You can run a looping bhajan broadcast from a Mac with OBS Studio: use a looping Media Source for one file, or a looping VLC Video Source for a playlist. The Mac, OBS, internet connection and power must remain available for the stream to continue, so test the full setup before going public. If you prefer not to leave a computer running, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube.
Choose the simplest setup for your playlist
- One audio or video file: Add it to OBS as a Media Source and enable Loop. This is the simplest option for a single recording.
- Several files: Use OBS’s VLC Video Source to make a playlist and enable looping. VLC must be installed on the Mac.
OBS Media Source on macOS supports common formats including MP4, MOV, MP3, AAC and WAV. Choose files you have the right to rebroadcast; a file playing successfully in OBS does not establish that you have the necessary music rights.

Check your Mac and YouTube channel first
Mac compatibility
OBS lists Intel and Apple Silicon processors and macOS 11 or later in its system requirements. If your Mac runs an older macOS version, check OBS’s compatibility page for an appropriate older build before installing. The official installation guide describes downloading the macOS disk image and moving OBS into Applications.
YouTube eligibility and first-time setup
Your channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube says initial live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable and test live streaming well ahead of your planned start—not on broadcast day.

Set up the looping source in OBS
For one file: Media Source
- Open OBS and create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- In Sources, select + and add a Media Source.
- Choose the local audio or video file you want to play.
- Enable Loop in the source properties. Confirm that the file plays in the OBS preview and repeats when it reaches the end.
For multiple files: VLC Video Source
- Install VLC on the Mac if it is not already installed.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video Source to the scene.
- Add the files to its playlist and enable playlist looping.
- Check playback and transitions in the preview. Confirm that every playlist file is available locally and plays as expected.
A static visual with one looping source keeps the scene simple. If you use a visual, make sure it is yours or that you have permission to use it in the live stream.
Configure OBS for YouTube
Create the encoder stream and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s stream settings.
- Treat the stream key like a password. It is the credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Do not publish or share it.
- In OBS, configure the encoder and start streaming. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health; for a scheduled workflow, start the event from YouTube when ready.
Video and audio settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. Choose a resolution and bitrate that both the Mac and its upload connection can sustain. Check your available upload bitrate and test the stream rather than assuming that a setting is stable for a continuous broadcast. The appropriate resolution and bitrate depend on your Mac, source material and network; the cited guidance does not prescribe one universal setting for every setup.

Test and monitor before leaving it on
- Run a test stream before making the broadcast public. Check the YouTube preview and stream-health status.
- Listen for clean, continuous audio and check that the visual is correct and the source loops as intended.
- Confirm that the Mac stays awake, remains connected to the internet and has reliable power for the period you expect to stream.
- Monitor the stream rather than treating a successful start as proof it will run uninterrupted. YouTube’s guidance recommends ongoing monitoring; it does not guarantee that a Mac-based stream will stay live 24/7.
Clear the music rights before broadcasting
Religious subject matter, a song’s age, or its availability online does not by itself make a recording free to rebroadcast. You are responsible for having the necessary rights for live content, including music. Check rights for the particular recording and the relevant composition or publishing interests with the rights holder or qualified counsel.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may replace the image with a placeholder; if identified content continues, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. If you have a licence for third-party content, YouTube says the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid interruption during the live stream. Do not assume that a licence alone prevents an automated interruption.

Plan for recordings separately from the live broadcast
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast exceeds that stated duration, so do not rely on YouTube to preserve a complete replay or use its archive as your only copy. If you need an archive, plan local recording and enough storage for the recording duration; an external SSD is an optional storage route, not a YouTube requirement. OBS recommends checking that a local archive file is growing during a stream.
Troubleshooting common setup problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a YouTube encoder stream | The channel may not be verified, may have a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, or first-time enablement may still be processing. | Check channel eligibility in YouTube Studio and enable live streaming in advance; first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. |
| YouTube receives no feed from OBS | The stream URL or key may be missing, incorrect or associated with a different stream. | Compare the values in OBS with the encoder stream in YouTube Studio. Keep the key private and use the stream’s preview to confirm reception. |
| The source stops instead of repeating | Loop may not be enabled, or the source type may not match your need. | For one file, inspect the Media Source’s Loop setting. For multiple files, use VLC Video Source, ensure VLC is installed and enable playlist looping. |
| The stream preview is unstable | The chosen bitrate or resolution may exceed what the Mac or upload connection can sustain. | Check upload capacity, lower the streaming demand as needed, and test again while watching stream health. Use YouTube’s recommended encoder settings as a baseline. |
| The stream shows a placeholder or is interrupted | YouTube may have detected third-party content. | Confirm that you hold the necessary rights. If you have licensed third-party material, ask the rights owner whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist. |
| The full 24-hour replay is missing | YouTube may not capture streams longer than 12 hours. | Use a separately planned local recording if a complete archive matters, and monitor that the local file is being written. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want your Mac and home connection to stay on, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps the video looping from the cloud, not from a camera.
