YouTube documents encoder setup and automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, but that does not establish that a single live event can run or archive continuously for 24 hours or longer. Test the session plan in Live Control Room before promising uninterrupted availability.
Choose prerecorded ambience or a live camera
A prerecorded feed is usually the simpler option for a continuous ambience channel: prepare the footage and sound, then send the file through an encoder. A live camera shows the waterfall as it is captured, but adds on-site power, connectivity, weather protection, and access considerations. Describe prerecorded footage accurately; do not present a loop as live camera footage.

Clear footage, audio, and location rights
Use footage and field recordings you made yourself, or obtain licenses that expressly cover YouTube livestreaming, worldwide use, and archived replays. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions put responsibility for the necessary rights on the stream provider.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination; even with a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. If you record at an actual Western Ghats waterfall, identify the precise site and ask its land manager or relevant local authority what permission is required. Rules can depend on whether the land is private, community-managed, forest, or protected; YouTube’s platform guidance does not establish permission for any particular site.
Check channel eligibility and create the YouTube stream
- Confirm eligibility. YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16.
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or schedule a stream. Scheduling can create a watch page viewers can share and reminders can point them to.
- Copy the connection details. Get the stream URL and stream key for the event. In the encoder, use YouTube integration if available; otherwise put the URL in the server field and the key in the stream-key field. YouTube explains the workflow in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: it lets an encoder send video to your channel. Do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast. Reset it if it is exposed.
Connect the source and configure the encoder
Set the encoder’s video input to the prepared ambience file or camera, and route the intended audio. For a file loop, play through the join between the end and beginning before launch: abrupt black frames, silence, clicks, or a change in ambience can be distracting even when the encoder connection is healthy. Test with representative motion and sound, as recommended in YouTube’s live-streaming tips.

- Video codec: H.264.
- Rate control: constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Audio: AAC or MP3.
- Resolution and bitrate: choose values supported by the encoder and connection, using YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance for the chosen output.
Leave upload capacity for the stream rather than saturating the connection. YouTube recommends 20% headroom above the total streaming bitrate. Count primary and backup feeds in that total if you send both. A connection that only just matches the configured bitrate can become unstable when other devices or services use bandwidth.

- Start the encoder and wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room.
- Check the preview for picture, motion, and audio; confirm the video is not unintentionally cropped or silent.
- Check the watch page from another device, including a phone, and confirm viewers can access the scheduled or live event.
- Start the event in Live Control Room when the preview and stream health look right.
- Keep an eye on stream health, audio, playback, and encoder status. If you use local recording or need a separate archive, verify that it is being created and can be played.

Plan session transitions for a true 24/7 channel
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not promise that a single event can stay live indefinitely, nor does it specify archive behavior for longer sessions. Before advertising a continuous 24/7 broadcast, verify the current Live Control Room behavior and test how your planned sessions end and restart.
If you build the channel from multiple sessions, schedule and test the handoff, watch for rights checks and connectivity failures, and tell viewers when the stream is unavailable. A 24/7 channel is an operating plan, not just a loop setting: decide who or what checks the feed and how you will restore it after an encoder, connection, or YouTube interruption.

Understand originality and monetization separately from copyright
A license to use footage or music does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s channel monetization policies assess reused content and inauthentic content separately from copyright. The policy describes reused material without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value, and addresses repetitive or mass-produced content across a channel. YouTube’s July 15, 2025 policy note clarified this area and renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content.”
Make your contribution legible to viewers: original location footage and sound, considered editing, contextual information, or other substantive creator work can help show what you made. There is no guaranteed formula for monetization approval.
