YouTube recommends 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC, or 50 Mbps for H.264, at that resolution and frame rate. But technical setup is only half the job: for Tamil film songs, secure the rights to each recording and any film footage, and have the relevant rights owner add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before broadcasting. YouTube’s live copyright guidance warns that even licensed streams can be interrupted without allowlisting.
What you need for a continuous 4K60 broadcast
- A YouTube channel that is eligible to go live: it must be verified and have had no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and live-stream tips.
- Song and video rights covering the specific recordings, any accompanying film clips, your intended use, territories and broadcast period.
- An encoder that can produce 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps using a YouTube-supported codec and sustain the required upload bitrate.
- A reliable upload connection, plus time to test the stream with representative audio and moving video before the scheduled broadcast.
You can use software such as OBS or a professional hardware encoder; YouTube lists both types of options. Choose based on your source and production workflow, and verify that the encoder supports your exact resolution, frame rate and codec. Equipment does not provide music or film rights.

Choose the 4K60 video settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance, accessed in 2026, gives these ingest bitrate targets for 4K/2160p at 60 fps. The recommended figure is the target to plan for; it is not a guarantee that an unstable connection will sustain the stream.

For RTMP/RTMPS ingest, YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 video, frame rates up to 60 fps, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Its published advanced settings include progressive scan, square pixels, Rec. 709 for SDR, 44.1 kHz stereo audio and 128 Kbps stereo audio. Use RTMPS when available; YouTube recommends this secure extension to RTMP. See the encoder settings and bitrate guidance.

At 4K, YouTube uses normal latency; its low-latency optimization is not available. YouTube transcodes the incoming live signal into viewing formats for devices and network conditions.
Set up and test the YouTube Live stream
- Confirm live access. Verify the channel and check that it has no live-stream restriction from the previous 90 days. If this is the first time enabling live streaming, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Create the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream. Obtain the stream URL and stream key. The key directs your encoder to the event, so treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to send a feed.
- Configure the encoder. Set the output to 3840 × 2160 at 60 fps. Select a supported codec and use its corresponding recommended bitrate from the table. Set CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, and configure audio to YouTube’s listed specifications.
- Check your connection. Run an upload speed test and verify that the connection can sustain the target bitrate with room for normal fluctuations. A speed-test result is a snapshot, so do not treat it as proof of uninterrupted performance.
- Run a representative test. Send an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream and preview it in Live Control Room. Include audio and movement similar to the intended broadcast; check stability, picture quality, sound and audio/video synchronization before going public.
- Start and monitor the broadcast. Watch Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators and messages, and check audio and video quality during the event. Confirm that the event is accessible from the channel or watch page and on mobile devices.
- Decide whether to enable DVR. With DVR enabled, viewers can pause, rewind and resume the live stream.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing audio and movement similar to what will be in the stream. These checks can reveal problems, but they cannot guarantee a particular computer, network or encoder will run without interruption for an extended broadcast. Clear rights and Content ID before playing Tamil film songs
Being able to play a song or send it through an encoder is not permission to rebroadcast it. YouTube scans live streams for matches with third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and issue a warning; if the matched content continues, the stream may be interrupted or terminated.
If you have licensed the content, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist before the broadcast. YouTube specifically warns that a live stream can still be interrupted without allowlisting, even if you have a license or limit viewing to territories where you have the necessary rights. If you archive the broadcast, Content ID claims on the archived live stream are made after the stream ends; that timing does not prevent a live interruption during the broadcast. For each song, confirm permission for the actual recording and the planned rebroadcast. If your stream includes film footage, confirm those video rights too. Verify the permitted use, territories, term and allowlist status with the relevant rights holders before scheduling. A song’s availability on YouTube, a consumer music subscription or ownership of a copy does not by itself establish rebroadcast rights.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube says the stream is unstable: Check the encoder’s output bitrate and the connection’s sustained upload capacity. Confirm CBR is selected, then test again with the actual audio and motion planned for the event.
- The incoming feed is not 4K60: Verify the encoder’s output resolution and frame rate, not only the source file’s properties. Confirm the selected codec is supported and the event is receiving the intended signal in Live Control Room.
- The video looks poor or buffers for viewers: Check stream health and whether the upload is holding the target bitrate. YouTube transcodes the ingest for viewers, but a weak or fluctuating incoming feed can still undermine the source quality.
- Audio is missing, distorted or out of sync: Confirm AAC or MP3 audio, 44.1 kHz stereo and 128 Kbps stereo settings, then run another representative preflight and check synchronization in the preview.
- The live stream is interrupted after a copyright match: Stop or replace the matched content. Contact the relevant rights owner to resolve permissions and Content ID allowlisting before restarting; changing bitrate or encoder will not resolve a rights issue.
- The encoder will not connect: Check that the correct event’s stream URL and key are entered, that the key has not been exposed or replaced, and that the encoder is sending through a supported RTMP/RTMPS setup.
