You can keep a cave ambience video with dripping-water audio live on YouTube by sending a loop from an encoder to YouTube Live. For a do-it-yourself setup, the encoder runs on your computer and depends on your internet connection; a cloud service can run the loop instead. The key limitation is archiving: YouTube warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so do not count on a complete YouTube replay of a continuous 24/7 broadcast.
Before you start: check eligibility and rights
- Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of your planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips and encoder setup guidance.
- Use cave footage and dripping-water audio that you own or have licensed for livestream use in the relevant territories. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put responsibility for securing necessary rights on the creator.
- Keep the original video and audio files. They are useful if you need to rebuild the loop, troubleshoot the encoder, or preserve a recording independently of YouTube.
Set up a local encoder for a continuous stream
YouTube accepts software and hardware encoders. In this do-it-yourself workflow, the encoder sends your video to YouTube over your internet connection. YouTube’s general streaming guidance says expensive equipment is not required, but it does not specify a computer configuration for this particular looping use case. Choose an encoder capable of repeatedly playing your prepared video, and test it with your actual setup rather than relying on an assumed hardware minimum.

- Prepare the cave video and audio. Make a seamless loop if the scene is intended to repeat, and check that the water sound continues at the right level without abrupt gaps or jumps. Confirm that the file plays correctly in your chosen encoder and retain a separate copy.
- Create the YouTube broadcast. Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream, then locate its stream URL (server URL) and stream key. YouTube’s encoder instructions describe this workflow; labels can vary with the Live Control Room interface.
- Connect the encoder. Paste the stream URL and key into the corresponding server and key fields in your encoder. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in screenshots.
- Set a sustainable upload rate. Check the encoder’s total outgoing bitrate against the real upload capacity of the connection you will use. YouTube recommends keeping 20% bandwidth headroom and notes that other people or devices sharing the network can reduce available capacity. The connection must support the stream continuously, not merely during an idle speed test. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Send a test feed and preview it. Start the encoder output, then inspect the incoming preview in Live Control Room before making the broadcast public. Confirm the cave image is moving as expected, the dripping-water audio is audible and clean, and the intended watch page works. YouTube recommends testing the setup and monitoring stream health.
- Go live and monitor both ends. Once the preview is right, start the public broadcast through the Live Control Room as required by your encoder workflow. Check that the encoder remains connected and that audio and video continue to reach YouTube.
Plan recording and viewer rewind separately
A continuous 24-hour stream is not a safe way to create a complete YouTube archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. Its archive guidance recommends keeping a local archive backup. If retaining a full recording matters, record it locally and separately verify that your recording destination has enough storage and that your recording and restart process works for the duration you need.
Do not promise viewers that they can rewind the whole day. YouTube’s DVR guidance says DVR can be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including those longer than 12 hours; viewers also cannot seek to a point before the broadcast began.

Troubleshoot common problems
- You cannot start a live stream: check that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If live streaming has only just been enabled, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- YouTube receives no video: confirm the encoder is using the stream URL and key for the correct broadcast, then check that its output is actually running. Re-copy the key from Live Control Room if needed, and keep it private.
- The feed drops or becomes unstable: compare total bitrate with available upload bandwidth and restore the recommended 20% headroom. Check whether other network users or devices are consuming capacity.
- The preview has no water audio or has abrupt sound changes: verify the audio track is present and enabled in the encoder, then listen to the Live Control Room preview before launching publicly.
- The broadcast has no complete replay: this can happen with streams exceeding 12 hours; YouTube warns they may not be captured at all. Use and verify a separate local recording rather than treating the YouTube archive as a backup.
- Viewers cannot rewind far enough: long-stream DVR may be limited or unavailable, and rewind cannot go earlier than the start of the broadcast. A full-day rewind is not guaranteed.
