Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA ticket does not need Google Wallet to be usable. Open the airline or venue’s official app or website while you have internet, then keep the confirmation email and any downloadable PDF on your phone. If the issuer accepts screenshots or printouts, save one as a fallback and verify that the complete code is readable before you leave. For flights, keep the identification and ticket copy required by the carrier and airport process.
Wallet support is controlled by the ticket issuer, not by your phone alone. Google Wallet accepts passes from participating airlines, venues and ticket providers, so a missing Add to Google Wallet button usually means the issuer has not enabled that integration. The safest plan is to retain two issuer-approved ways to retrieve the same ticket: the live app or website plus an offline email, PDF or permitted screenshot.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Open the issuer’s official app or website online. Sign in, retrieve the booking or order and display the boarding pass or event ticket.
- Save the original confirmation email. Keep the message in an account you can access on the device, and star, flag or otherwise mark it so it is easy to find.
- Download the original PDF or mobile ticket if offered. Store it in the phone’s file storage so it can be opened without a network connection.
- Make a screenshot only when the issuer says it is acceptable. Include the entire QR code or barcode, ticket number, name, date, seat and other required details.
- Test the fallback offline. Turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data, open the saved file or image and check that the code remains sharp and fully visible.
- Carry identification for air travel. Google’s boarding-pass import guidance says travelers should have a printed or digital copy and photo identification available at security and the boarding gate; follow your carrier’s and airport’s current instructions for the specific trip.
This approach gives you a current, issuer-controlled display when connectivity is available and a local backup when it is not. It does not make an unapproved screenshot valid: acceptance remains the airline’s, venue’s or ticket provider’s decision.

Why a ticket may not appear in Google Wallet
Google describes Wallet tickets as passes supplied by participating airlines, venues and ticket providers. Wallet is therefore not a universal destination for every ticket purchased online. The issuer must create the pass, expose an add control or support an import route, and configure the barcode for its scanners.
A ticket can be perfectly legitimate while lacking a Google Wallet option. The issuer may support only its own app, a PDF, email delivery, printing or another wallet platform. A missing button is not evidence that the booking failed; check the order in the issuer’s account or confirmation message first.
Wallet support can differ by issuer and use case
Support is not even consistent across all services from one company. Royal Caribbean’s published FAQ, for example, describes Apple Wallet support while saying Google Wallet is unavailable for its boarding-pass use case. That is an issuer-specific example, not a rule for every cruise, airline or event. Read the instructions attached to your exact reservation rather than inferring compatibility from another ticket.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →When the issuer’s help page does not answer the question, contact its support team and ask four precise questions:
- Is Google Wallet supported for this exact ticket type and departure or event date?
- If not, is Apple Wallet supported?
- Will staff accept a downloaded PDF, a screenshot, or a printed copy?
- Does the barcode refresh or change, making a saved image unsuitable?
Use the issuer’s app or website as the primary ticket
The official channel is the best place to see changes such as a gate, boarding group, seat, performance time or entry instruction. It may also present a barcode that updates after a rebooking or check-in change. Keep it as your primary display whenever you can connect.

Airline workflow
- Open the airline’s official app or type its website address yourself rather than following an unexpected message link.
- Sign in and open Trips, Manage booking, Check-in or the equivalent label.
- Complete check-in if required, then open the boarding pass screen.
- Confirm the passenger name, flight number, date, origin, destination, seat or boarding group and barcode.
- Leave the pass open long enough for any barcode or boarding information to finish loading before taking a fallback copy.
Some carriers issue a pass only after check-in; others show a reservation first and a scannable pass later. A reservation email is useful evidence of the booking, but it may not be the same thing as a boarding pass. Follow the airline’s instructions about when check-in opens and what document is required at security or the gate.
Venue or event workflow
- Open the venue, promoter or ticket provider’s app or website and locate the order.
- Check whether the event uses a named ticket, a transferable ticket, a seat assignment or an entry credential that is generated at the door.
- Read the entry instructions for the accepted formats. Some issuers tell you to show the live app; others provide a PDF or explicitly allow printing.
- Display the code and all surrounding details once, while online, so the app can finish downloading the ticket data.
Do not assume that a barcode visible in an order history is the final entry credential. If the page says the ticket is mobile-only, dynamic or available only in the app, ask the issuer before relying on a saved image.

Save the confirmation email and PDF for offline access
Keep the original email because it contains the order reference, issuer contact details and, often, a direct link to the ticket. Download any attached PDF instead of relying solely on an online preview. Place the file in a clearly named folder in the phone’s file manager, and optionally keep a second copy in an offline-capable mail or cloud account.
What the offline file should contain
- The complete QR code, Aztec code or PDF417 barcode, without cropping.
- The passenger or attendee name and the order, ticket or confirmation number.
- Date, route or event, seat and other details the issuer says staff must check.
- Any instructions about identification, check-in, bag drop or entrance location.
A PDF is not automatically accepted merely because it opens on your phone. The issuer controls whether staff may scan or inspect it, so verify the rule before travel. If a later change affects the booking, download a fresh file and remove or clearly label the old one to avoid presenting the wrong version.
Check that the file really works offline
- Open the PDF or saved email while connected.
- Temporarily enable airplane mode or disable both Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Close and reopen the file from local storage, not from a browser tab that may need the internet.
- Zoom to the barcode and confirm that all modules or bars are sharp and unobstructed.
- Restore connectivity and repeat the check after any rebooking, seat change or event update.
This test proves only that your phone can display the file without a connection. It cannot guarantee that the issuer or scanner will accept that format.

When a screenshot is useful—and when it is risky
A screenshot is a simple offline fallback only when the airline, venue or ticket provider permits it. Ask specifically; do not treat a screenshot as interchangeable with a live mobile ticket.
Capture the complete ticket
Show the entire barcode or QR code at its native size, along with the name, ticket number and any text the issuer requires. Avoid editing, annotating, compressing or cropping the image. Save the original capture in a dedicated album or folder with a descriptive filename, and keep the PDF or email as a second format.
Static codes versus changing codes
A static code can remain the same after it is issued, but only the issuer can confirm that. A dynamic, rotating or refreshed code may be designed to change over time or when the live app is opened. A screenshot of one moment may therefore be rejected even if it is perfectly legible. Never claim that a screenshot will work for a changing code without an explicit statement from the issuer.
Google’s Pixel screenshot-to-Wallet method
Google documents a limited method for turning a boarding-pass screenshot into a Wallet pass on Pixel phones version 3 and later. The prerequisites are a Pixel 3 or newer device, the Google Wallet app and an internet connection while the pass is being added. Once saved, the pass can be accessed offline. Google presents this as a boarding-pass workflow, not a universal way to import every event ticket. Read the instructions in Google Wallet Help and confirm that your particular boarding pass is eligible.
Even when the Pixel workflow succeeds, the underlying airline still decides whether the resulting pass is acceptable at its checkpoints. Keep the original airline app, email or PDF until the journey is complete.

Apple Wallet can be an alternative, but the issuer must enable it
If an airline or venue offers an Add to Apple Wallet button but not a Google Wallet button, use the issuer-provided Apple flow on a compatible Apple device. Apple’s support guidance says to contact the airline when the add control is missing because the airline determines whether its boarding passes can be added: Apple Support: Use your boarding pass in Apple Wallet.
Apple’s Wallet design guidance lists QR, Aztec and PDF417 as supported two-dimensional barcode formats. Format support describes what Wallet can display; it does not mean every issuer creates a compatible pass or that every scanner accepts every saved image. The issuer’s instructions still control. See Apple’s Wallet Human Interface Guidelines and Getting Started with Apple Wallet for the platform details.
If no Apple Wallet option appears, do not try to manufacture a pass from a PDF or screenshot. Retain the issuer’s approved app, file, email or printed document instead, and ask support which format staff will accept.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Compare the practical storage options
When more than one format is offered, choose based on issuer acceptance first, then code behavior and offline retrieval.
| Storage method | Who controls acceptance | Code behavior | Offline access | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Issuer app or website | The airline, venue or ticket provider | May show the latest live ticket; behavior is issuer-specific | Depends on the app and whether it has already cached the ticket | May require connectivity or sign-in at the moment you need it |
| Downloaded PDF | The issuer’s stated entry or travel policy | Usually represents the document issued at download; later changes may require a new file | Yes, when stored locally and opened by the phone | Not accepted by every issuer or scanner |
| Confirmation email | The issuer’s stated policy | Contains the information and attachment supplied in the message | Yes, if the message or attachment is available offline | A booking confirmation may not be the same as a scannable boarding pass |
| Screenshot | Only the issuer can authorize it | Static image of the moment captured; unsuitable for a rotating code unless the issuer says otherwise | Yes | May omit updates and may be rejected even when legible |
| Google Wallet pass | A participating issuer plus Google Wallet | Pass behavior depends on the issuer’s Wallet implementation | Google documents offline access after a supported pass is saved | Not available for tickets from non-participating issuers |
| Apple Wallet pass | A participating issuer plus Apple Wallet | Pass behavior depends on the issuer’s implementation | Wallet is designed to keep saved passes available on the device | Apple Wallet format support does not make an issuer’s ticket eligible |
If the live app is available, use it for the most current information. Keep a locally saved issuer-provided file or an explicitly permitted screenshot as the offline backup.

Air-travel requirements beyond the barcode
A boarding pass is only one part of the airport process. Google’s guidance for boarding passes imported from flight-reservation emails says to carry a printed or digital copy and have photo identification available at security and the boarding gate: Google for Developers: Import boarding passes from flight reservation emails. That guidance is tied to the documented airline boarding-pass use case; it should not be generalized to every carrier, airport or event.
Check the airline’s own requirements for passports, visas, residence documents, minors, international connections and bag drop. A screenshot cannot replace an identity document or any document required by border or security authorities. Keep the phone charged enough to show the ticket, but do not rely on battery power alone when the airline accepts a printed copy.
What to do when something goes wrong
The Add to Google Wallet button is missing
Confirm that you are viewing the final ticket rather than a reservation or receipt. Look for the issuer’s help page, then contact support and ask whether Google Wallet is supported for that exact product. If it is not, follow the issuer’s app, PDF, email or print instructions instead.
The screenshot scans poorly
Open the original ticket and capture it again at full resolution. Increase screen brightness, remove any crop and display the code without reflections or overlays. If the issuer requires a live or changing code, stop using the screenshot and present the official app or ask staff for an approved alternative.
The PDF will not open without internet
Download it again while connected and save it to local device storage rather than only to a browser download page. Re-test in airplane mode. If the issuer supplied a new version after a change, delete the obsolete copy or label it clearly.
Your itinerary or event details changed
Reconnect, open the issuer’s live ticket and download a replacement. Recheck the flight number or event, date, seat and barcode. Do not present an earlier screenshot or PDF simply because it is easier to find.
Staff reject the saved format
Show the issuer’s live app or website if possible and provide the order reference. Ask the issuer in advance about an approved printout or counter-issued pass for future attempts. A scanner’s rejection does not establish that the ticket is invalid; it may mean the selected format is not authorized for that entry point.
Pre-departure checklist
- Open the final ticket in the official app or website while online.
- Save the confirmation email and download the issuer-provided PDF, if available.
- Ask whether screenshots and printouts are accepted, and whether the code changes.
- Capture a full, legible screenshot only if the issuer permits it.
- Open the local file or image with connectivity disabled.
- Check the name, date, route or event, seat, ticket number and barcode.
- For flights, carry the required photo identification and any other travel documents.
- Keep the phone charged and retain the live app until entry or boarding is complete.
The dependable solution is not finding a way to force every ticket into Google Wallet. It is keeping the issuer’s approved live ticket plus a tested offline copy in a format that the issuer confirms it will accept.
