If unwanted WhatsApp messages are coming from your Google Business Profile, remove or change the WhatsApp contact option in the profile. To stop a particular sender, block them in WhatsApp. Reporting asks WhatsApp to review an account but does not, by itself, prevent more messages.
First identify where the messages are coming from
If a customer found your number through a Google Search or Maps listing, the listing may have a WhatsApp chat option that opens a conversation with your business. WhatsApp says a link added to a Google Business Profile can create a click-to-chat button in Search and Maps results (WhatsApp: How to create a link to your WhatsApp from your Google Business Profile).

Google’s current help guidance says claimed and verified Business Profiles can add WhatsApp or text contact options, but availability is limited to select regions. If both WhatsApp and text options are added, Google says only the text option will be shown (Google Business Profile Help: Chat with customers from your Business Profile).

- Open the business’s Google Business Profile.
- Select Edit profile, then Contact.
- Under Chat, select Edit.
- Remove the WhatsApp option or replace it with another supported contact route, then save the change.
This changes how prospective customers can start a conversation from the listing. It does not block people who already have the number or prevent them from contacting the business through another route. The Chat option may be absent if it is not available for your region or profile.

Block a customer who keeps messaging
To stop messages and calls from one WhatsApp account, open the conversation or the sender’s information and choose Block. WhatsApp says a blocked account cannot send your account messages or calls. Blocking does not delete the chat or remove the number from your phone contacts; archive or delete the conversation separately if you do not want it in your chat list. Save screenshots or a chat backup first if you may need a record (WhatsApp: How to block and report someone).
A blocked person may still appear in a WhatsApp group that you both share, and their messages may remain visible there. WhatsApp says you cannot block a group itself. You can leave it, block its admin, or adjust group privacy settings to limit who can add you.

Report suspicious or abusive messages separately
If the messages are spam, abusive, fraudulent, or otherwise problematic, report the sender in WhatsApp. The in-app reporting flow can also let you block the account. WhatsApp says a report may include up to five recent messages and information about the account or group, and the reported user or group is not notified. A report requests review; it does not guarantee that WhatsApp will take action (WhatsApp: About reporting and blocking on WhatsApp).
Reporting alone does not block the sender. If you want to stop that account from contacting you, block it as well. For immediate danger or a suspected crime, contact local emergency services or authorities; retain relevant screenshots or a backup where appropriate.

Use the unknown-account setting only for unusually high message volumes
WhatsApp has an advanced Block unknown account messages setting for unusually high volumes of messages from unknown accounts. It is not a blanket filter for every person who is not saved in your contacts. WhatsApp says normal contact can resume when message rates return to normal (WhatsApp: How to stay safe on WhatsApp).
WhatsApp may show context for a first-time message from an unsaved number, such as shared groups and the country where the number is registered. Use that context to decide whether to add the sender, block them, or report them.

Choose the control that matches the problem

Keep the personal number off a public listing
If you want to keep WhatsApp available to customers without publishing your personal number, consider using a separate business number. A separate or dual-SIM phone is one way to manage that boundary, but it is optional and will not stop messages sent to a number already in circulation. Before updating the listing, check that the number works with WhatsApp Business and that the relevant Google contact option is available in your region.

Do not confuse the current WhatsApp route with Google’s retired chat inbox
Google ended the former Business Profile chat and call-history features on July 31, 2024 (Google Business Profile Help: Changes to Google Business Profile chat and call history). That change is separate from eligible businesses offering customers a WhatsApp or text contact option on a listing. If a customer’s message opens in WhatsApp, manage the listing route in the profile and the sender in WhatsApp.
