1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo stream 4K at 60 fps from a Windows 11 PC to YouTube Live, use OBS or another encoder that supports your hardware, send the feed over RTMPS, and set a constant video bitrate of 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC, or 50 Mbps for H.264. Those are YouTube’s recommended video bitrates—not broadband plan speeds. Your PC and connection must sustain the settings at the place and time you stream, so test before going live.
Choose a codec and bitrate
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists these settings for 4K/2160p at 60 fps. The minimums are platform ingestion figures, not recommended targets for an ISP plan or a guarantee of reliable streaming.

| Video codec | YouTube minimum video bitrate | YouTube recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
Source: YouTube Help’s encoder settings, current page accessed in 2026. Use AV1 or HEVC only if your PC’s available encoder and streaming workflow support it; otherwise H.264 is an option. The recommended bitrate is for video. Audio, protocol overhead, and fluctuations in your route to YouTube require additional connection headroom. There is no universal upload-speed figure for India: performance depends on your provider, plan, local network, and time of day.

YouTube also supports RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a 2-second keyframe interval (not more than 4 seconds). It recommends RTMPS, the encrypted version of RTMP. For SDR, use Rec. 709 color space and 8-bit depth; AAC or MP3 audio is supported, with 128 Kbps recommended for stereo audio. See the YouTube encoder settings for the full current table.

Check your PC and prepare YouTube Live
Confirm encoder support
Windows 11 alone does not guarantee 4K/60 encoding. Check which hardware encoders OBS exposes for your GPU or other supported hardware, and whether the selected encoder supports the codec and output settings you intend to use. Test the actual workload. If the PC cannot encode reliably, try a supported hardware encoder or step down the resolution or frame rate rather than assuming software encoding will cope.
Enable live streaming ahead of time
If this is your first YouTube live stream, enable the feature early: YouTube says initial activation may take up to 24 hours. Follow the current instructions in YouTube’s encoder setup guide.

Create the stream and protect its key
In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Copy its stream key into OBS’s YouTube service configuration. YouTube describes the key as the stream’s password and address: keep it private, and do not publish or share it. Refer to YouTube’s stream settings guide for stream-management details.

- Open Settings in OBS. Choose the YouTube service and RTMPS where the interface offers the choice, then enter the stream key from Live Control Room. Do not show the key in a screen recording or public screenshot.
- Set the video output. Select the available supported hardware encoder, set the output resolution to 3840 × 2160, and set the frame rate to 60 fps. OBS only presents encoders supported by the device and installed configuration.
- Set encoding behavior. Choose CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval. Set the video bitrate to 35 Mbps for AV1 or HEVC, or 50 Mbps for H.264, if the chosen encoder supports that combination. Keep SDR at Rec. 709 and 8-bit unless you have a supported HDR workflow.
- Configure audio. YouTube supports AAC or MP3 and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio. Check that the intended microphone, desktop audio, or other source is selected and that it is not clipping or silent.
- Start a private test before the event. Match the expected audio and amount of motion, then watch YouTube’s stream health and any messages in Live Control Room. YouTube Help specifically advises testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream.
YouTube’s recommended bitrate is not a promise that an individual PC can encode smoothly or that a particular Indian internet connection can deliver the feed without interruption. Test from the PC, network, and location you will use for the event. A sustained upload test is more informative than an advertised plan rate alone.

Test the connection and choose a fallback
Use a wired Ethernet connection if practical, then repeat the test. A Cat6 cable is an optional way to test a wired path when the PC and router have suitable ports; it does not increase your ISP plan speed or guarantee a stable route to YouTube.
If YouTube reports unstable stream health or OBS shows dropped frames, reduce the bitrate, resolution, or frame rate and test again. YouTube’s recommended bitrates for lower-resolution 60 fps options are:

| Resolution and frame rate | AV1 or HEVC | H.264 |
|---|---|---|
| 1440p/60 | 24 Mbps | 34 Mbps |
| 1080p/60 | 12 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees about your connection. A lower tested setting is preferable to repeatedly attempting 4K/60 when your PC or upload path cannot sustain it. For live chat and other interactive events, account for latency too: YouTube does not offer its low-latency option at 4K/2160, so 4K is optimized for quality at normal latency. Lower resolution may suit an event where lower latency matters more.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Use HDR only with a supported HDR pipeline
For a regular SDR stream, use Rec. 709 and 8-bit. 4K resolution by itself does not make footage HDR. HDR is a separate configuration: YouTube’s current guidance says live HDR supports HEVC and specifies OBS 30.1 or later, an HDR source, hardware HEVC encoding, Main 10 profile, P010 color format, and Rec. 2100 PQ or HLG color space. Consult YouTube’s HDR live-streaming guidance before enabling it. The Live Control Room preview does not display HDR colors. Its Windows 11 instructions also describe enabling Windows HDR with Auto HDR even when the source is not HDR; do not treat that as a substitute for an HDR source and compatible encoding chain.

Troubleshoot common 4K/60 problems
- Live streaming is not available yet: First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Enable it ahead of the planned broadcast using YouTube’s setup guide.
- YouTube reports a poor or unstable connection: Check sustained upload from the streaming location, use Ethernet if practical, and reduce bitrate or output quality until a test is stable.
- OBS shows dropped frames: This points to a delivery or network issue. Test the connection and route, then lower bitrate or resolution and test again.
- OBS or the PC struggles to encode: Check CPU/GPU load and the encoder selected. Try an available hardware encoder that supports the required settings, or reduce resolution or frame rate.
- The stream is not 4K/60: Verify OBS output resolution and frame rate, the selected encoder’s support, and the settings shown in Live Control Room. A 4K source file alone does not ensure that the outgoing encoder feed is 4K/60.
- The stream key no longer works or appears exposed: Confirm the key assigned to the active stream in Live Control Room. If it has been shared publicly, replace or reset it through YouTube’s stream settings and update OBS.
- HDR looks incorrect in the preview: YouTube says its Live Control Room preview does not display HDR colors. Confirm the OBS HDR settings and the published stream on a suitable HDR display rather than judging HDR color from that preview.
Copyright and YouTube live-stream rules
Use video and audio you own or are licensed to stream, and check YouTube’s current policies and the rights for any music, clips, or other third-party material. A stream that runs continuously is not exempt from copyright enforcement or YouTube’s other rules. Reusing material does not itself establish that you have the necessary rights, and eligibility for monetization is a separate question from whether a stream can be started. Review YouTube’s applicable policies in YouTube Studio before broadcasting; the encoder-setting and setup pages linked above explain technical configuration, not whether a particular video is legally usable.
