Turn off every output, disconnect loads, and keep the power station in a dry, cool, ventilated place. Check its charge on the schedule in the exact model’s manual and refresh or cycle it only to that manual’s target. There is no universal storage percentage: the cited instructions range from 40–60% to 100%, depending on model and storage period. Never leave a station empty for an extended time, and do not assume one manufacturer’s temperature limits or warranty conditions apply to another model.
The safe between-use routine
Use this sequence whenever a portable power station is going into storage:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Remove the load. Unplug appliances, solar inputs and other accessories as directed by the owner’s manual.
- Switch off the outputs or main power. Some manuals specifically require the main power button to be off; others refer to turning off output ports. Follow the wording for your model.
- Check the exterior. If it needs cleaning, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Do not put water or cleaning liquid into ports.
- Set the storage charge. Use the model’s stated percentage or range. Do not substitute a percentage copied from another brand or model.
- Choose the location. Store it indoors, on a stable, flat surface, in a dry, ventilated and cool place within the manual’s temperature range.
- Record the date and charge reading. A note or calendar reminder makes the next inspection less likely to be missed.
- Inspect it on schedule. Check the indicated charge at the interval specified by the maker. Refresh or cycle the battery only as instructed.
- Before an emergency use, verify operation. Confirm the displayed charge and that the station operates according to the manufacturer’s instructions rather than assuming a long-stored reading is accurate.
This routine is deliberately conservative: the manuals and support pages reviewed do not establish a single calibration process, universal test load, or one best charge percentage for every portable station.

Portable power stations are sold under many models and battery-pack configurations. Their manufacturers publish different storage targets and different refresh intervals. The examples below include a general support FAQ, regional guidance and product-specific manuals, so they should be treated as instructions for those exact products—not as a ranking or a battery-chemistry rule.

One instruction is consistent across the sources: do not leave the station at 0% for a prolonged period. Jackery’s general storage guidance says not to store at 0%, while EcoFlow warns that leaving a unit idle with a severely low battery can cause harm. The one apparent exception is the EcoFlow E980 procedure, which says to discharge to 0% and then recharge to 60% every three months. That is a model-specific cycling instruction; it does not mean the E980 should sit depleted between checks, and it should not be copied to another model.
Model-specific charge and temperature guidance
| Manufacturer and example | Storage charge and check schedule | Temperature and location guidance | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| EcoFlow E980 | For long-term storage, discharge to 0%, then recharge to 60% every three months. | Ideally 20–30°C. Avoid water and intense heat; do not store above 45°C or below −10°C for extended periods. | The manual says warranty coverage does not apply if the unit is not charged or discharged for more than six months. This condition is specific to the E980 manual. |
| EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus | Charge and discharge every three months, then store at 60%. Do not leave it unused or uncharged for more than six months. | Permitted range −10–45°C; approximately 0–30°C is recommended. Keep it dry, cool and well ventilated. Clean with a soft, dry cloth. | This is the RIVER 3 Plus Portable Power Station User Manual, not a rule for every EcoFlow product. |
| Jackery general storage FAQ | Keep the battery around or above 80%. Power on and check it approximately every three months. | 10–40°C; cool and dry, away from direct sunlight. Avoid long-term storage in a vehicle. | This is general support guidance, so the exact model manual still takes precedence. |
| Anker SOLIX C1000/C1000X (UK guide) | Turn off the main power. Check weekly; if below 30%, fully charge. Charge to 100% once every three months. | Keep it dry and cool. The cited passage does not specify a numerical storage range. | The weekly check and UK regional guide apply to these models and edition, not automatically to other SOLIX units or regions. |
| Anker SOLIX F2000 (PowerHouse 767) | Turn off outputs. Charge to 100% after use and again every three months while stored. | 0–40°C. Avoid rain and humid environments, and keep the unit on a flat surface. | This is a product-specific instruction; do not merge it with the C1000/C1000X schedule. |
| BLUETTI B300K | Before storage, 60–80% and cycle every six months. If storage exceeds six months, use 40–60% and cycle every three months; perform a charge cycle before reuse. | Safe range −20–40°C. For storage longer than one month, aim for −20–25°C. | The target changes with storage duration, so “the BLUETTI percentage” is not a single value. |
These entries are intentionally not averaged. For example, applying the E980’s 60% target to a Jackery unit, or replacing Anker’s 100% instruction with a 60% target, would contradict the relevant manual. Confirm the exact model number, attached battery packs and sales region before setting a reminder.
How to prepare a station for storage
1. Finish the operating session safely
Switch off connected appliances before unplugging them, then disconnect the loads and any charging source. Turning off the station’s output ports or main power prevents a forgotten device from continuing to draw energy while the unit is unattended. The Anker SOLIX C1000/C1000X guide calls for the main power to be off; the F2000 guide calls for outputs to be off. Use the control described in your own manual.
2. Inspect and clean without introducing moisture
Look for a wet surface, dirt around vents, or obvious damage before putting the unit away. If cleaning is needed, the RIVER 3 Plus manual states: “Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe and clean the product.” Keep the cloth dry, and do not spray into sockets, fans, displays or seams. The purpose is to remove surface dust while keeping moisture away from electrical parts.
3. Apply the correct charge instruction
Read the storage section for the precise model instead of relying on the percentage shown in a generic article. Some products ask for a fixed target, some give a range, and some change the target when storage lasts longer. If the manual instructs a cycle, complete that cycle promptly and then leave the station at the stated storage level; do not leave it sitting empty while waiting for the next reminder.

4. Put it in a suitable place
Choose an indoor location that is dry, ventilated and protected from direct sun. Keep the station on a flat, stable surface where it cannot be splashed or knocked over. Temperature limits are model-specific. A parked vehicle is a poor long-term location because its interior can become hotter or colder than the permitted range; Jackery explicitly warns against long-term vehicle storage.
5. Set a dated reminder
Write down the storage date and target charge. A recurring reminder should state the model, the required percentage and the action due—such as “check,” “fully charge,” or “cycle”—because those actions are not interchangeable. Three months is common in the examples, but the C1000/C1000X guide adds weekly checks and the B300K changes its cycle interval for storage beyond six months.

What to do during storage
Follow the maker’s inspection interval
At each check, wake the unit only as the manual directs and read the indicated state of charge. The Anker C1000/C1000X guidance calls for weekly checks and a full charge if the reading is below 30%. Other cited guidance asks for a three-month check or cycle. If your manual gives no interval, contact the manufacturer or authorized service channel rather than inventing a schedule from another model.
Refresh or cycle only when required
A refresh may mean charging to a specified level; a cycle may mean charging and discharging according to a documented procedure. Do not assume that “cycle” means running the station to empty. The E980’s 0%-then-60% sequence is an explicit example, while other guidance warns against storing at 0%. Use the exact words and limits in the manual.
Keep the environment stable
Do not move the station from a cool indoor room to a damp shed, a sunny windowsill or a vehicle merely because it is not being used. Avoid rain, humid environments and intense heat. If the storage room leaves the model’s permitted range, move the station to a compliant location before the next charge or cycle.

Keep the outside dry and unobstructed
Leave ventilation openings clear and do not cover the unit with damp fabric or place it where condensation can form. A dry, soft cloth is sufficient for routine surface cleaning; the cited guidance does not establish a need for a special cleaning kit, replacement battery, storage case or other maintenance accessory.

Choosing a storage location by temperature
Temperature numbers in manuals describe different things: a safe operating or storage range, a preferred range, or a limit beyond which extended storage is discouraged. Read the label carefully. For example, the RIVER 3 Plus lists −10–45°C as an allowed range but recommends approximately 0–30°C, whereas the E980 says 20–30°C is ideal and warns against extended storage above 45°C or below −10°C. The B300K lists a safe −20–40°C range and a narrower −20–25°C aim for storage longer than one month.
When a model gives no number, as in the cited C1000/C1000X passage, “dry and cool” is the complete published guidance in that passage. Do not fill the gap with a number from another product. Keep all stations away from direct sunlight, water and humidity; those environmental hazards are called out independently of the numerical ranges.
Long-term storage plans
Storage for about a few weeks
Disconnect loads, switch off outputs, place the station in the recommended environment and use the short-term charge target in the manual. If the manual does not require a check before the next use, inspect the displayed charge before connecting an emergency load.
Storage around three months
Several examples use a three-month event: the E980 and RIVER 3 Plus call for charging or cycling at that interval, Jackery asks users to power on and check approximately every three months, and both cited Anker examples specify a three-month full charge. The percentage differs, so put the model’s target in the reminder rather than writing only “charge power station.”

Storage longer than six months
Read the long-term section particularly closely. The E980 manual states that warranty coverage does not apply if the unit is not charged or discharged for more than six months, and the RIVER 3 Plus manual says not to leave it unused or uncharged beyond six months. The B300K changes to a 40–60% target with a three-month cycle when storage exceeds six months. These are separate product instructions, not a universal six-month rule. If you cannot meet the required checks, arrange a different storage plan or ask the manufacturer for model-specific advice.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Before relying on it in an outage
Inspect the station in its storage location, confirm the indicated charge and operate it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Check that the outputs you intend to use can be enabled and that the unit is not showing a warning. The reviewed manuals and support pages do not establish a universal calibration procedure or a required test load, so avoid claiming that one short test proves capacity or runtime. If the display, charging behavior or warning indicators do not match the manual, stop and consult the maker’s troubleshooting or service instructions before connecting critical equipment.
Common mistakes and the correct response
Leaving the station at 0%
Why it is a problem: Jackery says not to store at 0%, and EcoFlow warns about harm from leaving a severely low battery idle.
What to do: If the unit has just reached empty, follow the manual’s charging instruction promptly. Do not leave it depleted while waiting for the normal reminder. If it has been empty for an extended period and will not charge normally, use the manufacturer’s service guidance rather than repeatedly forcing charge attempts.

What to do: Identify the exact model and battery configuration, then use that manual. A general brand FAQ may not cover a particular product, while a regional guide may apply only to the listed edition.
Storing in a hot car or damp outbuilding
Why it is risky: Vehicle temperatures can exceed the model’s storage range, and humidity or rain can damage electrical equipment.
What to do: Move the station indoors to a dry, cool, ventilated place within the published range before storage. Do not rely on a vehicle trunk as a climate-controlled cabinet.
Missing a scheduled check
What it means: The correct recovery depends on the manual and the present charge, not on a universal catch-up procedure.
What to do: Check the displayed percentage and follow the next required charge or cycle in the model’s instructions. For a C1000/C1000X, the cited guide says to fully charge if the weekly check finds less than 30%. For another model, use its own threshold and interval.
Assuming a warranty condition is brand-wide
Why it is misleading: The six-month charge/discharge condition cited for the E980 is a clause in that model’s manual.
What to do: Read the warranty and storage language for the exact model and sales region. Do not apply the E980 condition to another product without written confirmation.

- Refresh or cycle completed only as directed.
- Before emergency use, displayed charge and basic operation confirmed according to the manual.
Bottom line for dependable storage
Portable power stations last between uses when they are switched off, kept dry and cool, and checked before they are forgotten. The critical decision is not finding a universal percentage; it is following the exact model’s charge target, interval, temperature limits and any warranty condition. Keep the station out of prolonged empty storage, avoid hot vehicles and damp spaces, and treat every model-specific instruction—especially an unusual 0%-then-recharge cycle—as limited to the product and manual that published it.
