Verify that your channel can livestream, create a stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, enter its server URL and stream key in the encoder, then start the feed and go live. For a true 24/7 schedule, plan for sessions shorter than 12 hours if you need YouTube archives: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified, has live streaming enabled, and has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days. YouTube’s stated minimum age for livestreaming is 16.
- A computer capable of running your chosen live-stream encoder. The encoder’s own current system requirements determine what computer you need; no particular specification is established here.
- A continuous audio-and-visual program, such as a rain-and-thunder recording paired with a still image or visual loop. You do not need a camera, microphone, capture card, or dedicated rain-sound device for a pre-produced program.
- Permission to use both the audio and visuals on YouTube, including in an archived recording if you keep one.
Prepare the rain-and-thunder program
Clear the rights first
Use material you created or material whose licence expressly permits livestreaming and any planned archive. Keep copies of licences and permission records. A recording being freely available online does not establish that you may rebroadcast it.

YouTube scans live broadcasts for third-party material. A match may cause a placeholder to replace the stream, or the broadcast may be interrupted or terminated. If you have licensed material that is claimed by Content ID, ask the rights owner whether they can add your channel to its allowlist. A licence alone may not prevent an automated interruption.

Make the program genuinely yours
Build a distinct soundscape and visual treatment rather than simply rebroadcasting another creator’s minimally changed recording. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams; its July 15, 2025 policy update calls repetitive or mass-produced material “inauthentic content.” Reused content without meaningful original contribution can also affect eligibility, even if you hold permission or receive no copyright claim.

Create and start the YouTube livestream
- Check eligibility: verify your channel, confirm livestreaming is enabled, and check that it has no active restriction that prevents going live.
- Open Live Control Room: in YouTube Studio, create or schedule a livestream. Choose the title, description, visibility, and other stream details appropriate to your channel.
- Copy the connection details: copy the YouTube server URL and stream key shown for the stream. Treat the key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or include it in a public screen recording.
- Configure your encoder: select the prepared audio-and-visual program, then enter the server URL and stream key. Use the encoder’s current YouTube-compatible settings and confirm the selected output matches the source you intend to send.
- Start sending the feed: start streaming from the encoder and wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room. Check that both sound and picture are present and that the intended stream is selected.
- Go live: when the preview is ready, start the broadcast from Live Control Room. Confirm the public watch page is playing the expected program.
Bitrate, resolution, and keyframes
There is no single bitrate, resolution, or keyframe interval that can be prescribed for every encoder and source from the platform guidance summarized here. Do not guess values or assume that a setting suitable for one resolution or frame rate fits another. Check the current guidance in YouTube Live Control Room and your encoder’s documentation, then use compatible output settings for your actual audio and visual source.
Make a 24/7 schedule without relying on one archive
“24/7” describes the intended programming schedule, not a promise that one YouTube livestream or recording will remain uninterrupted indefinitely. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all.

Choose between one long session and shorter sessions

If uninterrupted viewing matters, test your restart and handoff process before relying on it. Do not assume viewers will experience a seamless transition between separate broadcasts unless you have verified that behavior for your setup.

Keep a local recording if the archive matters
YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. A local recording uses storage and requires a device and recording workflow, but it gives you another copy if a platform archive is unavailable. Confirm that the encoder can record locally at the same time as it streams, and check available disk space before leaving it unattended.

Keep the stream running and recover from interruptions
- Feed stops before you go live: check that the encoder is sending to the correct server URL and that the stream key matches the selected Live Control Room stream. Restart the feed and wait for the preview before trying to go live again.
- There is no preview: confirm the encoder is actively sending, check its connection and output status, and verify that you copied the URL and key without error.
- Picture or sound is missing: check the selected source and encoder audio/video routing, then verify the preview before starting or restarting the broadcast.
- YouTube replaces or interrupts the program: review any copyright or Content ID notice. Remove material you are not entitled to use; if you have a licence, contact the owner about channel allowlisting.
- The stream ends or needs a restart: reconnect from the encoder and follow the Live Control Room preview-and-go-live process. A separate session is not a guaranteed seamless handoff, so plan and test the transition.
- You need an archive: keep sessions under 12 hours and record locally as backup if preserving the program is important.
Monetization is a separate review
A licence to use rain audio or visuals does not guarantee that YouTube will approve a channel or stream for monetization. YouTube Partner Program requirements still apply, and monetization review can consider whether the material is original, repetitive, mass-produced, or reused without meaningful contribution. Make your creative contribution apparent and check the current YouTube Partner Program rules before relying on revenue.
