You can stream original fairy tales around the clock from a Mac mini by using OBS Studio as a local encoder: enable YouTube Live on your channel, create a stream in YouTube Studio, loop a video or playlist in OBS, and send the feed to YouTube with a stream key. Test the complete setup before making it public. Looping keeps the stories playing inside OBS; it does not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 connection.
Before you set up the stream
- Live access: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your launch. YouTube’s live-streaming access guidance explains the requirements.
- A Mac mini that can handle your stream: OBS lists Intel or Apple Silicon, an OpenGL 3.3-compatible GPU, and macOS 11 or later as baseline requirements. Meeting them does not guarantee good performance for a particular resolution, frame rate, scene, or playlist. Check the OBS system requirements, then test the actual Mac mini you plan to use.
- Local media and rights: Prepare the fairy tale video files, including narration, images, and music. Use material you created or have permission to use. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance says creators must ensure audio and video do not infringe others’ rights.
- A dependable upload connection and power: Streaming uses upload bandwidth continuously. Measure upload performance and leave headroom; a fast download result alone does not show that the connection can sustain a live feed.

Install OBS on the Mac mini and create a scene
Download OBS from the official OBS download page and follow the macOS installer instructions in the OBS Mac installation guide. Open OBS and create a scene for the stream. OBS’s Quick Start Guide covers adding sources and checking the preview.

Add one story video or a playlist
For a single file, add a Media Source to the scene, choose the local video, and enable Loop in that source’s properties. OBS documents this option in its Media Sources guide.

For multiple files, add a VLC Video source and create the playlist there. Install VLC on macOS first; the VLC source depends on it. Check that Loop Playlist is enabled, then preview the transition between stories. OBS notes that looping is enabled by default for this source, but verify the setting in your own scene.

Create the YouTube stream and protect the key
In YouTube Studio, open Go Live to reach Live Control Room, then create or schedule a stream. Set its title, description, audience setting, and visibility, and obtain the stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance describes the key and connection process. Treat the key like a password: it tells YouTube where to accept your feed, so do not include it in screenshots, public posts, or shared OBS profiles.

Connect OBS and choose settings the connection can sustain
In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key. Use an encoder configuration supported by your chosen connection method. YouTube’s general encoder guidance recommends H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; its supported protocols and codec choices vary by configuration. RTMPS encrypts the connection. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings guidance for current resolution and frame-rate bitrate recommendations rather than assuming one bitrate suits every stream.

Test privately before publishing
Set visibility to private or unlisted for a test, start streaming from OBS, and inspect the Live Control Room preview and stream health. Confirm the picture, narration and music levels, and playlist order; let playback reach a loop point so you can check that it repeats as intended. YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion similar to the planned stream. Review its streaming tips and encoder settings.

Start the public broadcast and keep watch
Once the test is satisfactory, set the intended visibility and start the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Check the stream and Mac periodically. Power loss, internet disruption, software problems, or a YouTube-side interruption can stop delivery; a looping OBS source does not itself reconnect the broadcast or prove it will run unattended indefinitely.

Keep the Mac mini and connection ready
Use a reliable network and check upload speed under the conditions in which the Mac will stream. Ethernet is one possible way to connect, but it cannot prevent an outage or guarantee uninterrupted delivery. YouTube’s guidance is to have enough outbound capacity for the stream bitrate and roughly 20% additional headroom.
Plan for power and software interruptions, and check that the Mac remains able to run OBS and the media source. The OBS baseline requirements do not establish how a particular Mac mini will perform, and the available guidance does not verify a universal macOS sleep-prevention setting or terminal command for every Mac mini. Test your own machine and power configuration rather than treating display sleep settings as proof that the system will stay awake.

What looping does—and does not—do
OBS can repeat a single local file or a VLC playlist, but that is playback behavior inside the encoder. It is separate from whether OBS can keep sending the feed and whether YouTube continues receiving it. A network drop, a Mac shutdown, or an encoder failure may interrupt the broadcast; do not assume that the source’s loop setting will restart the YouTube stream. YouTube recommends checking stream health and testing with representative content, but its guidance does not promise unattended 24/7 uptime for a specific Mac mini and network.
