These are practical applications of general paper-conservation guidance, not Pokémon-specific preservation rules.
Protect loose cards before choosing a storage system
Handle cards carefully and slide them gently into a sleeve or holder sized for the card. Choose the next layer based on whether you want to browse the collection, provide individual support, or reduce handling. No holder can prevent every kind of damage, so fit and careful handling matter as much as the storage format.

Binder pages for cards you want to browse
Use pages that fit standard cards without forcing them into the pockets. BCW describes its side-loading standard-card pages as 115-micron polypropylene, acid-free and PVC-free; those are manufacturer claims, not a guarantee of risk-free storage. See BCW’s page specifications.

Ultra PRO’s support guidance says its pages use non-PVC polypropylene and warns against overfilling pages or putting thick cards into standard nine-pocket pages that do not support their thickness. Follow the capacity and fit guidance for the specific pages you use. Read Ultra PRO’s binder and page guidance.

Individual holders for added support
A semi-rigid holder can be useful when you want more support around an individual card or expect to handle it less often than binder cards. Ultra PRO describes its CardPreserver as a standard-size polypropylene holder with a soft-loading front, semi-rigid back and resealable flap; its product page describes the construction as acid-free and PVC-free. Store sealed packs and boxes without pressure
Keep sealed products out of direct or intense light, away from leaks and environmental extremes, and somewhere they will not be squeezed or crushed. If you use an outer case or box, choose one that fits without putting pressure on the packaging. General preservation guidance supports stable conditions and protective enclosures, but does not establish a specific Pokémon sealed-product case or packing method. An airtight container or desiccant is not shown to be necessary for every collection.

Choose a stable environment, not a magic number
For paper, the Library of Congress recommends a “cool (room temperature or below), relatively dry (about 35% relative humidity), clean, and stable environment,” with minimal light and no direct or intense exposure. This is conservation guidance for works on paper, not an official Pokémon card-storage target. Read the Library of Congress paper-care guidance.
The U.S. National Archives advises keeping relative humidity below 65% to help prevent mold and reduce insect activity in family archives. That guidance has a different context from the Library of Congress example; neither establishes a precise humidity range for Pokémon cards or sealed products. In practical terms, favor a clean location with steady conditions over spots prone to dampness, leaks, intense light or large environmental swings. A hygrometer may help if a storage room is damp or variable, but the cited guidance does not make monitoring equipment necessary for every collection.

Pokémon Organized Play’s 2023 tournament handbook addresses sleeves for play, not long-term preservation. It says a sleeve must enclose a single card in its entirety and recommends opaque-backed sleeves because clear sleeves or no sleeves can expose imperfections on a card’s back. It also names scratches, tears, discoloration and bends as examples of damage that can make a card marked for tournament purposes.
