You can keep an ASMR YouTube livestream running around the clock with OBS by sending a continuous video-and-audio feed to YouTube Live Control Room. OBS does not guarantee uninterrupted uptime: the computer, connection, encoder, and YouTube ingest all have to keep working, so plan to monitor and recover the stream. Before you start, confirm your channel can livestream, configure OBS to match your upload capacity, and decide how you will preserve recordings—YouTube may not archive a stream longer than 12 hours.
Before you set up a continuous ASMR stream
Make sure your channel is eligible for live streaming. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Review YouTube’s live streaming tips and arrange the encoder stream ahead of time rather than discovering access or configuration problems at launch.
For a 24/7 broadcast, the practical requirement is a source that can run continuously: an ASMR video or visual paired with its audio, OBS, a computer that stays on, and a stable upload connection. These are operating considerations, not a YouTube requirement for a particular microphone, interface, or room treatment. Test with the actual sound and movement you intend to broadcast, at the settings you plan to use.
Create a YouTube encoder stream and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream using the encoder workflow. YouTube’s guide is Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service if available, and enter the key. If OBS asks for server details, use the stream URL YouTube provides. Labels can vary by OBS version.
- Keep the key private. YouTube describes the stream key as the credential that tells your encoder where to send the feed and enables YouTube to accept it. Do not show it on screen, publish it, or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS.
- Check the event’s public availability. YouTube recommends confirming the event can be accessed from your channel and watch pages. Check the intended visibility and scheduled time before going live.
Set OBS video, bitrate, and audio for a sustainable feed
In OBS, set the output and video options to a target your computer and internet connection can sustain. YouTube recommends RTMP/RTMPS and lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 for its encoder workflow. Its encoder settings guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a keyframe interval of two seconds, with no more than four seconds.

YouTube gives the same corresponding bitrate recommendations for AV1 or H.265 at those two targets. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular computer or connection can maintain them. Choose the resolution and frame rate your source needs; a static or gently moving ASMR scene may not need 60 fps. If your connection cannot sustain a target, reduce the output settings rather than treating the bitrate table as mandatory.
For stereo audio, YouTube’s listed guidance recommends 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Set OBS’s audio output accordingly if those options are available, then listen to the stream preview with headphones for level, noise, clipping, and channel balance. This is a practical sound check, not a YouTube-prescribed ASMR microphone technique.

Test upload capacity and preview before going live
- Measure upload speed under realistic conditions. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Other devices and users sharing your network can reduce the bandwidth available to OBS. For example, a stream sending 10 Mbps needs more than 10 Mbps of reliable upload capacity; allow the recommended headroom rather than running at the connection’s limit. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Run a representative test. Use audio and movement similar to the real ASMR program, not just a silent still image. Start the encoder and inspect the preview in Live Control Room before making the stream public.
- Check stream health and messages. Look for dropped frames, connection warnings, or audio/video problems. If the preview is unstable, lower the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate and test again.
- Consider a wired connection where practical. Ethernet is a reasonable option for a fixed streaming computer, but it does not guarantee uptime and is not required by YouTube. YouTube’s reliability tips include testing what happens when the primary encoder’s Ethernet connection is unplugged.
YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers. That does not remove the need to monitor your outgoing feed: check Live Control Room’s stream health and messages during operation.
Choose between one continuous session and separate broadcasts
A 24/7 stream lasts 1,440 minutes, far beyond YouTube’s stated 12-hour archive threshold. YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” For streams longer than 12 hours, YouTube warns that the broadcast may not be captured at all. Do not rely on one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast to create a complete YouTube replay. Read Archive live streams for the platform’s archive guidance.

- If uninterrupted ambience is the priority: keep the continuous stream, but make a separate local recording if you need an archive. Check that the local file is growing and verify that it plays correctly.
- If separate YouTube replays matter: consider shorter scheduled sessions instead of one stream that runs past 12 hours. Set session lengths around your content and your ability to monitor and restart broadcasts; shorter streams are not a promise of indefinite preservation.
Operate the stream and prepare for interruptions
OBS is an encoder, not an uptime guarantee. A 24/7 setup depends on the computer remaining powered, OBS continuing to send data, the upload connection holding, and YouTube accepting the feed. Make a human monitoring plan and decide who will respond if stream health changes. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality and testing a backup-encoder failover; its guidance does not establish a particular OBS watchdog, automatic restart utility, or guaranteed failover service.
- Keep the computer on and prevent sleep or automatic shutdown during the broadcast.
- Check Live Control Room periodically for stream-health warnings and playback problems.
- Monitor local recording files if you are keeping an archive, and verify their integrity rather than assuming that a file exists just because recording was enabled.
- Test your recovery steps before relying on the stream. Confirm how you will reconnect OBS to the existing scheduled broadcast or create a replacement event if needed.
Troubleshoot common OBS-to-YouTube problems
