You can run a fireplace ambience stream on YouTube by sending a prepared fireplace video and crackling-audio track through a live-stream encoder. What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. Check current eligibility in YouTube Help: Live streaming on YouTube.
- A video of a fireplace and a crackling-fire audio track, ideally combined into one finished video file. Use original material or assets licensed for YouTube Live and any replay you intend to keep.
- An encoder: software running on a computer or a hardware encoder. A dedicated hardware unit is optional; YouTube says you do not need expensive equipment to get started.
- A stable way to keep the encoder operating and a plan to check stream health. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain setup but do not guarantee nonstop transmission.

“No music” does not mean “no copyright risk.” The fireplace footage and crackling recording also need to be yours or covered by permission broad enough for the live broadcast and any archived replay. Keep records of licenses and permissions.

Make the sound genuinely music-free
Put the crackling recording on the video’s audio track and remove music, intros, or other sounds if you want a sound-only fireplace ambience. Listen through the complete file before streaming, including its beginning and end, to catch unexpected music, silence, or abrupt transitions. Confirm that the audio is audible and not distorted in the encoder preview.

Choose a streaming method
Software encoder on a computer
This route suits creators who already have a capable computer and are comfortable setting up streaming software. The computer and encoder must remain operating for the stream to continue; a sleep setting, restart, power loss, or network outage can interrupt it.
Hardware encoder
A hardware encoder can send the feed without using a general-purpose computer as the encoder, but it is an additional device to configure and keep powered. YouTube supports hardware encoders and provides a verified encoder list; the official guidance does not establish one model as best. Set up the YouTube Live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create a new stream or select an existing one. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions if the labels or layout differ.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. Enter both in the encoder’s YouTube destination or server settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Load the finished fireplace video. Configure the encoder to send the prepared video and its crackling audio continuously. Exact controls depend on the encoder you choose; YouTube’s setup guide covers connecting an encoder, not a universal set of software-specific settings.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before going live. Confirm that the fireplace image is present and the crackling audio is audible. Resolve any encoder or stream-health warnings before starting.
- Start the stream from the encoder and monitor YouTube Studio. Check stream health and audio/video quality after the stream begins, then keep a way to notice interruptions and respond. Follow YouTube’s on-screen prompts if it reports a problem.
Keep a 24/7 stream running—and plan for interruptions
A 24/7 stream is a continuous operating task, not a setting that guarantees uninterrupted service. With a DIY setup, keep the computer or encoder powered, prevent the computer from sleeping, and maintain a reliable network connection. Monitor YouTube Studio for stream-health notices and check that the audio and video remain present. Have a restart plan for encoder, power, network, or YouTube-side interruptions.

What happens to the replay
YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. They do not establish that a 24-hour session will be saved as one complete replay. If retaining a full recording matters, make a separate recording where your setup and rights permit it, and do not rely on automatic archiving for a full-day session. The encoder will not connect
- Recheck that you copied the current stream URL and key into the correct encoder fields.
- If the key may have been exposed or changed, reset it in YouTube Studio and replace the saved value in the encoder.
- Confirm live streaming is enabled for the channel and check Studio for any restrictions or setup prompts.
The picture appears but there is no crackling sound
- Check that the finished video actually contains an audio track and that the encoder is sending it.
- Listen to the Studio preview and check the encoder’s audio input or track selection; correct the source and test again before leaving the stream unattended.
The stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder
- Check Studio for a copyright notice or other stream warning. Remove or replace flagged material if you do not have the necessary rights.
- If the material is licensed, ask the owner whether your channel can be allowlisted; permission alone may not prevent automated interruption.
- For a connection or encoder failure, check the encoder and network, then restart the stream using Studio’s current prompts.
The stream stops when nobody is watching the computer
Check for sleep, shutdown, software updates, power loss, or network interruption. A local encoder depends on its host device staying operational; if that is not practical for your setup, use a cloud service that loops uploaded video.
