How to Stream a Church’s Archived Services on YouTube Live in a Continuous Schedule

You can put archived church services on a continuous YouTube Live stream by scheduling a Live event in YouTube Studio and sending it an encoder feed that plays the recordings in sequence or on a loop. The YouTube event handles the live destination and watch page; a separate playback system must supply and schedule the videos. YouTube’s documented setup does not establish a native scheduler that continuously queues archived services.

How the continuous stream works

There are two separate parts to the setup. In YouTube Studio, you create a scheduled live event and obtain its stream URL and key. Separately, an encoder sends YouTube the audio and video feed. That feed must come from a playback source configured to play the archived services, transition between them, and repeat or follow a schedule as needed.

Scheduling an event does not make YouTube play files from your archive. Choose a playback and encoder workflow that supports your intended sequence, and test its behavior rather than assuming YouTube will provide looping or unattended recovery.

Prepare the channel, recordings, and rights

Confirm live-stream eligibility

YouTube’s live-streaming help says a channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Requirements and Studio labels can change, so check the current eligibility information in YouTube Studio before planning the broadcast: YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

Check permission to rebroadcast each service

The church is responsible for having the rights needed to exploit live content on Google services. YouTube’s livestream terms expressly include music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants; live content must also comply with Community Guidelines and applicable laws: YouTube Livestream terms and conditions.

For each recording, review the agreements covering music, performances, images, and other third-party material. Confirm that the permission covers rebroadcast as a YouTube Live feed, the relevant territory, and the resulting on-demand archive. The platform terms state the obligation but do not determine what a particular church’s licenses permit.

Prepare files and a local backup

Check that the recordings play correctly through the selected playback source, including their audio and the transitions between files. Keep local copies in case the playback or streaming setup fails. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup: YouTube Help: Archive live streams.

Schedule the YouTube Live event and connect an encoder

  1. Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and use Manage to schedule a stream. Enter the event title, start time, visibility, and other metadata. This creates the scheduled event and its watch page; it does not queue your archived recordings.
  2. Choose an encoder workflow. YouTube supports encoder-based streams. Its guidance names software encoders, including OBS for HLS output, and notes hardware encoders as an option for higher-production streams. A hardware encoder is not established as necessary for this use case. See YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.
  3. Copy the stream URL and key. Enter the YouTube stream URL and stream key in the selected encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly or include it in screenshots or other material viewers can access. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains how to connect the encoder to the event: Create a live stream with an encoder.
  4. Configure the playback source separately. Set the source to play the archived services in the intended order, then repeat or follow the schedule you want. Verify supported file formats, audio, transitions, and what the system does if playback stops, power is lost, or the network disconnects. YouTube’s documentation does not certify a particular third-party scheduler or promise its recovery behavior.
  5. Start early and check the feed. Start the encoder ahead of the event, inspect the Live Control Room preview, and check the stream on the channel or watch page and on a mobile device. Monitor audio and video during operation. A successful preview does not guarantee uninterrupted playback.

Plan around YouTube’s archive limit

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not assume an exceptionally long continuous event will produce a complete on-demand archive. If preserving each service matters, plan shorter segments and retain local recordings. Check YouTube’s current archive guidance before setting the schedule: Archive live streams.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • The scheduled event exists, but no video appears: The event is only the destination. Confirm the encoder is running, the playback source is producing video, and the correct stream URL and key are configured.
  • The encoder will not connect: Check that you copied the URL and key for the intended event and that the key has not been changed. Keep the key private; if it may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  • The recording stops at the end instead of continuing: Check the playback system’s queue and loop settings. Continuous scheduling is a function of the chosen playback workflow, not a documented native YouTube playlist scheduler.
  • A service is missing from the on-demand archive: Check the event duration. YouTube warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Use shorter segments and local recordings when a complete archive is important.
  • Playback fails after a power or network interruption: Check whether the selected playback and encoder setup can resume or restart unattended; do not assume this behavior. Test recovery before relying on it, and preserve local copies.
  • Viewers cannot hear the service or see the expected video: Check audio and video in the encoder preview and on a viewer-facing watch page or mobile device before the scheduled start, then monitor them during the stream.
  • A recording cannot be rebroadcast: Review the applicable music, performance, image, and other rights. Having an archived file does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it live or make it available on demand.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a YouTube-only stream built from uploaded recordings, StreamNeo is an alternative to leaving a computer at the church: upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed; the church remains responsible for confirming rights to its recordings. Start the free day with StreamNeo.
