For one unwanted game, open its Steam store page or recommendation card and select Ignore. Valve says an ignored product is removed from future recommendations and featured spots. If the problem is a whole type of game, use Steam’s tag exclusions and Discovery Queue preferences instead. Hide in Library only cleans up your owned-game list, while Private controls what other people can see about your ownership and activity; neither is the documented control for changing store recommendations.
These settings reduce unwanted suggestions in the Steam surfaces they cover. They are not a promise that every storefront panel, manually curated list, or recommendation system will be completely cleared.

Choose the control that matches the problem
Steam has separate controls for recommendation filtering, Library organization, and privacy. Picking the wrong one can make a game disappear from your Library without changing what the store suggests, or hide your ownership from friends without affecting recommendations.
| What you want to change | Use this control | Scope | What it is not |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stop seeing one particular title in discovery areas | Ignore | That product, including a product shown in the Discovery Queue | Not a Library-organization or privacy setting |
| Reduce repeated suggestions for a genre, theme, or other category | Tag exclusions and Discovery Queue preferences | Applicable store-discovery controls for selected tags and ignored products | Not a guarantee for every Steam storefront panel |
| Remove an owned game from your own client view | Hide in Library | Your personal Library display | Not the documented Ignore action for store recommendations |
| Limit what other users can see | Mark as Private | Ownership and activity visibility in the places Steam specifies | Not a recommendation filter |
Ignore a specific game
Use Ignore when a single title keeps appearing and you do not want Steam to use it as a visible discovery option.

- [Deep Bass with Clear Vocals] High-performance drivers produce punchy bass while keeping vocals clean and detailed for everyday listening.
- Open the title. Find the game on the Steam Store, or open the recommendation card where Steam presents it. A game in the Discovery Queue can also be handled this way.
- Select Ignore. Use the Ignore control on the product or recommendation. Valve’s Steam Discovery Update describes this as the way to tell Steam that you are not interested.
- Continue browsing. The ignored product is excluded from future recommendations and featured spots according to Valve’s product documentation.
The Ignore action applies to the product you select. It is therefore the right first step when the unwanted suggestion is a particular sequel, franchise entry, or other one-off title rather than an entire category.
“If you see a title you are not interested in, just click the ‘Ignore’ button and Steam won’t show that item to you in the future.”
Valve, Steam Discovery Update
If the Ignore control is not visible
- Open the full store page rather than a compact image or promotional tile; controls can be presented differently in different recommendation layouts.
- Try the product in the Discovery Queue, where Valve says ignored products are supported.
- Check that you are signed in to the Steam account whose recommendations you want to change.
- Update or restart the Steam client if a page appears incomplete, then check the title again.
Steam’s interface changes over time, so the control may move even though the underlying Ignore feature remains documented.

Ignoring dozens of individual titles is inefficient when the same unwanted genre or theme keeps returning. Steam’s Discovery Update 2.0 documentation describes store-discovery filters for tags and for products marked ignored.

- Open the Discovery Queue or its preference controls. Use the current Steam Store interface to reach the Discovery Queue settings.
- Review tag exclusions. Select tags that describe the kinds of games you do not want included in discovery suggestions.
- Save the preference and revisit the queue. The queue should reflect the exclusions in the discovery areas governed by those settings.
- Ignore exceptions individually. If a game still appears because it carries several tags, use Ignore on that product as well.
Tag filtering is broader than ignoring one product, but it depends on the tags Steam assigns and on the surface using those discovery preferences. A title with a mixed tag set may not be removed if only one of its tags is excluded, and a manually curated promotion may not obey the same filter.
What Discovery Queue preferences cover
The Discovery Queue is a store-discovery mechanism, not a master switch for every recommendation module in Steam. Valve describes its preferences as filters for discovery, including tag exclusions and ignored products. Apply them when the unwanted suggestions are appearing in the queue or related store discovery areas.
Do not treat an empty or improved queue as proof that every Steam surface has been changed. Store pages can contain editorial or promotional areas, and Steam uses multiple discovery mechanisms. The documented behavior supports a reduction in applicable recommendations, not a guarantee that no reference to a title will ever appear again.
Why a game can still be suggested
Different storefront surfaces use different rules
Steam does not present recommendations through one single list. The Discovery Queue, recommendation cards, featured spots, and other storefront areas can have different coverage. Valve’s documentation specifically describes Ignore and tag controls for store discovery; it does not promise identical behavior for every panel or manually selected list.

The Interactive Recommender is an additional system
Valve describes the Interactive Recommender as an additional recommendation system that uses play patterns. That means your gameplay history can influence suggestions separately from the explicit Ignore and tag controls. Those controls remain the appropriate way to reduce unwanted products where they apply, but they should not be described as a universal reset of every recommendation signal.
New releases have a special limitation
Valve says the Interactive Recommender cannot recommend a new release that nobody has played yet. This is a limitation of that particular system, not a promise that a newly released game cannot appear in a storefront promotion or another discovery area.
Hide a game in your Library only when organization is the goal
Steam Support distinguishes hiding a game in the Library from ignoring a product in the store. The Library option prevents the game from appearing to you in the client’s normal Library view, which is useful for separating unwanted, mature, or rarely used entries from the games you browse regularly.
- Open your Library. Locate the owned game you want out of the normal Library view.
- Open the game’s context menu. Choose the current Hide or Hide in Library command. Steam’s wording and menu placement can change between client versions.
- Confirm the change. The title is removed from the ordinary Library presentation for your account.
Hiding is a personal organization action. Steam’s support documentation does not state that it changes recommendation signals, so use Ignore for a store product you do not want recommended.

Find or unhide a hidden game
If a game seems to have vanished from your collection, Steam Support’s missing-games guidance explains how to view hidden titles and remove the hidden status. Use that recovery path when you need to install, launch, or manage a game you previously hid.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use Private for visibility to other people
Marking a game Private addresses a different concern: what other users can see about your ownership and activity. Steam Support contrasts private games with hidden Library games. Private status can limit visibility in the places Steam specifies, but it is not documented as a way to alter the recommendations shown to you.
Choose Private when you want to control the social visibility of a game. Choose Ignore when you want to change your own store-discovery experience. You may use both for the same title because they solve separate problems.
A practical cleanup workflow
Use this order when your Steam Store feels dominated by unwanted games:
Best Value
- Start with individual Ignore actions. Mark each clearly unwanted title as ignored as you encounter it.
- Look for a common tag. If several unwanted games share a genre or theme, add that tag to your Discovery Queue exclusions.
- Check the affected surface. Note whether the suggestion came from the Discovery Queue, a recommendation card, a featured area, or your Library. Apply the control designed for that surface.
- Organize owned games separately. Hide Library entries only if you want a cleaner personal collection view.
- Set privacy separately. Mark a game Private only when the issue is visibility to other users.
This sequence prevents a common mistake: hiding every unwanted game in the Library and expecting the Store to stop mentioning it.
Troubleshooting persistent recommendations
An ignored title appears again in a different place
Confirm that you used the product’s Ignore control rather than a Library Hide command. Then identify the surface showing the title. Valve’s wording covers future recommendations and featured spots for ignored products, while the documentation does not guarantee that every manually curated or independently generated panel follows the same rule.
Several games from the same genre remain
Check the tags assigned to those games and add the relevant unwanted tags to the Discovery Queue preferences. Because tag filtering depends on product metadata, one title may remain if it lacks the excluded tag or is categorized differently.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The Library is clean, but the Store is not
That result is expected when you used Hide in Library. Restore the store-side control by opening the product or recommendation and selecting Ignore; Library visibility and store recommendations are separate functions.
Friends can still see a game
Library Hide does not replace privacy controls. If the concern is ownership or activity visible to other users, review the game’s Private setting and the visibility locations covered by Steam Support’s privacy guidance.
A recommendation seems unrelated to your settings
Steam can combine explicit preferences with play-pattern recommendations and other discovery presentations. Recheck the product’s tags, ignore the individual title, and treat the result as a limitation of coverage rather than evidence that the Ignore setting was never saved.
Quick Recap
Keep the settings maintainable
- Ignore as you browse. Applying the control when an unwanted title first appears is easier than trying to remember a long list later.
- Use tags for patterns, not exceptions. Exclude a recurring category, then handle unusual titles one at a time.
- Do not hide games as a recommendation workaround. Reserve Library Hide for the visual organization of your collection.
- Review after major client changes. Valve’s documentation describes the feature behavior, but exact labels and storefront coverage can change as Steam is updated.
Key limitations to keep in mind
- Valve’s Ignore documentation is about excluding a product from future recommendations and featured spots; it is not a guarantee that every Steam surface will omit all references.
- Tag exclusions and Discovery Queue preferences apply to the discovery controls Valve documents, not necessarily to every editorial or manually curated storefront module.
- Library Hide changes your client organization, and Steam Support does not say it changes recommendation signals.
- Private changes visibility to other users, not the suggestions you receive.
- The Interactive Recommender uses play patterns and has its own limitation around releases that nobody has played yet.
