YouTube’s stream setup connects an encoder to your channel; it does not guarantee that a playlist will repeat indefinitely. Confirm that your chosen playback tool supports the loop duration you need before you go live.
Choose a playback method that can repeat your tours
YouTube’s encoder workflow accepts a live feed from an encoder. The repeating part is handled by the encoder or its playback source, not by the general YouTube setup instructions. Check that the tool can loop your selected files for the full planned duration, and find out what happens when the playlist ends or the connection drops.

- Computer-based encoder: Run software on a computer, configure the prerecorded footage to repeat, and send its output to YouTube. The computer and its internet connection must remain available for the broadcast.
- Dedicated hardware: YouTube’s encoder directory lists the AJA HELO Plus and describes its PlayToStream feature as scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. That listing does not establish indefinite looping; confirm repeat behavior and current availability with the vendor before buying for this use.
- Cloud playback service: A cloud service can play uploaded videos without keeping a home computer running. Confirm that the service supports YouTube, the quality you need, and the intended playlist behavior.
Compare options by loop support, whether a computer must stay powered on, recovery and monitoring, stream settings, local backup, and total cost. The available documentation does not establish a like-for-like cost or reliability comparison across encoders.

Check rights for the complete tour
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to all material in the live feed, including footage, music, and other included content. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions say streamers represent that they have the necessary worldwide rights for live content, including music licensing rights.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A stream may be replaced with a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated if a match remains. Even if you have a license, a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and arrange any required allowlisting before the event.

Allow for upload capacity
Measure the connection’s outbound upload capacity, not just its download speed. YouTube recommends keeping 20% upload bandwidth headroom and notes that network disruption can break a stream. Use a stable wired connection where practical, avoid competing uploads, and test the full setup. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Set up and launch the YouTube Live stream
- Build and test the loop. Add the tour files to the encoder or playback tool and enable its repeat or loop setting. Verify that playback returns to the first tour as intended. Do not assume that YouTube itself repeats the playlist.
- Create the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream using an encoder workflow. Select the intended stream details and open Live Control Room.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the stream.
- Configure the output. YouTube recommends RTMPS, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. For 720p at 30 fps, YouTube’s settings table lists a video bitrate range of 2–6 Mbps. Check YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the settings appropriate to your chosen resolution and frame rate.
- Preview before going live. Start the encoder output and wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check the picture, audio, stream status, and public watch page before launching the broadcast.
- Monitor the broadcast. Keep an eye on Live Control Room and the encoder for interruptions, dropped connections, or a playlist that stops advancing. Have a recovery plan for restarting the encoder or switching playback sources.
Plan for long broadcasts and replays
Keep a local recording if the tour broadcast needs to be preserved. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is a platform limitation, not a guaranteed cutoff in every case. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Do not rely on the YouTube archive as the only copy of a long broadcast. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance and DVR guidance.

Troubleshoot common failures
- No live-stream access: Verify the channel and check for a live-streaming restriction. Resolve eligibility issues before scheduling.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Check that the stream URL and key were copied correctly, the encoder is sending, and the selected protocol and settings are supported. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Playback stops when the tour list ends: The playback tool may not be set to repeat, or may not support continuous looping. Test its repeat behavior before launch and use a tool that supports the duration you require.
- Feed drops or becomes unstable: Check outbound upload capacity and leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Reduce competing network use and inspect the encoder and connection before resuming.
- Copyright interruption: Check which material triggered the match. Remove or replace material you do not have rights to, or ask the rights holder to allowlist your channel if you are licensed to use it.
- Replay is missing or incomplete: If the stream exceeded 12 hours, YouTube may not have captured it, and DVR rewind may be limited. Use the local recording as the dependable archive.
