You can stream a prepared fan-noise video to YouTube Live using an encoder, but YouTube’s published guidance does not guarantee that one live session can run uninterrupted indefinitely. For a 24/7 channel, plan for stream monitoring and recovery as well as the video loop itself. You’ll need a verified, eligible channel, a rights-cleared audio/video loop, an encoder, and a reliable way to keep the feed running.
Before you start: check channel eligibility
- Your channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube also says streamers must be at least 16. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and getting started with live streaming.
- If this is your first time enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Enable it ahead of your planned start.
- Use an encoder workflow for a prepared fan-noise video and audio feed. YouTube also supports webcam and mobile workflows, but an encoder is the relevant option for sending an assembled loop.
Prepare a fan-noise loop you have the right to use
Make or assemble the fan-noise audio and accompanying visual from material you own or are licensed to use for both live streaming and archiving. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. If matched material remains in the stream, YouTube may replace the feed with a placeholder or interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if you have a license, a rights holder may need to allowlist your channel to prevent an interruption. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and live-stream terms explain these responsibilities.

YouTube’s guidance does not prescribe a sleep-specific sound spectrum, loudness, equalization, video duration, or looping technique. Set those according to your intended listening experience, then test the actual audio and visual feed before making it public. Do not assume that a fan recording, sound effect, or background visual is free to use just because it is available online.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCreate the YouTube stream and connect your encoder
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. YouTube’s encoder live-streaming guide describes this workflow.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream settings into your encoder. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. YouTube describes stream keys as the stream’s “password and address” in Manage live stream settings. Keep it private, and reset it if you believe it has been exposed.
- Configure the encoder to send the prepared video and audio to YouTube. YouTube’s general encoder guidance supports AAC or MP3 audio and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Choose a stream quality that your upload connection can sustain reliably; a higher setting is not useful if the connection cannot maintain it.
- Start the encoder and wait for the feed to appear in Live Control Room. Check the preview and stream-health indicators before selecting the option to go live.
Test the full experience, then monitor it
Run a test with the actual fan-noise audio and representative video motion, not just a blank or silent placeholder. YouTube recommends a test live stream to get comfortable with the steps and advises testing with audio and video similar to the real event. Confirm that playback works on the devices your audience is likely to use, and listen for clipping, silence, unexpected volume changes, or interruptions. Watch stream health and respond to alerts.

For later checks, keep access to Live Control Room and the encoder available. When ending an event, stop the encoder and confirm the live session has ended in Studio.
Plan for continuity: 24/7 is not a guaranteed single session
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not establish that one session can stay live indefinitely or transition without interruption, and it does not specify an optimal restart schedule for a 24/7 channel. Treat continuous operation as a reliability and session-management challenge: decide how you will notice a dropped feed, restart or recover it, and communicate any planned interruption to viewers. Avoid promising uninterrupted availability based solely on YouTube’s standard setup instructions.
