You can broadcast recorded gaming highlights as a YouTube live stream by feeding a looping playlist into an encoder or hosted streaming service, then connecting that feed to a YouTube encoder stream. Before running it unattended, check channel eligibility and content rights, test the feed in Live Control Room, and arrange your own archive and recovery plan.
Choose where the playlist will run
The key decision is whether a computer at your location or a hosted service will keep the prerecorded feed running. A local encoder offers control over scenes and overlays, but the computer and internet connection must remain available. A hosted service can run without a local computer, but its plan limits, playlist controls, schedule duration, storage sources, monitoring, and recovery behavior vary. No option is automatically reliable: test the complete feed and confirm how it recovers if the connection to YouTube stops.

For the local method, use an encoder that can play or receive a continuous playlist and send it as a YouTube live stream. YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover encoder use, gameplay streams, testing, and monitoring. A playlist’s repeat and transition controls depend on the encoder or playlist tool; test them rather than assuming a particular looping feature.

Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube’s current Help guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The stream must also follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance before scheduling the broadcast.

Build a coherent highlights feed
Arrange your recordings into a playlist or other continuous feed that your encoder or service can send to YouTube. Treat it as programming, not merely a pile of clips: select highlights, decide their order, and use context, commentary, analysis, or storytelling where appropriate. Test transitions, audio levels, and the end-of-playlist behavior before relying on a loop for a long run.
Check rights before you schedule
You need the necessary rights to use every gameplay recording, soundtrack, and third-party clip in the broadcast. Game publishers set their own terms; owning a game or recording your play does not by itself establish commercial-use rights. YouTube says extended footage that simply shows gameplay may not be accepted for monetization, while tightly related instructional commentary may qualify. Read YouTube’s guidance on video game and software content and the applicable publisher terms.

Copyright and monetization are separate checks. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can lead to a placeholder, interruption, or termination. Even licensed content can be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel in Content ID. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
Separately, YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and can affect a whole channel. Repetitive or mass-produced material may be considered inauthentic, and reused-content review is distinct from copyright review: permission to use a clip does not necessarily mean the channel adds enough original value to qualify for monetization. Make the selection and presentation meaningfully your own; that lowers policy risk but does not guarantee approval. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Set up and start the YouTube broadcast
- Create or schedule an encoder stream. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Enter the title, description, category, visibility, and other metadata that fit the channel and broadcast. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain the stream configuration.
- Copy the stream URL and key into the encoder. Use the URL and key shown for that YouTube stream. The key is sensitive: YouTube describes it as the stream’s password and address. Do not publish or share it; if it is compromised, reset it in YouTube’s live-stream settings. See YouTube’s stream-settings guidance.
- Start the playlist feed and check the preview. Start the encoder or hosted feed, then confirm that the video and audio appear in Live Control Room before going live. Check the watch page from a viewer’s perspective and confirm the correct broadcast is being sent.
- Monitor the running stream. Watch YouTube’s stream-quality indicators and verify that the playlist continues through transitions. Decide who or what will notice a stopped feed and how it will be restarted; do not assume a particular encoder or hosted provider will recover automatically.
Use encoder settings that suit the actual feed
There is no single bitrate or resolution that fits every recording, encoder, and upload connection. Use the current settings guidance in YouTube’s encoder setup and live-streaming tips, and check the encoder’s output against your source files and available upload capacity. The important practical test is whether the stream reaches Live Control Room cleanly and remains stable while the playlist runs. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish a universal setting for every gaming highlights setup.

Plan for archives and interruptions
Keep a separate recording if the footage matters
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A 24/7 broadcast is longer than that window, so do not rely on YouTube to preserve it as one uninterrupted archive. YouTube recommends monitoring stream quality and checking the growing local archive file. Where practical, record independently and verify that the recording is growing and intact. Know what to check when the feed stops
- No preview in Live Control Room: Confirm the encoder is running, the correct stream URL and key are configured, and the playlist is actually playing. Recheck the selected broadcast if you have more than one scheduled stream.
- Preview appears, but video or audio is wrong: Check the playlist item, transitions, and audio in the source or encoder. Test the same segment before restarting a long broadcast.
- The feed drops or becomes unstable: Check the encoder’s connection and YouTube’s stream-quality indicators. Restart the feed if needed, then confirm the preview returns. Build a recovery plan that does not depend on an unverified automatic-restart feature.
- A stream is interrupted for a content match: Review the matched clip, music, or other material and resolve the rights issue. If you have a license, check whether the rights holder needs to allowlist your channel in Content ID.
- The stream runs but monetization is unavailable: Recheck publisher commercial-use terms and the channel’s originality. Copyright permission does not settle YouTube’s separate reused-content or inauthentic-content review.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: A broadcast exceeding 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use and inspect an independent recording if an archive is important.
