Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →To keep a college radio station live on YouTube around the clock, send its audio and a visual feed through a continuously running encoder connected to YouTube Live. Before configuring anything, confirm that the station has permission to simulcast its music and other third-party material on YouTube—and to leave any resulting replay available. A campus, terrestrial-radio, or existing web-radio licence does not by itself establish those rights.
1. Clear the station’s rights for YouTube first
Ask the station’s relevant rights holders or licensors whether its music and other third-party material are cleared for a YouTube live simulcast, in the territories where viewers may access it, and for any archived replay. Confirm the scope of permission rather than assuming that a licence for terrestrial broadcasting, campus use, or an existing web-radio stream covers YouTube.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination. YouTube also warns that even licensed material can cause a live interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. If a rights holder uses Content ID, ask them to allowlist the station’s channel. See YouTube’s guidance on live-streaming restrictions.
Do not treat a U.S. educational or noncommercial status as blanket clearance. The relevant U.S. statutory provision concerns a specified terrestrial retransmission context; it does not establish permission for a YouTube simulcast. The station’s actual rights depend on its country, repertoire, contracts, content owners, and plans for an archive. For U.S. context, consult 17 U.S.C. § 114 and get advice from the institution’s rights or legal office where needed.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Enable YouTube Live ahead of launch
Verify the channel and enable live streaming at least 24 hours before the planned start. YouTube for Artists gives this lead time in its live guidance for music channels. Do this early enough to discover any channel-level eligibility or setup issue before the broadcast is scheduled.
3. Build a continuous audio-and-visual feed
Use an encoder to combine the station’s audio with a static station image, visualizer, or other visual the station has permission to use. Connect that encoder to a YouTube Live broadcast. YouTube’s API documentation models the broadcast event separately from the audio-video stream and includes a 24/7-feed example: YouTube Live Streaming API: getting started.

An encoder-based setup offers more customization and control than a basic mobile or webcam stream, which is why it is the more relevant approach for a station that needs to supply a consistent audio-video feed. The sources do not establish a particular encoder model, computer, audio interface, or station wiring plan as best for every campus; those choices depend on the station’s existing mixer and audio source, operating system, staffing, reliability needs, and budget.
4. Match the encoder to YouTube’s ingest requirements
Choose an encoder and ingest workflow that support the protocol and formats you intend to use, then follow that workflow’s specifications. Do not apply one protocol’s requirements to every setup: for example, YouTube’s HLS guide specifies an M2TS container with H.264 or HEVC video and AAC audio, but those are HLS-specific requirements, not a universal setting list for all encoder workflows. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion guide.

Before relying on an around-the-clock broadcast, test the full chain: confirm that the station audio reaches the encoder, that the chosen visual appears, and that the intended ingest connection works. Also test what happens if that connection is interrupted, and establish who on the station team will check and respond to alerts. The right audio levels and encoder configuration depend on the station’s equipment and selected ingest path.
5. Monitor the broadcast and respond to interruptions
Keep YouTube Studio available to the people responsible for the stream. If YouTube interrupts or terminates a broadcast, check the live dashboard for copyright or Community Guidelines issues and address the specific issue shown there. If the interruption involves a rights match, contact the rights owner or licensor; a licence alone may not prevent another interruption without the relevant Content ID allowlisting.

Or let it run in the cloud
If the station wants to keep recorded programming on YouTube continuously without leaving a campus computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option for looping uploaded videos to YouTube. It is for uploaded recordings and playlists, not a live microphone or live radio input. To use it, upload the recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live.
- Nothing has to stay on at home or on a campus computer; the stream runs from the cloud.
- Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card; it is one free day per account.
- Monthly: $9.99 per month.
Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, and supports 24/7 looping and playlists. If the station needs a live simulcast of the current broadcast rather than playback of uploaded recordings, use the encoder workflow above. Start a StreamNeo free day.
