Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFirst check what appears on your iPhone: a notification that offers to open an app or link may be caused by background NFC tag reading, while a Home accessory panel or Dynamic Island hint may be a separate, recently reported proximity-control feature. The fix depends on which one you are seeing. For a possible NFC notification, turning the screen off is a quick test; for a Home accessory prompt, inspect that accessory’s settings in the Home app for a proximity-control option.
“LG device” is not specific enough to identify the cause. A phone, tag, television, appliance, or smart-home accessory can involve different features. Start with the alert itself, then record the iPhone model, iOS version, exact LG product model, and whether the iPhone’s screen was on. These details help you choose a relevant check instead of changing unrelated settings.

Identify the kind of prompt before changing settings
“My iPhone reacts near an LG device” can describe more than one behavior. The alert’s wording and appearance are the best first clues, but they do not prove the cause. Note the iPhone model and iOS version, the exact LG product model, and whether the iPhone display was on and had been unlocked before the alert appeared.

| What appears on the iPhone | Possible explanation | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| A notification offering to open an app or supported link | Background NFC tag reading is consistent with this type of notification. | Check the screen state and the NFC reading conditions below. |
| A Home accessory panel, Dynamic Island hint, or “Open Controls” prompt | A proximity-control feature for certain Apple/LG smart-home accessories was reported on October 9, 2026. | Open the Home app and inspect the relevant accessory’s settings. |
The second explanation has a different evidence status from the first. Apple documents background tag reading, while the Home proximity behavior is described in a secondary report based on software-code findings. It should not be assumed to exist on every iPhone, iOS version, or LG product.

Think of the alert type as a sorting clue, not a verdict. An app or web-link notification points toward a tag-reading explanation; a control panel tied to an accessory points toward a Home-related explanation. If the screen does not clearly fit either description, save the exact wording or icon and compare it with the behavior on another occasion. Do not assume that an LG logo on the nearby product proves it sent the prompt.
If the iPhone shows an app or link notification
How background NFC reading works
Apple says iPhone XS and later can read compatible NFC tags in the background. When the iPhone detects one, it can display a notification; tapping it passes the tag data to an app or opens a supported link. This is not the same as an iPhone automatically opening every nearby LG device. NFC is a short-range technology: Apple’s interface guidance describes devices within “a few centimeters” exchanging information wirelessly, but that general description is not a guaranteed detection distance for every phone or tag. Apple’s background tag-reading documentation and NFC interface guidance explain these behaviors.
The distinction between reading a tag and opening something matters. The documented behavior is that a compatible tag can prompt the iPhone with a notification. The user taps that notification to pass its data to an app or open a supported link. A notification appearing near an LG product does not, by itself, establish that the phone connected to the product, that the product has NFC, or that the link is safe to open.
Apple’s general NFC range description is deliberately broad. “A few centimeters” is not a model-specific measurement and does not promise that a tag will always be detected at a certain distance. The physical position of the phone, the tag, and the product may matter, but the cited documentation does not provide a dependable detection distance for a particular LG product. If you want to test whether proximity is relevant, note when the prompt appears and whether it recurs when the phone is moved away; do not treat that observation alone as proof of the underlying technology.
Conditions that affect background reading
For background reading, Apple says the display must be on and the iPhone must have been unlocked at least once. Background tag reading is unavailable before the first unlock, during an active Core NFC reader session, while Apple Pay Wallet is in use, while the camera is in use, and in Airplane Mode. These conditions help narrow down the cause; they are not all practical permanent settings to change.
“Unlocked at least once” refers to whether the phone has been unlocked since it was started, not necessarily whether it is unlocked at the exact moment you see a notification. The display-on condition and first-unlock condition are useful when reconstructing an event: a tag notification that arrives with the screen lit after the phone has been unlocked at least once is consistent with the documented feature. If the display was off, or the phone had never been unlocked, background tag reading is a less fitting explanation under Apple’s stated conditions.
The exclusions are useful as diagnostic context, but they should not be confused with a set of recommended everyday workarounds. For example, using Apple Pay or the camera just to suppress a notification can obstruct the feature you actually need. An active reader session is also not a general-purpose disable control. Airplane Mode is the clearest temporary test listed by Apple, but it affects wireless connections as well as background tag reading.

Try the least disruptive test first
- Turn the display off. If the alert stops appearing when the screen is off, that is consistent with Apple’s documented display-on condition for background reading. It is a temporary way to avoid that scan condition, not a global NFC setting.
- Use Airplane Mode as a diagnostic test if needed. Apple lists Airplane Mode as a state in which background tag reading is unavailable. If the behavior stops in Airplane Mode, that supports—but does not by itself prove—the NFC explanation. Airplane Mode also cuts off wireless connections, so it is usually unsuitable as a lasting workaround.
- Compare the prompt and circumstances. Record whether the iPhone was already unlocked, whether its screen was illuminated, and the exact notification text or icon. If the prompt is instead a Home control or Dynamic Island hint, follow the Home accessory steps below.
Make one change at a time while testing. If you turn on Airplane Mode and move the phone away from the LG product at the same time, you will not know which change coincided with the alert stopping. A simple test is to note the prompt, turn the display off, and observe whether the prompt is avoided under that condition. If you need to test Airplane Mode, do it separately and remember that the result is evidence, not confirmation of cause.
Apple does not document an iPhone-wide NFC off switch in the sources cited here. Do not assume there is a single system setting that disables every NFC-related behavior. If you cannot find a general NFC control in Settings, that does not mean you have missed a standard, documented toggle; the cited Apple material describes background reading conditions rather than a universal off switch.

If a Home control or proximity hint appears
Inspect the accessory in Home
A MacRumors report dated October 9, 2026 says certain Apple/LG smart-home accessories may show a Dynamic Island hint or notification with an “Open Controls” action when an iPhone is brought near them. The report attributes the feature details to software-code findings shared by a leaker and says users can disable the behavior in the Home app after setup. It does not establish that the behavior is available for existing LG products generally. Read the October 9 report.
- Open the Home app.
- Select the accessory that appears to be triggering the prompt.
- Open that accessory’s settings and look for a proximity-control option; turn it off if the option is present and you want to stop the prompt.
The exact switch name and tap sequence are not confirmed in Apple’s opened iOS 27 Home accessory guide. The option’s label and availability may depend on the software version and accessory. If you cannot find it, do not assume your iPhone or accessory is faulty: the reported behavior and its setting are not documented as universal or settled.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →In practice, treat this as an accessory-specific setting to look for, not as a guaranteed menu path. First make sure you are viewing the accessory that corresponds to the prompt rather than another item in the Home app. Then inspect its settings for a control that refers to proximity. If there is no such option, the available documentation does not support inventing an alternate sequence of taps or claiming that a particular menu label should be present.
The report describes the control as something users can disable after setup. That does not establish that every owner can use the feature now, that all LG smart-home accessories support it, or that the control appears in the same place across software versions. The Apple Home guide covers accessory controls generally but does not document the reported proximity switch. If the prompt began after a software change, note the iOS version and accessory model along with the alert; those details are more useful than assuming the behavior is part of ordinary NFC tag reading.
Why “LG” alone does not identify the cause
LG makes different kinds of products, and the brand name alone does not tell you whether an NFC tag, a smart-home accessory, or another interaction is involved. LG’s cited user guide describes NFC features for particular LG phone models. That is evidence that some LG phones support NFC interaction, not evidence that every LG television, phone, or appliance can trigger an iPhone notification. LG’s model-specific user guide should not be generalized to unrelated products.
Identify the exact product rather than diagnosing by logo. A phone or tag that supports NFC is a different troubleshooting lead from a smart-home accessory associated with a Home control. If you do not know the model, look for its model information on the product or in its documentation before drawing a conclusion.
This is especially important if the nearby item is a television or appliance. The cited LG manual is specific to certain phone models; it does not establish that those other product categories use the same feature or can trigger an iPhone notification. Likewise, the October 2026 report concerns certain Apple/LG smart-home accessories and does not establish a general feature across LG’s product line. Avoid transferring a claim about one device type to another just because both carry the same brand.
When describing the issue to someone helping you troubleshoot, separate what you observed from what you suspect. “A notification appeared while the screen was on next to this model” is an observation. “The LG television’s NFC caused it” is a conclusion that the available facts may not support. That distinction can prevent you from spending time on settings that do not match the prompt.
A practical troubleshooting sequence
- Capture the interface. Write down the alert’s exact words and note whether it is a link/app notification, a Home accessory panel, a Dynamic Island hint, or an “Open Controls” prompt. A screenshot can help if it does not expose private information.
- Record the conditions. Note the iPhone model, iOS version, whether the display was on, and whether the phone had been unlocked at least once. Record the exact LG product model as well.
- Test a likely NFC notification. Turn the screen off and see whether the behavior is avoided. If the result is unclear, Airplane Mode can test Apple’s documented NFC exclusion, with the trade-off that wireless connections are cut off.
- Inspect a likely Home prompt. In Home, select the relevant accessory and inspect its settings for the reported proximity-control option. Its presence and wording are not established for every software version or device.
- Keep the two explanations separate. If the prompt is still ambiguous, do not infer that the LG product caused it just because the events happen near each other. Use the recorded model, software version, prompt, and screen state when seeking device-specific help.
A useful way to apply the sequence is to begin with the simplest observation. If the phone presents a notification that offers an app or link, follow the NFC branch. Check whether the iPhone is an XS or later and whether the display is on after the phone has been unlocked at least once. Then use the screen-off test before considering a broader interruption such as Airplane Mode.

If you instead see a Home-oriented panel, Dynamic Island hint, or “Open Controls” action, do not spend time trying to suppress it with NFC conditions. Check the Home app for the particular accessory and look for the reported proximity option. Because the exact setting is not confirmed in Apple’s guide, the absence of a visible option is not evidence that the phone is broken.
If neither pattern fits, the next useful step is better identification, not a speculative fix. Preserve the alert text or icon, exact product model, iOS version, and display state. Repeating the observation under similar conditions can help establish what reliably precedes the prompt, but proximity alone does not prove which mechanism is responsible.
Workarounds that are not established fixes
The documented options here are identifying the prompt, testing the conditions for background tag reading, and checking Home accessory settings where applicable. The cited sources do not establish that removing a case, buying an NFC-blocking product, replacing a component, or repairing the iPhone will stop this behavior. A purchase is not shown to be necessary.
Likewise, keeping the camera open, using Apple Pay, or starting an NFC reader session would place the phone in a state Apple lists as incompatible with background tag reading, but those are not sensible permanent remedies. They can interfere with the activity you actually want to use and do not address a Home accessory proximity prompt.
There is also no basis here for buying a replacement iPhone or LG product simply because a prompt appears nearby. The supported first steps are software and identification checks: establish which interface appears, determine which product is involved, and use the relevant documented condition or setting. A shield, special case, replacement component, or repair tool is not shown to be required or reliably effective.

Do not treat a successful temporary test as a permanent fix without considering its cost. Turning the screen off avoids the documented display-on scan condition, but it is inconvenient if you need to use the phone. Airplane Mode can prevent background tag reading, but it cuts off wireless connections. The Home setting, if available for the particular accessory and software, is the more targeted path for the reported Home prompt.
What to do if the prompt continues
If the iPhone keeps reacting after you have identified the prompt and tried the relevant check, preserve the details rather than trying unrelated fixes. For a device-specific support request, provide the exact alert wording or icon, iPhone model, iOS version, LG product model, and whether the display was on and the phone had already been unlocked. Those facts help distinguish documented background NFC reading from the separately reported Home behavior without treating all LG products as equivalent.
Include what you tested and what happened. For example, say whether turning off the display prevented the notification, whether Airplane Mode changed the result, or whether you found a proximity setting in the accessory’s Home controls. Keep the observations precise: a test that coincides with a prompt disappearing can help narrow the possibilities, but it may not establish the cause on its own.
If the Home app does not show a proximity option, report that rather than guessing at another setting. The reported feature’s availability and exact control are not confirmed as universal. If the notification is an app or link alert, include its exact text and whether it appeared with the screen on; Apple’s background-reading documentation makes those conditions relevant to identifying the behavior.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my iPhone pop up when I bring it near my LG device?
It depends on the pop-up. An app or link notification is consistent with background NFC tag reading on iPhone XS and later when the display is on and the phone has been unlocked at least once. A Home accessory panel, Dynamic Island hint, or “Open Controls” action may instead match the proximity-control behavior reported for certain Apple/LG smart-home accessories in October 2026. The exact LG model and alert matter; the brand alone does not identify the cause.
How do I stop my iPhone from opening something when it is near an LG device?
If it is a conventional NFC notification, turn the display off as a quick test because Apple documents background tag reading when the display is on. Airplane Mode is another diagnostic option, but it cuts off wireless connections. If the prompt is a Home control, inspect the relevant accessory in the Home app for a proximity-control option. Apple does not document a universal iPhone-wide NFC off switch in the cited material.
Does every LG product trigger iPhone NFC notifications?
No. The cited LG user guide describes NFC features for specific LG phone models; it is not evidence that every LG phone, television, or appliance can trigger an iPhone notification. A separate October 2026 report discusses proximity controls for certain Apple/LG smart-home accessories, not all LG products. Identify the precise model before choosing a troubleshooting path.
Which iPhones support background NFC tag reading?
Apple’s background tag-reading documentation says iPhone XS and later support the feature. That does not mean every nearby product will produce a notification: the tag must be compatible, and Apple’s stated operating conditions include an illuminated display and the phone having been unlocked at least once.
Can I turn NFC off completely in iPhone Settings?
Apple’s cited documentation does not describe an iPhone-wide NFC off switch. It explains when background tag reading is available and when it is unavailable. Turning the display off avoids the documented display-on scan condition; Airplane Mode also prevents background reading but has broader connectivity consequences.
Will turning on Airplane Mode prove that NFC caused the alert?
No. Apple lists Airplane Mode as a state in which background tag reading is unavailable, so a change during that test supports the NFC possibility. It does not prove the cause, and Airplane Mode also cuts off wireless connections. Use the alert’s appearance, phone conditions, and product model as additional clues.
What if I cannot find the proximity-control setting in Home?
The October 9, 2026 report says the behavior can be disabled in Home after setup, but Apple’s opened iOS 27 guide does not document the exact switch or tap sequence. The option’s label and availability may depend on software version and accessory. Its absence does not by itself show that the iPhone or accessory is faulty.
Should I buy an NFC-blocking case or shield?
The cited sources do not establish that a case, shield, replacement component, or repair will stop either behavior. First identify whether you are seeing an NFC notification or a Home control and try the relevant software check. No purchase is shown to be necessary.
