To stream a Bengali radio station to YouTube from an Indian VPS, get an authorized audio-feed URL from the station, send it through a server-side encoder to YouTube Live, and monitor both the feed and the stream. You also need YouTube live-stream access and permission to distribute the station’s audio in the territories where viewers can watch. The station’s feed address, format, authentication and rights are specific to the station; confirm them rather than guessing.
What you need before you begin
- An authorized station feed: the feed URL, protocol, any login credentials, expected audio format, and guidance on reconnecting if the feed drops. Ask the station operator for these details.
- Permission to retransmit: authorization to send the station’s programming to YouTube and, if you plan to keep a replay, to archive it. Receiving a public feed does not itself grant those rights.
- A YouTube channel with live access: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance.
- An Indian VPS suited to continuous outbound streaming: check the data-center location, sustained outbound capacity, included transfer, security controls, support terms and total cost. No particular VPS provider or plan is established here.
- An encoder and a visual signal: the VPS must encode the incoming audio and send it with a still image or suitable video signal. Pick a visual you have rights to use; the station logo is not automatically cleared for every use.
Prepare YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter the Live Control Room. If this is the channel’s first live stream, complete any verification or activation steps and allow up to 24 hours for access.
- Create or schedule the stream. Copy the server URL and stream key shown in the encoder setup. YouTube explains these fields in its encoder setup guide.
- Use RTMPS where your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends encrypted ingest; see its RTMPS guidance.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Store it in a protected configuration or secret store on the VPS, restrict access to it, and keep it out of public scripts, screenshots, source repositories and logs. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
Choose encoder settings for a radio-led stream
YouTube’s current encoder guidance includes these settings. Follow the values and options available in the Live Control Room for your stream; this article does not prescribe a resolution or video bitrate because the appropriate choice depends on the visual signal, VPS capacity and network.

- Confirm the input details with the station. Record the authorized URL, protocol, credentials, codec or container expectations, and what the operator recommends if the connection is interrupted. Do not assume a particular URL or format.
- Choose an encoder workflow. A headless server-side process is a plausible fit for an unattended VPS, while a graphical encoder may be easier to manage interactively if the server has a desktop environment. The actual choice depends on the VPS operating system, the feed format and your ability to supervise and restart the process.
- Configure the signal chain. The encoder must receive the station audio, pair it with a still image or other authorized visual, encode the output using a YouTube-supported format, and publish it to YouTube using the server URL and stream key. Verify the exact encoder options against current documentation for the software and operating system you select; the feed protocol and authentication are station-specific.
- Check outbound networking. Measure the selected stream’s sustained bitrate and allow network headroom for variation and other VPS traffic. Confirm that the VPS provider permits the required outbound connection and that any firewall permits it. NIC’s webcast guidance describes a 2–4 Mbps per-stream requirement for its own government webcast service, not a universal YouTube minimum; do not use that figure as a general VPS requirement. - Run the encoder under supervision. Use a process supervisor or equivalent service management so an encoder process that exits can be restarted, and arrange monitoring for both process failure and loss of the source feed. A restart mechanism cannot restore a dead source, repair a network outage, correct an invalid key or reverse a copyright interruption.
Test the stream, then monitor it
- Start with a private or unlisted test stream before announcing a public broadcast.
- Use the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages to confirm YouTube receives the signal. Listen for gaps, silence, distortion, unexpected source changes and audio-video mismatch.
- Test the encoder’s behavior when the source feed disconnects and reconnects. Confirm what an operator must do if it does not recover automatically.
- Arrange alerts for a stopped encoder, unavailable input and loss of the outbound stream. Check the stream periodically after launch; a running process alone does not prove that usable audio is reaching viewers.
YouTube recommends testing with content similar to the planned stream and monitoring stream health. No test or restart setup guarantees uninterrupted broadcasting.

Clear music rights before broadcasting
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a stream when it identifies copyrighted material. A license may not prevent an interruption if the relevant rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Confirm with the station and relevant rights holders that the channel may stream the programming on YouTube and that the rights cover the intended territories, music uses and any replay.
YouTube’s livestream terms say the broadcaster must have the necessary rights to use live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights and applicable public-performance licenses. Do not treat a station’s permission to receive its feed as proof that YouTube distribution is cleared.
Plan for long broadcasts and archives
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If replay matters, make a local recording and decide whether to end the broadcast before that threshold or divide a long schedule into separate streams.
