You can send a bhajan playlist to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, but a genuine 4K/2160p, 60 fps broadcast depends on compatible source files, an FFmpeg build and encoder that can keep up, and enough stable upload bandwidth. For SDR H.264, YouTube’s current English encoder guidance recommends 50 Mbps video bitrate at 4K/60 (14 Mbps minimum), CBR, and a two-second keyframe interval. This is a configuration runbook, not a validated one-command recipe: verify the installed FFmpeg version and test your actual files before going live.
Check that 4K/60 is realistic for your playlist and computer
A 4K/60 output setting does not make lower-resolution or lower-frame-rate recordings native 4K/60. Upscaling can increase the output dimensions, but it cannot restore detail absent from the source. Inspect every file before choosing the output target, and determine whether the video and audio streams are compatible with one another.

- Record each file’s resolution, frame rate, aspect ratio, video codec, audio codec, and whether it has an audio track.
- Decide whether the files already meet the desired 4K/60 target or need scaling, frame-rate conversion, or both.
- Check that your FFmpeg build and available hardware or software encoder can encode the chosen codec and sustain the target in real time. The required capability varies by machine; no particular computer or GPU is established as sufficient.
- Choose SDR or HDR deliberately. The settings below describe SDR; HDR has separate codec and bit-depth requirements.
FFmpeg’s official documentation describes its concat demuxer for joining media files and the -re option for reading an input at its native rate. These are useful building blocks, not a guarantee that arbitrary files will concatenate, loop continuously, or transition without timestamp or parameter problems. Check the documentation for your installed FFmpeg version and test the intended playlist structure with representative files: FFmpeg documentation.

| 4K/2160p at 60 fps video codec | YouTube recommended video bitrate | YouTube minimum video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published encoder specifications, not evidence that a particular computer or connection will reliably sustain the stream. They are video-bitrate figures; include audio when calculating total outbound bitrate. H.264 is a familiar target for a straightforward SDR workflow, but the appropriate choice depends on your FFmpeg build, encoder capability, ingest compatibility, and source media.
Set bitrate, keyframes, audio, and color
- Bitrate mode: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Use a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 for the stated RTMP/RTMPS encoder settings. Its advanced recommendations include 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps for stereo.
- SDR color: Use Rec. 709 and 8-bit color as recommended.
- HDR: Keep an HDR workflow separate from SDR. YouTube lists H.265 for HDR and requires 10-bit depth in its general encoder guidance; confirm the complete current HDR requirements before configuring an HDR stream.
- Protocol: YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP.
See YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the applicable codec, resolution, and color requirements.
Prepare and pace the playlist
Use concat only when the files are compatible
The concat demuxer is a documented way to present a sequence of files as one input, but it is not a universal fix for mixed media. Stream-copy is appropriate only when the files’ streams and parameters are compatible with the output and with each other. Otherwise, re-encoding may be necessary. Differences in codecs, dimensions, frame rates, audio streams, or timestamps can affect concatenation and transitions. Check the installed FFmpeg documentation and test the exact playlist before relying on it.

Read file input in real time
For file input, FFmpeg documents -re as reading at the input’s native rate. Real-time pacing matters when a file is being sent as a live broadcast rather than processed as fast as possible. Placement and behavior depend on the command and input structure, so consult the documentation for your installed version and verify timing in a test. Neither -re nor the concat demuxer by itself establishes a universal method for endlessly looping a mixed playlist.
Build and test your own command privately
The exact command depends on the FFmpeg version, source-file compatibility, scaling or frame-rate conversion needs, encoder, audio handling, playlist layout, and YouTube ingest target. Do not assume that a generic command will produce 4K/60 output, seamless transitions, or a stable loop. Configure those elements for your files and test the complete workflow before the event.
Use a placeholder when referring to a stream key, and substitute your own key privately in your local setup. Do not put a real key in an article, screenshot, or public example.

Plan the upload connection
YouTube says the total stream bitrate must fit within available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% headroom. That means planning for total outbound video and audio bitrate—not relying on download speed or a headline internet-plan speed. For example, a 50 Mbps H.264 video target requires more than 50 Mbps of available upload capacity once audio and YouTube’s recommended margin are included; actual needs depend on your configured total bitrate.
- Measure upload speed from the location and connection you will use to stream.
- Allow the recommended 20% above the total stream bitrate, and account for other traffic sharing the connection.
- Prefer a stable connection and avoid competing uploads or downloads where possible. Ethernet is optional; YouTube’s guidance requires sufficient, reliable upload bandwidth but does not require a particular cable.

- Test representative content: Run a test using files that reflect the playlist’s actual audio, motion, resolution, and frame rate. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Check YouTube’s preview: Confirm that the Live Control Room receives the expected picture, audio, resolution, and frame rate before proceeding.
- Inspect stream health: Watch for dropped frames, audio faults, and stream-health messages. If something is wrong, stop and correct the configuration rather than assuming the audience will receive a clean broadcast.
- Start with time to spare: Set up well in advance, start the encoder before the scheduled event, and check the preview.
- Monitor while live: Keep an eye on audio/video quality and stream health throughout the broadcast.
YouTube’s streaming tips emphasize adequate bandwidth and preparation. A successful preview is a useful check, not a guarantee that a long broadcast will remain trouble-free.

Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Check that the encoder is pointed to the intended YouTube ingest endpoint and that the privately entered stream key is correct. Confirm the selected protocol and codec are supported by your configuration.
- Stream health reports insufficient bandwidth or frames drop: Compare total outbound bitrate with measured upload capacity, preserving YouTube’s recommended 20% margin. Reduce the configured bitrate or resolve network congestion if the connection cannot sustain the target.
- The output is not 4K/60: Check the encoder’s output dimensions and frame rate as well as the Live Control Room preview. Verify scaling and frame-rate conversion settings, and distinguish a 4K/60 output from source footage that was actually recorded at 4K/60.
- Playback fails or breaks at a playlist boundary: Inspect the files’ stream parameters, audio-track presence, and timestamps. Test compatibility with the concat method and FFmpeg version in use; re-encoding may be required for incompatible inputs.
- Audio is missing or incorrect: Confirm that each intended file has an audio track and that the output uses a supported audio codec and appropriate sample rate and bitrate. Test transitions as well as isolated files.
- The encoder cannot sustain real time: The selected resolution, frame rate, codec, or encoding method may exceed the machine’s capability. Confirm actual encoding performance in a test and adjust the target or encoding approach rather than assuming every system can manage 4K/60.
Check rights and YouTube channel rules
Use bhajan recordings and video for which you have the necessary rights or permission to broadcast. Religious or devotional subject matter does not by itself establish permission to use a particular recording, performance, arrangement, or video. Resolve rights questions before streaming and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and channel monetization policies; this technical guide does not establish whether a particular playlist qualifies for monetization or meets reused-content rules.
