermine a polished presentation.
- Higher resolution and frame rate require a connection and encoder that can sustain the chosen output. Do not select settings based only on what the camera can capture.
YouTube publishes bitrate recommendations for other resolution and frame-rate combinations as well. Confirm the current recommendation for your exact output before configuring the encoder; a number intended for one format should not be treated as universal.

Test the full setup before opening the tour
- Install the camera and encoder where they will actually operate, then verify power, framing, focus, lighting, and any audio equipment.
- Connect the encoder to the intended internet service and enter the correct stream URL and key.
- Run a private or unlisted test, using movement and sound similar to what viewers will encounter during the real tour.
- Check the YouTube watch page from a separate viewer device, not just the encoder preview. Confirm the image, sound, playback, and visibility are as intended.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and messages during the test. Leave the system running long enough to reveal issues that may not appear in a brief preview.
- Document who can respond to an interruption and how the encoder or camera system will be restarted. Size power and network backup to the builder’s actual uptime target and site infrastructure.
YouTube’s platform guidance does not certify a particular property’s bandwidth, power resilience, camera placement, or outage plan. Those need to be assessed and tested at the installation site.
Choose privacy and playback behavior
- Public: appropriate when the tour is intended to be discoverable by anyone.
- Unlisted: useful when people should be able to view via a link without making the stream generally discoverable.
- Private: restricts viewing to the intended authorized audience.
Scheduled streams can appear as upcoming events. Enable DVR if viewers should be able to pause or rewind. Lower latency is most useful when interacting with viewers; YouTube notes it can increase playback buffering and is less important when the creator is not interacting with the audience. YouTube also provides encoder auto-start and auto-stop controls, which can shape the broadcast workflow.

Review property permissions and YouTube content rights
Technical readiness does not establish permission to film. Before launch, confirm the builder has the necessary permission for the property and review local requirements for notice, recording occupants or visitors, and filming neighboring property or private areas. Frame the camera to show the home without needlessly capturing people, documents, screens, or other sensitive details.
Use music, artwork, and other material only when the builder has the rights or permission needed for a public YouTube broadcast. A stream’s being unlisted or private does not itself grant rights to use copyrighted material. Also consider whether a tour made from repeated footage is sufficiently useful and original for the channel’s goals; a live format does not guarantee audience growth, leads, or monetization.
