To stream a Malayalam devotional video in 4K at 60 frames per second, create a YouTube live stream, connect OBS with its stream key, and configure OBS for 3840×2160 at 60 fps. For YouTube’s recommended 4K60 encoder bitrate, use 50 Mbps with H.264 or 35 Mbps with AV1 or H.265/HEVC; make sure your computer, source and upload connection can sustain the full production. Malayalam content does not require different encoder settings.
Check whether 4K60 is practical for your setup
A 4K60 stream needs more than a matching setting in OBS. The camera or video source must provide suitable footage, the encoder must support the selected codec, the computer must encode reliably, and the available upload bandwidth must stay above the stream bitrate. OBS cautions that 60 fps can be much more demanding than 30 fps, so test the complete setup before scheduling an event.

- Source: Use footage that genuinely has the detail and motion you want to show. Setting a lower-resolution source to 4K does not create captured detail.
- Encoder: Choose a codec and encoder supported by your hardware and OBS. A hardware encoder can reduce CPU workload, but its capability and quality vary by hardware generation.
- Upload: Check upload speed, not just download speed. YouTube recommends keeping capacity above the stream bitrate with about 20% headroom; other devices and services sharing the connection can consume that margin.
- Audio: Prepare the devotional track, vocals or narration at the source and check for clipping, unintended desktop sound and unwanted microphone input.
For the H.264 4K60 recommendation of 50 Mbps, YouTube’s headroom guidance implies planning for about 60 Mbps of available upload capacity, before allowing for other network use. That is a calculation from the recommended bitrate and headroom, not a separate YouTube-published target.
Choose a codec, bitrate and latency
YouTube Help recommends the following encoder input bitrates for 4K (2160p) at 60 fps. These are recommendations for sending the live feed to YouTube, which transcodes it into playback formats for viewers; they are not a guarantee that every viewer receives 4K. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

| Encoder codec | YouTube-recommended 4K60 video bitrate | Listed minimum |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
Use the recommended value for the codec you actually select, rather than importing settings for uploads or another streaming platform. AV1 and HEVC have a lower listed bitrate recommendation, but your encoder and workflow must support the chosen codec.
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframes: Two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS.
- Audio: AAC or MP3. For stereo AAC, YouTube recommends 128 kbps at 44.1 kHz.
YouTube does not offer its low-latency option for 4K; a 4K live stream uses normal latency. That is generally suitable when viewers do not need rapid back-and-forth interaction. If fast audience interaction matters more than 4K detail, consider a lower resolution and a latency option available for that stream. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase viewer buffering, while normal latency prioritizes stream quality. See YouTube’s latency settings.

Set up the YouTube stream and OBS
- Create or schedule the event: Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to set up a stream in Live Control Room. Choose the encoder workflow and configure the event details. YouTube’s guide covers creating a live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the connection details: In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube and update OBS. YouTube can detect resolution and frame rate by default; custom stream keys may allow manual resolution settings. See managing live streams.
- Configure video output: In OBS, open Settings > Video. Set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 3840×2160 and Common FPS Values to 60. Use these only if the source and system can sustain them. OBS’s overview explains its video and audio setup.
- Configure encoding: Open Settings > Output and use the advanced output mode if needed to expose encoder controls. Select a supported encoder and configure CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and the codec-appropriate YouTube bitrate. OBS labels and available options can differ by encoder and version; confirm that the selected encoder supports the settings you intend to use.
- Set 4K SDR color: For 4K SDR, YouTube specifies Rec. 709 and 8-bit. Do not enable HDR unless the source, encoder and full workflow are configured for HDR; this guide does not establish a need for HDR.
- Add and check audio: In OBS, select the intended microphone or auxiliary input, desktop audio only if required, and the correct audio track. Set stereo AAC to 128 kbps at 44.1 kHz if using YouTube’s recommendation. Listen to the OBS meters and a test recording or preview. Mute sources that should not be heard, and make sure vocals or the devotional track are not clipping. OBS supports desktop and microphone/auxiliary inputs; its overview describes the available source workflow.
- Test before the event: Start OBS in advance and check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages. Test with the same music, vocals, movement and scene changes planned for the live program. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder beforehand and starting it before the scheduled start; see its encoder guidance.
Check rights and YouTube policies before broadcasting
Confirm that you have the rights needed to broadcast each recording, song, performance and visual in the program. A devotional subject or public availability of a recording does not by itself establish permission to stream it. Rights can differ between a composition, a particular recording and a performance; resolve permission with the relevant rights holders and follow YouTube’s copyright processes. The sources cited here do not determine whether any specific Malayalam devotional recording is cleared.

Fallback settings when 4K60 is unstable
If OBS reports rendering or encoding strain, the Live Control Room reports poor stream health, frames drop, audio drifts, or upload capacity cannot hold the target bitrate, lower the output rather than persisting with an unreliable 4K60 stream. YouTube publishes bitrate recommendations for 1440p60 and 1080p60 as well as 4K; use the matching resolution and codec figures in its encoder settings table. Save a separate OBS profile or scene collection for fallback settings if you may need to switch during an event.
- Reduce resolution to 1440p or 1080p while keeping 60 fps if motion is important and the system can sustain it.
- Use 30 fps if the material and presentation do not need 60 fps and the computer or network is the constraint.
- Recheck audio after changing profiles; a video fallback should not mute or replace the intended devotional audio.
- If 4K and rapid audience interaction are both priorities, note that YouTube’s 4K stream uses normal latency; choose which requirement matters more for this event.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| OBS cannot connect to YouTube | Incorrect stream URL or key, or a key that was reset | Copy the current URL and key from Live Control Room into OBS. If the key was exposed, reset it and replace the saved OBS value. |
| Stream health warns or frames drop | Insufficient or variable upload capacity, competing network traffic, or encoder load | Measure available upload under realistic conditions, reduce competing traffic, and lower the bitrate or output resolution until the feed is stable. |
| Video stutters while OBS is encoding | Computer or encoder cannot sustain 4K60 | Check OBS statistics and encoder settings. Use a supported hardware encoder if appropriate, or switch to a lower resolution or frame rate. |
| Audio is missing, distorted or out of sync | Wrong source or track, muted input, clipping, or system strain | Check OBS audio meters, track routing and monitoring; mute unintended sources, lower levels that clip, and test the full configuration again. |
| Viewers experience buffering | Viewer-side connection or playback conditions, or an unstable source stream | Check Live Control Room stream health first. YouTube transcodes the feed, but viewer playback depends on their connection and device; do not infer a guaranteed 4K playback experience. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your program is a prerecorded devotional video that should loop continuously, StreamNeo is an alternative to leaving OBS running on a home computer. Upload the video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud. Nothing has to stay on at home, the video streams as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera.
