You can run a 24/7 spa music channel from a laptop by sending a looping audio-and-visual program to YouTube through a livestream encoder. Create a stream in YouTube Studio, enter its stream URL and key in the encoder, test the signal, then start the broadcast. The laptop, encoder, power and internet connection must remain available for the stream to continue—and every track must be cleared for public livestreaming and any replay you offer.
Before you start: confirm channel access and music rights
Check that YouTube lets the channel livestream
YouTube’s encoder workflow requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check access in YouTube Studio before preparing a long-running playlist. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance.
Clear every recording for the uses you plan
Make a track-by-track rights inventory before building the program. Confirm that permissions cover public livestreaming, the territories where the channel is available, and any retained replay. Music that is purchasable, labeled “royalty free,” or available for personal listening is not automatically cleared for a continuous public broadcast.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can replace the video image, interrupt the stream or terminate it. Even if you have a license, YouTube says to ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Get the rights and allowlisting process in writing; a license alone may not prevent an automated interruption. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Build the laptop-based livestream
1. Prepare a looping audio-and-visual program
Use an encoder to combine your spa music with a suitable visual, such as a still image or slow-moving scene. Configure it to loop or sequence only media you have permission to use. The exact controls depend on the encoder you choose; YouTube’s guidance establishes the encoder workflow and stream settings, not a verified recipe for a particular app.
2. Create the stream in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule a livestream, then copy the server or stream URL and stream key shown for that stream.
- In your encoder’s streaming settings, paste in the URL and key. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe connecting the encoder to the Live Control Room. The available controls can vary by workflow, so follow the prompts shown for your stream.

3. Choose settings your laptop and connection can sustain
YouTube’s current general encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, with a maximum of four seconds. It lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 among supported video codecs, and frame rates up to 60 fps. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions when configuring your encoder.
For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube recommends a video bitrate range of 5–14 Mbps. That is guidance, not a guarantee that your laptop can encode the setting or that your connection can sustain it. Choose resolution, frame rate and bitrate together, then test under conditions similar to the real broadcast. A lower resolution or frame rate may be a reasonable starting point for mostly static ambience, but judge it by test results and the quality you want.

4. Test the feed, then start the broadcast
- Start the encoder and wait for the incoming signal to appear in the Live Control Room preview.
- Check the preview and stream health. Confirm that the audio is present and the visual is correct.
- Start the broadcast in YouTube Studio when the control room indicates that the feed is ready and the selected workflow calls for it.
YouTube recommends testing before going live and making the test resemble the actual audio and video program. Keep the encoder and stream-health view available so you can spot a problem rather than assuming the channel is still live.
Keep the stream running from a laptop
Allow upload headroom
YouTube advises keeping the total stream bitrate below the available upload capacity, with 20% room recommended. Measure upload speed rather than relying on download speed, which is often higher, and account for other people and devices using the network. A wired Ethernet connection can be useful when available; a compatible adapter is optional if the laptop lacks an Ethernet port. It cannot fix an unstable internet service.

Plan for local failures and recovery
A laptop-hosted broadcast depends on the laptop staying powered, cool and responsive, the encoder continuing to run, and the internet connection remaining usable. YouTube does not certify a laptop for continuous operation. Decide who will check the stream and respond if the signal stops; consider how you will restart the encoder and restore the broadcast if the laptop, power or connection fails.

Cloud or server-based playout is another operating model for creators who do not want a home computer to handle continuous playback. It shifts the dependency to the remote service or server, its configuration and its network path; it does not remove the need to verify media rights, protect the stream key or consider monitoring and recovery. There is no neutral uptime comparison established here between a laptop and a cloud option.

Do not assume YouTube will preserve a complete archive of a 24/7 broadcast. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours “may not be captured at all.” It recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. If a replay matters, plan local recording or publish shorter sessions instead of relying on one continuous archive; the recorded music still needs suitable rights. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Troubleshoot common problems
- No preview in Live Control Room: Check that the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key match the stream you created. Confirm that the channel is eligible to livestream.
- Unstable stream or dropped signal: Check upload capacity, competing network use and the encoder’s total bitrate. Lower the stream settings if needed, test again, and leave the recommended upload headroom.
- Copyright warning, image replacement or interruption: Review the matched track and its permissions. Ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting; do not assume a license by itself prevents a live interruption.
- Missing or incomplete replay: A continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use a local recording or separate shorter broadcasts if you need an archive.
