You can run a 24/7 Indian music YouTube channel from Google Cloud by running a software encoder on a cloud computer and sending its output to YouTube with the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is a separate option for producing HLS or DASH output; its documented workflow does not publish directly to YouTube. Before you start, settle the music rights and plan for encoder recovery, YouTube’s archive limits, and any service time limits.
Choose the architecture that matches your destination
| Option | What it sends or produces | Operational responsibility | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Software encoder on Google Cloud | A live feed sent directly to YouTube using the server URL and stream key from Live Control Room. | You manage the encoder process, cloud computer, connection, monitoring, and recovery. | A continuous YouTube broadcast when YouTube itself is the destination. |
| Google Cloud Live Stream API | Accepts RTMP or SRT input, transcodes it, and stores HLS or DASH output in Cloud Storage. | You configure and operate the managed channel and its lifecycle; Google provisions the underlying streaming infrastructure. | HLS/DASH delivery, multiple output renditions, a backup input, or a workflow built around Cloud Storage. A separate delivery design is needed to get that output to YouTube. |
These are different workflows, not two names for the same YouTube connection. For a straightforward YouTube channel, use the direct encoder path. Choose the Live Stream API when its documented outputs and managed transcoding match a broader media-delivery design.

Set up a direct encoder from Google Cloud to YouTube
- Clear the music rights first. Confirm the permissions needed for the specific compositions and recordings, livestream use, intended territories, and any archive or monetization plans. See the rights section before scheduling a broadcast.
- Enable live streaming on the channel. Open YouTube Studio and follow its live-stream setup flow. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the intended launch time.
- Create or select a stream in Live Control Room. Copy the stream server URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: store it as a secret in your deployment, do not publish it in scripts or logs, and reset it in YouTube Studio if it is exposed.
- Prepare a cloud computer and encoder. Choose a Google Cloud compute environment capable of running your selected software encoder continuously. The needed size depends on the resolution, frame rate, codec, feed format, and redundancy you choose; there is no single instance size established for every channel.
- Configure the encoder’s output for YouTube. Enter the server URL and stream key in the encoder’s streaming destination. Select encoding settings that YouTube currently accepts for the chosen resolution, frame rate, codec, and audio configuration. Google’s Live Stream API bitrate recommendations apply to that API and depend on those inputs; do not treat them as universal settings for a direct encoder-to-YouTube stream.
- Start the encoder and verify the feed. Check the preview and live status in Live Control Room. Confirm that video and audio are present and that the intended playlist or recording is playing before treating the channel as live.
- Make the process recoverable. Run the encoder under a process manager or equivalent service supervision, keep logs, and monitor both the compute instance and YouTube’s live status. Plan how to restart after an encoder crash, host restart, network failure, or destination disconnect. This is operational design guidance; the appropriate restart method depends on your chosen encoder and deployment.
Video, audio, and keyframe settings
There is no single bitrate or encoder preset that fits every Indian music channel. Set resolution, frame rate, video codec, bitrate, keyframe interval, audio codec, and audio channel configuration for the actual source and the current YouTube encoder guidance. Avoid upscaling low-resolution source material solely to label the stream as higher quality. Test the complete feed, including audio levels and any visual slate, in Live Control Room before launching a long session. The available material does not establish a universal numerical bitrate or keyframe value, so use the current platform guidance for your selected format rather than guessing.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you would rather not maintain an encoder on a Google Cloud computer, StreamNeo is a separate cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded video rather than broadcasting a live camera feed.

Where Google Cloud’s Live Stream API fits
The Live Stream API is a managed ingest and transcoding service, not a direct substitute for entering YouTube’s stream key in an encoder. It accepts an RTMP or SRT input, transcodes it into HLS or DASH renditions, and writes the output to Cloud Storage. Google documents automatic infrastructure provisioning, a backup input option, and integration with Cloud Storage and other Google Cloud services.

Plan the API channel lifecycle
Start the channel before sending input; the API quickstart includes Mumbai (asia-south1) among supported regions. Pick a region based on service availability, latency, compliance, and pricing—not proximity alone. Google recommends SRT over RTMP when the encoder supports it, citing packet-loss recovery, forward error correction, support for multiple audio elementary streams, and higher bandwidth.

Plan for archives separately from the live broadcast
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Do not rely on one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast to produce a complete VOD archive. If preserving the music stream matters, arrange separate recordings or shorter planned sessions and verify YouTube’s current archive behavior before launch. Cloud Storage output from the Live Stream API is a distinct output workflow; it does not by itself establish that YouTube will receive or archive the stream.
Clear music rights and Content ID handling
“Indian music” does not tell you who owns the rights or whether a particular use is covered. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. A playlist being publicly available, or a recording being old, does not establish that you have permission to rebroadcast it.

- Confirm permission for each relevant catalog and use, including livestreaming, the intended territories, sound recordings, compositions, performance or publishing rights, archives, and monetization if planned.
- Ask the relevant rights holder how the music will be treated by Content ID and request that the channel be added to its Content ID allowlist where applicable. YouTube warns that even licensed music can be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted.
- Keep records of the rights and permissions that apply to each recording. A license for one catalog or use does not automatically establish coverage for another.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match can cause a placeholder to replace the stream; unresolved material can lead to interruption or termination. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also terminate a stream. These practical checks are not legal advice and cannot guarantee uninterrupted playback.

Understand the costs before choosing a design
The direct encoder route has Google Cloud compute and network costs, plus any redundancy or recording resources you choose. The Live Stream API route can involve API, Cloud Storage, and delivery costs. The amount depends on the workload—particularly resolution, frame rate, codec, feed format, region, redundancy, and output needs—so an estimate requires those choices and a current pricing calculation. No fixed monthly cost applies to every 24/7 music channel.

Troubleshoot common interruptions
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Live streaming is unavailable when you are ready to start. | First-time channel activation may still be pending. | Enable live streaming in advance; YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. |
| YouTube shows no incoming feed. | Encoder output configuration, stopped process, or connection failure. | Check that the encoder is running, the server URL and key are correct, and the process logs show a successful connection; verify status in Live Control Room. |
| The stream starts and then gets replaced or interrupted. | Third-party content match, rights issue, or enforcement action. | Review YouTube notifications and the applicable rights and Content ID arrangements. Contact the rights holder about allowlisting where appropriate. |
| The broadcast stops after running continuously. | Encoder, host, or network failure; for the Live Stream API, active-session duration. | Check service and encoder logs, restore the input, and verify the live state. API deployments need a planned restart around the documented session limit. |
| The live stream exists but its full recording is missing. | The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s archive capture threshold. | Keep a separate recording or plan shorter sessions if a complete archive is required. |
Monetization is conditional
YouTube says eligible YouTube Partner Program creators can monetize live streams. Its live settings documentation names ads and Super Chat, with channel memberships available to some channels. Eligibility and feature availability depend on the channel, while music rights and Content ID policies can constrain whether monetization applies. Running a continuous stream alone does not establish eligibility or guarantee revenue.
