A spare PC can run a continuous YouTube relaxation stream, provided the channel is eligible, the encoder and internet connection stay stable, and you have the rights to every sound and image. Set it up through YouTube Live Control Room, test it before going public, and plan separately for power interruptions and for preserving a replay: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
Decide what “24/7” needs to mean
A continuous broadcast and a complete 24-hour replay are different goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the programme matters, make a local recording or schedule shorter sessions, and check the current archive controls in YouTube Studio. A single uninterrupted day-long stream is not a dependable way to create a complete replay.
Local recording adds disk-space and monitoring needs, while shorter sessions mean restarting or scheduling broadcasts. Choose the workflow that fits whether live availability, an archive, or both matter more.
Check channel eligibility and create the stream
YouTube’s encoder setup requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The controls are in Live Control Room; exact labels can change, so follow the current YouTube Help instructions for encoder streams: Set up your encoder for live streaming.

- Verify eligibility. In YouTube Studio, open the live-streaming workflow and complete any requested verification or activation. Confirm the channel has no applicable live restriction.
- Create an encoder stream. In Live Control Room, choose the encoder/streaming-software workflow, then set the title, description, category, audience setting, and visibility. Use private or unlisted visibility for a test.
- Copy the connection details. YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key. Enter them in the encoder’s streaming destination fields. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in a screen recording. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube’s live controls.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Wait for YouTube to receive the signal, check the preview and stream health, and confirm the intended watch page and privacy setting before making the broadcast public.
Do not share the stream key between unrelated projects or people. If you use a third-party encoder, use its current instructions for where to enter YouTube’s URL and key.
Choose settings the PC and upload connection can sustain
There is no universally best resolution without knowing the spare PC’s encoder capability and the available upload speed. YouTube’s encoder guide lists supported codecs and platform bitrate recommendations; use the row for the resolution and frame rate you intend to send rather than guessing. For a mostly static relaxation scene, a lower resolution or frame rate may be sufficient, but the correct choice is the highest setting that remains stable on your hardware and network.
- Protocol: use RTMPS where the encoder supports it, as YouTube recommends.
- Rate control: configure constant bitrate (CBR), following YouTube’s encoder guidance.
- Keyframes: set a two-second keyframe interval, the interval YouTube recommends in its encoder settings guidance.
- Bitrate: select the current YouTube recommendation for your chosen resolution and frame rate. Your measured upload capacity must exceed the stream’s total bitrate with headroom; other devices and changing network conditions can reduce what is available to the PC.
- Audio: use an audio format and bitrate supported by both the encoder and YouTube’s current guidance. Check that quiet ambience remains audible without clipping or unwanted background noise.
Run an unlisted or private test using the actual video, audio, and settings you plan to stream. Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators, the encoder’s dropped-frame and load readings, audio levels, and playback on another device. Test during realistic household network use, not only when the connection is otherwise idle. YouTube’s current guidance is at Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Keep the spare PC running and plan for interruptions
Configure the computer not to sleep or hibernate during the intended broadcast. If your encoder supports launching after a reboot or restarting a failed stream, configure and test that behavior before relying on it. Keep an eye on temperatures, encoder health, storage if recording locally, and upload reliability.

A stable connection matters more than the nominal speed shown by a one-time test. Check for ISP data limits and whether the router or other household use competes for upload capacity.
A UPS for the PC and router is optional protection against brief power interruptions, not a guarantee of continuous service. Size it for the combined load and the runtime you need; it cannot resolve an ISP outage, and it only helps the network stay available if the upstream service remains active.

Estimate electricity cost using your own setup in India
There is no defensible all-India monthly cost without the PC’s actual power draw, the state and utility, and the applicable tariff category and charges. Measure the computer’s real consumption while streaming, then apply the tariff and other charges shown on your electricity bill or utility schedule. The Central Electricity Authority publishes state-level tariff and duty material: Tariff and duty.
Electricity supply and distribution are handled by state governments and distribution utilities. The Ministry of Power describes electricity as a concurrent subject and places consumer supply and distribution within the purview of the respective state government or utility; that national framework is not a promise of outage-free power at any particular home. Use original or properly licensed music, ambience, recordings, footage, animation, and artwork. YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for rights needed for the live content, including applicable music licensing rights. Permission to use a track should cover the uses you intend, which may include livestreaming and an archived replay. Attribution alone does not grant those rights. Review YouTube’s Terms of Service and the licence terms for each asset.

Rights clearance and monetization eligibility are separate questions. YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams, and repetitive or mass-produced material may be considered inauthentic; reused content is reviewed separately. A loop, even one you are licensed to use, is not automatically eligible for monetization. Check the current YouTube channel monetization policies; do not assume that permission guarantees acceptance into the YouTube Partner Program or earnings.

- YouTube does not receive a signal: recheck that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current key, that the stream is created in Live Control Room, and that the encoder is actually sending. Reset an exposed or possibly outdated key.
- Preview is unstable or dropped frames rise: lower the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate to a setting the PC and measured upload can sustain. Pause competing uploads and repeat the test under typical network conditions.
- Video stutters while encoder load is high: reduce the output workload, check temperatures and hardware-encoder settings supported by your PC, and test again. Do not infer that a PC can encode a given quality from its age or advertised specs alone.
- Stream stops after a power or software restart: check sleep settings, startup behavior, encoder recovery settings, and the router connection. A UPS can bridge only interruptions within its usable runtime.
- No complete replay appears: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use a local recording or shorter sessions if the replay is important, and verify current archive behavior in YouTube Studio.
- Audio or visuals are muted, blocked, or claimed: check YouTube’s notice and the asset’s licence. Replace or remove material for which you cannot establish the necessary rights; credit by itself is not a fix.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a spare laptop instead of a desktop PC?
Yes, if it can encode your chosen stream settings and remain powered and cool during the broadcast. Test it under the conditions you plan to use.
Does a UPS keep the YouTube stream live during an internet outage?
No. It can supply temporary power to connected equipment, but it does not restore an unavailable ISP connection.
