To stream a pre-recorded wedding video on YouTube Live, send it as an encoder feed: create a stream in YouTube Studio, enter its stream URL and key in an encoder that can play or route the file, test the incoming picture and sound, then go live. For 4K at 60fps, YouTube’s current guidance recommends 35 Mbps video bitrate for H.264. A stable upload connection, a real 4K/60 source, and cleared music rights matter as much as the encoder settings.
Before you set up the stream
Make sure the channel can go live
Verify the YouTube channel and check that it has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the wedding stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains activation and stream creation.

Check what is actually in the video file
Inspect the file’s resolution, frame rate, codec, audio tracks, and duration before choosing output settings. An export label or filename saying “4K 60fps” does not establish that the footage itself has those properties. Sending lower-resolution or lower-frame-rate material at 4K/60 does not restore detail or motion that is absent from the source.
Clear the soundtrack and other material
Wedding edits can include commercial songs, music audible at the venue, or footage owned by someone else. YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content; it can replace the picture with a placeholder, interrupt the stream, or terminate it if the match continues. A stream may also receive a copyright strike. YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams says that if an owner licensed material for your stream, you should ask the owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license by itself may not prevent interruption if the channel is not allowlisted.

YouTube’s Terms of Service put responsibility on the creator to have the necessary rights, including music rights. Clear the recording, soundtrack, and third-party footage for the intended territory and use; private, unlisted, or invitation-only viewing does not itself establish that you have those rights. Legal requirements can depend on jurisdiction, so seek local legal advice for a specific dispute.
Configure a 4K 60fps encoder stream
- Create the YouTube event: In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Scheduling can create a watch page to share in advance. Follow the setup flow in YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- Connect the encoder: Copy the stream URL and stream key from the Live Control Room into the encoder’s stream settings. The key allows YouTube to accept the feed, so treat it like a password: do not share it publicly, and reset it if it is exposed.
- Load the prerecorded video: Use an encoder workflow that explicitly supports playing or routing a local video file as its input. YouTube’s general encoder guide does not provide file-loading controls for every program, so consult the current documentation for the encoder you choose. Do not assume that all encoders offer the same playback controls.
- Set the output: Choose 3840 × 2160 at 60fps only if the source and playback/encoding setup can sustain it. YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; RTMP/RTMPS settings use constant bitrate (CBR) and recommend a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Confirm the latest codec-specific values in YouTube’s live encoder settings.
- Choose a bitrate for the codec: YouTube’s English live-settings page accessed in 2026 recommends 35 Mbps video bitrate for 4K/2160p at 60fps using H.264. The same page lists a 10–40 Mbps range for AV1/H.265. These are encoder video-bitrate figures, not guarantees of uninterrupted delivery or a full network-capacity target; check YouTube’s current settings for your chosen codec.
- Run a representative test: Use an unlisted or private test with the same video segment, sound, encoder, computer, and network planned for the event. Check the Live Control Room preview for picture and audio, and look for stream-health warnings. YouTube recommends testing with similar audio and movement to what you will stream.
- Reserve upload capacity: YouTube recommends 20% bandwidth headroom above the stream’s total bitrate. Shared connections can limit the bandwidth available to your stream even when the connection appears fast overall. A wired connection can be a practical choice where available, but YouTube’s cited guidance is about capacity and stability, not a requirement to use a particular connection type.
- Start early and keep a backup: Start sending the encoder feed ahead of the planned start, confirm the preview, then go live from the Live Control Room. Monitor the picture, sound, and stream health during the event. Record a local copy as well: YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but recommends a local backup.
Choose a workflow for one wedding or recurring broadcasts
For a one-time wedding stream, a local encoder gives you direct control over the file and event, but its playback and encoding depend on the computer and connection you use. For a recurring or continuous broadcast of prerecorded videos, YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded streaming with 4K/30/60fps support. That capability is described in YouTube’s listing; it is not an independent performance test or endorsement. Pick based on whether you need manual control for one event or an always-on loop, as well as source and codec compatibility, network tolerance, rights clearance, and backup plans.

Troubleshooting a prerecorded 4K60 stream
- No incoming preview: Check that the encoder is sending to the stream URL and key for the correct event, that the event is ready in Live Control Room, and that the encoder has actually started its feed. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Video stutters or the stream health degrades: Check available upload bandwidth, shared-network use, and whether the connection sustains the bitrate with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Repeat the representative test before the event rather than assuming a speed-test result guarantees stable streaming.
- Output is not 4K or 60fps: Recheck the source file’s actual properties and the encoder’s output settings. Confirm the selected codec and current YouTube settings; an output setting cannot add source detail or frames that the file does not contain.
- Picture is interrupted or replaced: Check for a third-party-content match and contact the rights owner about the necessary permissions and Content ID allowlisting. YouTube can still interrupt a stream when licensed content is not allowlisted.
- Computer requirements are unclear: YouTube’s general guidance does not establish minimum CPU/GPU specifications for playing and encoding a particular 4K60 file. Test the exact file in the chosen encoder on the intended machine; no computer model or capture card requirement is established for this workflow.
- Archive is missing or incomplete: Do not rely on YouTube’s archive as the only copy. Keep the local recording, particularly if the stream approaches or exceeds the under-12-hour automatic-archive threshold.
Or let it run in the cloud
