How to Stream a 24/7 Lo-Fi Music Playlist on YouTube Without Gaps

To run a 24/7 lo-fi playlist on YouTube, send a continuous audio-and-visual feed from an encoder to YouTube Live, then monitor the stream and prepare a recovery path. You can reduce interruptions, but no setup can guarantee zero gaps: your stream depends on the encoder, power, internet connection, and YouTube. Clear the music rights before you start; YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches and may interrupt or terminate a stream.

Before you build the stream: confirm access and music rights

Enable live streaming early

YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so check access in YouTube Studio well before launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.

Use music you are authorized to stream

A track being available online, credited in your description, or included in a playlist does not establish that you have permission to broadcast it. YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights. Keep license or permission records for every track and confirm that the permission covers livestreaming and the territories where viewers may watch.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A placeholder may replace the stream, and an unresolved match can lead to interruption or termination. Even if you have a license, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and ask the rights owner about allowlisting before launch.

#1 Best Overall

Choose how to keep the playlist running

StreamNeo: run the playlist from the cloud

StreamNeo is #1 for a hands-off, cloud-based option: it keeps a YouTube stream running from uploaded videos, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. Upload a recording or make a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and streams to YouTube only.

All plans include the same features; only the billing period changes. The first day is free with no card, once per account. After that, the listed options are Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · Monthly $9.99 per month · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year. India-based customers can pay by UPI or card; card checkout is available worldwide. Contact support about five or more slots. See StreamNeo pricing.

Run your own encoder

You can stream from software such as OBS or from a hardware encoder. YouTube also identifies Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams. These are options, not guarantees of uptime; compare who operates and monitors the encoder, dependence on local power and internet, recovery options, media controls, and current terms. YouTube’s encoder overview is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Set up a local encoder and start the stream

  1. Prepare the media. Build a playlist of cleared tracks and a visual feed suitable for continuous playback. Check that the playlist repeats as intended, audio plays through the whole sequence, and the encoder does not stop when the final item ends.
  2. Create the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream into the matching fields in your encoder. YouTube’s interface may change; follow the current labels in Live Control Room.
  3. Protect the stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to send video to your stream. Use a dedicated key where the interface offers that choice.
  4. Set the encoder output. Choose an ingest protocol and output settings accepted by the current Live Control Room instructions. Resolution and bitrate depend on your target output and encoder; there is no single bitrate established here as correct for every lo-fi stream. Avoid pushing a bitrate your connection cannot sustain.
  5. Check upload capacity. YouTube recommends about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate. This is a recommendation, not a guarantee against ISP or platform failures. A wired connection can reduce dependence on Wi-Fi, but it cannot prevent power loss or an internet-service outage.
  6. Test before the public launch. Start the encoder in advance, inspect the Live Control Room preview, and confirm that the audio, visual loop, and playlist transition correctly. Open the watch page on a phone and another device. Check that any local recording is being written and its file size is increasing.
  7. Go live and monitor. Once the preview and watch page look and sound right, start the broadcast from Live Control Room if prompted. Keep a plan for checking the stream and responding to alerts; an always-on broadcast still needs operational oversight.

YouTube recommends setting up the encoder ahead of time and testing failover. For example, stop the primary encoder or disconnect its Ethernet during a controlled test and confirm that the player moves to the backup. Do this before launch, not during a broadcast you need to keep uninterrupted. See YouTube’s streaming tips and live streaming tips.

Protocol, settings, and archives

Follow the settings for your chosen ingest protocol

Use the settings shown for the protocol selected in Live Control Room. YouTube’s HLS-specific instructions require segment durations of one to four seconds, TS segment format, HTTPS POST/PUT, and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments. HLS has higher latency than RTMP. These requirements apply to HLS; they are not universal settings for RTMP. Consult YouTube’s HLS setup instructions.

Do not assume a full 24-hour archive

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that one continuous 24/7 stream will be archived in full. Verify current archive behavior for your stream and make an independent recording and storage plan if you need a complete copy. YouTube’s encoder guidance and live streaming tips cover archiving and checks.

Troubleshoot interruptions and common failures

  • Live streaming is unavailable: Check channel verification and restrictions, then confirm live access in YouTube Studio. If this is the channel’s first activation, allow up to 24 hours.
  • The encoder connects but the preview is blank or silent: Confirm the selected media source, playlist playback, audio routing, and the correct server URL and stream key. Restart the encoder only after checking whether doing so will end or disrupt the active broadcast.
  • The stream repeatedly disconnects: Compare the total stream bitrate with available upload capacity and leave the headroom YouTube recommends. Check local network stability and power, then test a backup encoder or connection. A single encoder and connection cannot provide a gap-proof path.
  • The stream is interrupted by a copyright notice: Review the notice and remove or replace the matched material if necessary. Confirm that your license covers live use and ask the rights owner whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID.
  • The recording or archive is missing or incomplete: Check local recording settings and storage while streaming, including whether the file is growing. Do not rely on YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive guidance as proof that a 24-hour broadcast will be saved in full.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, upload your lo-fi recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; your uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. For Indian creators, UPI is available. This removes the need to keep your own computer and home connection running, but it does not grant music rights: use only music you are authorized to broadcast. Start your free StreamNeo day.
