You can keep a recorded Easter service playing on YouTube by sending it from a streaming encoder to YouTube Live. First enable live streaming on the church’s channel, then configure the encoder with the stream URL and key, preview the feed, and monitor it while it runs. For a broadcast lasting over 12 hours, keep a separate local recording: YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived. Confirm rights to the service, music, and other included material before going live.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do this well before the Easter broadcast. YouTube also says a channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
- A recording the church is authorized to broadcast, including its music and any third-party material.
- An encoder—software or hardware—that can play the recording and send it to YouTube Live. For an unattended loop, check that the chosen encoder supports continuous playback and has a recovery plan if the connection drops.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the stream bitrate, plus headroom.
- A separate local archive plan if the stream may run longer than 12 hours.
Set up a continuous YouTube broadcast
1. Enable live streaming on the channel
Sign in to the church’s YouTube account and complete channel verification and live-stream activation in advance. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Check the channel’s eligibility before scheduling the broadcast rather than discovering a restriction on Easter day.

2. Choose and test an encoder
YouTube accepts streams from encoder software and hardware. Software may be sufficient for a straightforward recorded service; YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. Its encoder guidance includes CamStreamer and describes it as supporting 24/7 continuous streams, but that is a product capability—not a guarantee that a particular installation will stay online.

Before relying on any encoder unattended, test the full recording loop and check what happens after a network interruption or a YouTube disconnect. Confirm whether it resumes automatically, whether someone will monitor it, and whether it can make a separate local recording. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and encoder recommendations.

3. Create the YouTube Live stream and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or select the stream for the service.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in the Live Control Room into the matching fields in your encoder.
- Load the Easter-service recording and set it to repeat if you intend to run a loop. Check the encoder’s playback, recovery, and local-recording settings before starting.
- Start sending the feed from the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview for picture and sound before making the stream public or sharing its watch page.
YouTube describes the stream key as a password-like credential, so keep it private and do not share it in public messages or screenshots. YouTube says the watch page is created as the encoder stream starts. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
4. Check upload capacity and monitor playback
YouTube recommends upload capacity equal to the total stream bitrate plus 20% headroom. For example, if the configured stream bitrate is 6 Mbps, aim for at least 7.2 Mbps of available upload capacity for the stream. That is a capacity target, not a guarantee: other devices using the same connection can reduce what is available.

Set up ahead of time, check the preview, and verify access to the stream from the channel and watch pages, including on a phone. During the broadcast, monitor both sound and picture. YouTube’s live-streaming tips explain its network and operational guidance.

YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the Easter service will play continuously beyond that limit, enable or arrange independent local recording and check that the file is growing while the stream runs. Do not treat YouTube’s archive as the only copy. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Check rights before broadcasting
The church needs the rights necessary to use the recorded service worldwide on YouTube, including applicable music rights. YouTube’s live-stream terms say the provider represents that it has the necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights, and agrees to comply with applicable laws and regulations. Review the YouTube livestream terms and confirm permissions for the service recording, music, performers, and any third-party material with the relevant rights holders.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination; even when a church has a license, a rights owner may need to allowlist the channel through Content ID to avoid an interruption. YouTube states that “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and ask rights holders about allowlisting where appropriate.
