A temple can keep a devotional YouTube channel live around the clock by sending a continuous audio-video feed from a local encoder or a cloud playout service. Before building the playlist, clear the rights to both the recordings and the underlying music, and decide who will respond if YouTube interrupts the stream. A religious setting alone does not settle copyright questions, and a licence may not prevent an interruption if a rights owner has not allowlisted the channel.
Choose how the stream will run
There are two practical operating approaches: run an encoder locally, or use cloud playout. A local setup depends on equipment, power and internet at the temple, plus someone able to monitor it. Cloud playout can keep the feed running without a temple computer staying on; compare its playlist support, recovery process, monitoring, rights responsibilities and total cost before choosing.

The National Informatics Centre describes an encoder in its own webcast-service context; that supports the general equipment category, not a requirement to buy a dedicated hardware encoder for YouTube. If you compare hardware, check its protocol and format compatibility against current YouTube Studio settings and the manufacturer’s documentation.
Clear rights before preparing the playlist
Make a rights inventory of every item in the proposed continuous feed. A devotional subject, temple venue or purchased copy does not by itself show that the temple may rebroadcast the material. A recording (the master) and the underlying musical work, including composition or lyrics, can have different rights holders.

- List every audio item. Include aarti and bhajan recordings, instrumental beds, and incidental music that might be heard in the feed.
- Identify the rights layers. Record who controls each specific recording and, where known, who controls its composition and lyrics.
- Get written permission for the actual use. For third-party material, ask for authorization covering continuous public YouTube streaming, the intended territories, monetization if planned, the term, and any archive or replay.
- Ask about Content ID and allowlisting. Confirm whether the rights owner uses Content ID and whether it needs to allowlist the temple’s YouTube channel. YouTube says a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted.
- Keep permission records accessible. Store the permission and contact details where the person monitoring the stream can find them if a warning appears.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may lead to a warning, a placeholder, interruption or termination; an archived stream can also receive a Content ID claim after it ends. Permission is important, but it is not a guarantee that automated checks will not interrupt the live feed.
What India’s religious-ceremony wording does—and does not—settle
The Indian Copyright Office’s material reproduces Section 52(1)(za), which refers to “the performance of a literary, dramatic or musical work or the communication to the public of such work or of a sound recording in the course of any bona fide religious ceremony or an official ceremony held by the Central Government or the State Government or any local authority.” That wording is not, by itself, a settled answer for a continuous, online, radio-style channel or for a particular recording with multiple rights layers. The retrieved official material does not determine whether a specific 24/7 YouTube broadcast qualifies. Ask an India-qualified copyright professional about the temple’s exact format and repertoire.

Build and publish the feed
The steps below describe a local-encoder workflow. Studio labels and available controls can change, so verify the current YouTube Live setup guidance in YouTube Studio when configuring the channel. Do not treat another webcast service’s encoder specifications as YouTube requirements.
- Prepare cleared media. Assemble only material the temple owns or has permission to stream. Make a playlist in the intended order, check that each file plays through to its end, and decide whether any visual element—such as a temple image or programme card—is also cleared for use.
- Choose an encoder and confirm it can loop. Use an encoder capable of sending the prepared audio-video feed to YouTube and repeating the playlist or source continuously. This can be software or compatible hardware; a dedicated hardware encoder is not established as necessary. Confirm supported formats and connection method in its documentation.
- Prepare the local operating setup. Connect the encoder machine to reliable power and the temple’s internet connection. Prevent avoidable sleep or shutdown, and assign a named person to monitor the stream and respond to power, network, encoder or YouTube warnings. - Start the encoder and confirm YouTube receives it. Follow the live setup’s current on-screen instructions to start the feed and publish it. Confirm the public viewing page is live and that the stream continues past a playlist boundary.
- Monitor and document. Keep a person responsible for checking Studio alerts and stream continuity. Record the time and nature of any interruption, the relevant warning, and the action taken; this makes a later rights-owner or technical follow-up more useful.
Do not guess bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval or other encoder values from settings intended for a different webcast service. Use the values and formats currently shown for the chosen YouTube stream and encoder combination. Recover from interruptions
Continuous means the intended schedule, not a guarantee that every component or platform stays online. Plan a response for both technical failures and rights enforcement, and make sure the person on duty knows whom to contact.
