In the Meta AI app, open your connected glasses, go to Glasses privacy, and switch Cloud media off. Then disable Meta AI or Camera use if you do not want visual questions to send images to Meta’s cloud, turn off Respond without “Hey Meta” to remove the post-command listening window, and review Voice activity log to delete recordings already listed there.
These settings reduce different kinds of data sharing; no single switch covers every camera, microphone, call, messaging, or account feature. Labels and availability can vary with glasses model, firmware, country, and Meta AI app version.

What your glasses can upload
Privacy controls make more sense when you separate ordinary camera captures from cloud-powered features. A photo saved to the glasses or phone is a different path from an image sent to a server so an AI system can answer a question. Voice commands, follow-up listening, calls, and activity history are separate again.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Ordinary photos and videos: Cloud media controls whether routine media uses the documented cloud-processing path.
- Visual AI questions: Asking Meta AI what you are looking at sends a photo to Meta’s cloud for AI processing. Ray-Ban states this directly in its official FAQ.
- Voice queries: A spoken command is processed so the assistant can respond. If “Respond without ‘Hey Meta’” is enabled, the microphones remain available briefly after the command and follow-up speech can be recorded and processed.
- Voice history: The app’s Voice activity log contains entries that you can inspect and delete, but deleting an entry there should not be treated as proof that every copy in every service or backup system has been erased.
- Calls and other explicitly started audio: Turning off a post-command listening option does not necessarily disable microphone use for calls or another feature that you deliberately start.
The instructions below use the current Meta AI app terminology where it is documented. If your app uses a slightly different label, look for the equivalent privacy, AI, camera, voice, or activity setting rather than assuming the feature is absent.

Turn off cloud media for routine captures
Exact path
- Open the Meta AI app and make sure the glasses are connected.
- Open the device settings for the connected glasses.
- Choose Glasses privacy, or the equivalent privacy menu shown by your app version.
- Switch Cloud media off.
Current how-to reporting describes this switch as keeping photos and videos on the device instead of sending them to Meta servers for cloud processing through the cloud-media path. This is the first setting to change if your concern is routine media uploads.
What Cloud media does not do
- It does not retroactively erase photos or videos that were already uploaded.
- It does not necessarily disable every sharing, messaging, gallery-sync, or export action that you start separately.
- It does not by itself prevent a visual AI request from uploading an image. Visual questions have their own documented cloud-processing path.
After changing the switch, avoid assuming that every copy has vanished from your phone, account, conversations, or a recipient’s device. The setting controls the documented future cloud-media route; it is not a universal deletion command.
Block visual AI from sending what the camera sees
Why a visual question uploads an image
Ray-Ban’s official FAQ says: “When you ask Meta AI questions about what you’re looking at, your glasses will send a photo to Meta’s cloud to be processed with AI.” A question such as asking what object is in front of you therefore creates an image-upload event even if you have disabled routine Cloud media processing.
Disable the documented visual-AI paths
- In the Meta AI app, open the settings for your connected glasses.
- Open the Meta AI preferences or privacy controls.
- Turn off Meta AI if you want to disable the assistant feature as a whole.
- If your app presents a separate switch, turn off Camera use as well. This removes the documented camera path used for visual AI questions.
The official FAQ documents both Meta AI and Camera use toggles. Exact labels can differ by software version, so check that the switch visibly shows the disabled state before leaving the page.

Trade-off
Disabling Meta AI removes the assistant capability rather than merely making it local. Disabling Camera use blocks the visual route but may leave other non-visual assistant functions available, depending on the model and app build. If your requirement is that no visual question can be sent for processing, turn off every relevant Meta AI and Camera use control your app exposes.
Reduce unintended voice capture
Turn off follow-up listening
- Open the Meta AI app with the glasses connected.
- Go to Hey Meta preferences (the wording may vary).
- Turn off Respond without “Hey Meta”.
Ray-Ban explains that when this option is on, the glasses listen briefly after each voice command. If you start talking during those few seconds, the glasses can record and process that audio. Turning the option off removes that short post-command window.
Disable voice activation when available
Some software versions expose a separate voice-activation or Voice toggle. Turn that off if you do not want the glasses waiting for a spoken wake phrase. This is a stronger restriction than removing only the follow-up window, but it can also remove hands-free voice commands. The setting does not necessarily disable microphone use for phone calls or another feature that you explicitly initiate.

Use deliberate speech
When voice activation remains enabled, wait until the command has finished and the response is complete before discussing sensitive information near the glasses. Do not treat the absence of a visible response as proof that no audio was processed; use the activity log to check what the app recorded.

Review and delete recordings in Voice activity log
- Open the Meta AI app and select the connected glasses.
- Enter Glasses privacy.
- Open Voice activity log.
- Review the listed recordings or voice events.
- Delete the entries you do not want retained, using the delete control shown by the app.
Current reporting identifies this location for inspecting and deleting recordings. The log is an account-facing management tool: deletion removes entries available through that interface. It does not establish that every backup, audit record, diagnostic copy, or service-side retention layer has been removed.
If you need to preserve evidence of an unexpected recording before deleting it, note the date and time and capture the app’s displayed details first. Otherwise, delete the entry and then revisit the log to confirm that it no longer appears.
Use the capture LED as an immediate signal
Meta says each pair of its AI glasses has a white external capture LED that blinks to signify that content is being captured for the wearer’s gallery. Treat that light as the immediate social and physical signal that the camera is active.
- Before entering a sensitive room, look for the capture indicator and stop taking media if it is blinking.
- For situations where camera activity is unacceptable, power the glasses off rather than relying only on app settings.
- Do not cover, tamper with, or disable the LED as a workaround. Meta states that disabling or tampering with the capture LED disables the camera.
The LED indicates camera capture; it is not a complete indicator of every microphone, call, or network event. A dark LED should not be interpreted as proof that no audio feature is active.

A complete privacy lockdown workflow
Use this sequence when you want the strongest practical reduction in cloud media, visual AI, and voice-query processing while retaining the option to restore features later.
- Connect and identify the device. In the Meta AI app, confirm that the intended glasses are connected and note any firmware or app update that may have changed menu names.
- Disable Cloud media. Open device settings, choose Glasses privacy, and switch Cloud media off.
- Block visual AI. In Meta AI settings, turn off Meta AI and Camera use if both controls are present.
- Stop post-command listening. In Hey Meta preferences, turn off Respond without “Hey Meta.”
- Turn off voice activation. If the app exposes a separate Voice or voice-activation switch and you do not need hands-free commands, disable it.
- Clean the history. Open Voice activity log, inspect entries, and delete recordings you do not want retained.
- Check the physical state. For a sensitive conversation or location, power the glasses off. When the glasses are on, watch the capture LED before and during any camera use.
- Recheck after updates. Reopen these menus after a firmware or app update because labels, defaults, and feature availability can change.
This workflow favors privacy over convenience. Turning off Meta AI, camera use, or voice activation removes the associated feature until you enable it again.

Troubleshooting when uploads or recordings continue
The Cloud media switch is missing
Confirm that the glasses are connected, update the Meta AI app through your normal app store, and look under the connected-device privacy menu rather than general account settings. The name and placement can vary by model, firmware, and country. If the control still does not appear, use the equivalent privacy menu shown for your device and do not assume that another switch has the same effect.

You hear a response after disabling follow-up listening
Verify that Respond without “Hey Meta” is off and check for a separate Voice or voice-activation toggle. A phone call, an explicitly initiated command, or another audio feature can still use the microphone because the follow-up setting is not a universal microphone kill switch.
A recording remains in the log
Return to Glasses privacy, open Voice activity log, and use the entry’s delete control. Refresh the page or reopen the app to verify the display. If the entry is gone from the log, that confirms the interface deletion; it does not prove that all service-side copies have been removed.
The camera activates unexpectedly
Look at the external capture LED, stop the current action, and power the glasses off in a sensitive setting. Check whether a camera shortcut, voice command, or visual AI feature was triggered. A reported October 2026 incident described complaints about unexpected voice recordings and was said to be resolved by Meta; that report is not proof that all glasses record unexpectedly.

- Settings are version-dependent. Meta and Ray-Ban can rename controls, change defaults, or vary availability by geography and firmware.
- Cloud controls are path-specific. Cloud media off addresses the documented routine media path, not every possible transfer created by sharing, messaging, account synchronization, or another feature.
- AI needs server processing for the documented visual feature. A visual question sends a photo to Meta’s cloud; disabling the relevant feature is the reliable way to prevent that path.
- History deletion has a narrow scope. Removing a Voice activity log entry is not a guarantee about every copy held in a service, backup, audit, or legal-retention system.
- The LED is a camera cue, not a complete privacy dashboard. It signals camera capture and provides a visible social safeguard, but it does not describe every microphone or network event.
For the strictest privacy requirement, combine app-level restrictions with powering the glasses off when they are not needed. Recheck the controls whenever the app or glasses firmware changes.
