To stop friends from seeing the Pokémon you have recently caught, open Pokémon GO’s Settings and turn off the option that shows recently caught Pokémon to friends. That hides catch visibility on your friend-list profile. It does not change your Campfire posts, gift or trade exposure, or online status, which are controlled separately and covered below.
Turn off catch visibility in Pokémon GO
Friends can see your Trainer profile in Pokémon GO, and that profile includes your most recently caught Pokémon. The official Pokémon GO Help Center confirms that this visibility can be disabled in Settings. It does not name the exact sub-menu, so the steps below describe the general route and what to look for.

- Open Pokémon GO and go to Settings.
- Look for the toggle that controls showing recently caught Pokémon to friends. Some players report this toggle under Settings > General, but menu labels can differ between app versions, so check the screen you actually see.
- Switch the option off and go back to your profile to confirm the change.
Once the toggle is off, your friends no longer see your recent catches on your profile. Existing friendships stay intact, and nothing else about your account changes.
What this setting does and does not control
Catch visibility is only one of several ways friends can learn about your activity. The table below separates the surfaces, who can see them, and which control governs each one.
#1 Best Overall
- The packaging is Japanese, but item works the same as the US version.
- Catch Pokémon and track your rest rhythm with the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory!
- Keep track of your sleep with the press of a button
- Press and hold the central button on the Pokémon GO Plus + accessory and place it by your pillow to track your rest rhythm on the Pokémon Sleep app
- There’s a Pikachu within your Pokémon GO Plus + that can sing you lullabies and act as your morning alarm; Pikachu grows friendlier the more you sleep, unlocking even more sounds!
| Surface | Who can see it | Controlled by | Affected by the catch-visibility toggle? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recently caught Pokémon on your friend-list profile | Your friends | Pokémon GO Settings toggle | Yes |
| Campfire Catch & Share post | The audience chosen for that post | Audience selector on each post | No |
| Location shared through a Gift or trade | The other player in the exchange | Not stated as a separate toggle in official help | No |
| Online status | Friends, when both players have set themselves online | Separate online status setting | No |
In practice, turning off catch visibility limits only the friend-list profile. If your concern is location, Campfire posts and gifts or trades need their own review.
Hide catch locations on Campfire posts
Campfire Catch & Share is a separate feature with its own privacy choice. When you post a catch card, you choose who can see it. According to the Pokémon GO support article on Campfire, a post set to Only me does not show the catch location to anyone on the Campfire map. Friends-only and public posts show the location to the audience you selected.

- Spin PokéStops or throw Poké Balls automatically in Pokémon GO for hands-free gameplay (and Great Balls and Ultra Balls can be thrown too!)
Check the audience before you publish. A post made earlier with a wider audience keeps that audience, so review older posts you still want to limit.
Child accounts managed through Pokémon Trainer Central
If the account belongs to a child, a parent manages social permissions through Pokémon Trainer Central rather than in the child’s game settings.

- Sign in to Pokémon Trainer Central as the parent account holder.
- Open the child’s profile.
- Select Pokémon GO under Apps & Games.
- Adjust the options under Permissions for Your Child.
Be deliberate with the friends setting. Pokémon GO support notes that disabling Friends and Related Features through the parent portal permanently removes all friends from the child’s in-game Friend List. This is not a temporary pause, so consider a narrower change first if the goal is only to limit what other players see.

If one specific person should no longer see your friend-list information at all, removing them as a friend is a broader option. Pokémon GO does not notify the person you remove. However, friendship bonuses stop for that friendship, and removing a friend in one Pokémon game also removes them from the other games you share.

Quick Recap
Practical checklist
- Turn off the friend-list catch-visibility toggle in Pokémon GO Settings.
- Review Campfire posts and set any sensitive post to Only me.
- Check online status separately if you do not want friends to see when you are online.
- Remember that gifts and trades can reveal your location to the other player.
- For child accounts, use Pokémon Trainer Central and weigh the permanent effect of disabling Friends and Related Features.
- Remove a friend only if you want the friendship to end, since bonuses and cross-game connections are lost.
