To stop Reliability Monitor’s scheduled history collection in Windows 11, disable its RAC task in Task Scheduler. To restore collection, enable that task again. This changes the task for Reliability Monitor history; it is not a master switch for Windows diagnostic data or Windows Error Reporting.

Disable the RAC task in Task Scheduler

  1. Open Task Scheduler from the Start menu.

  2. In the left pane, expand Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > RAC.

  3. If RAC is not shown, select View > Show Hidden Tasks.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

  4. Inspect the task listed in the RAC folder. The names used in documentation include RacTask and RACAgent; confirm the name actually shown on your PC rather than assuming they are interchangeable.

  5. Right-click the relevant RAC task and select Disable.

This disables the scheduled task associated with Reliability Monitor history. The Windows 11 steps are documented by The Windows Club; a Microsoft-hosted community answer also describes the hidden-task workflow, but that answer concerns Windows 7 and is historical corroboration, not proof that every Windows 11 PC presents an identical task.

Change the task from an elevated Command Prompt

If the task name on your system is RacTask, the following command disables it:

schtasks.exe /change /disable /tn MicrosoftWindowsRACRacTask

Open Command Prompt as an administrator before running the command. If your system shows a different task name, inspect it in Task Scheduler and use the matching name; do not run this command unchanged on the assumption that every installation uses the same label.

Restore scheduled collection

In Task Scheduler, right-click the RAC task you previously disabled and select Enable. Or, if the task is named RacTask, run this from an elevated Command Prompt:

schtasks.exe /change /enable /tn MicrosoftWindowsRACRacTask

Open Reliability Monitor and distinguish its report command

To open the Reliability Monitor history view, press Windows key + R, enter perfmon /rel, and press Enter. Microsoft’s perfmon command reference lists /report separately: perfmon /report starts the System Diagnostics Data Collector Set, so it is not the command for opening Reliability Monitor or changing the RAC task.

What this setting does not control

Windows diagnostic-data choices are managed separately in Settings > Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback. Microsoft describes Required and Optional diagnostic data; choosing Optional includes Required data and may include additional device and activity details and enhanced error reporting. Microsoft Support says, “Regardless of whether you choose to send Optional diagnostic data, your device will be just as secure and will operate normally.” That statement concerns diagnostic-data choices, not the RAC task.

Windows Error Reporting (WER) is also separate. Microsoft describes it as “an event-based feedback infrastructure designed to collect information on issues that Windows can detect, report the information to Microsoft, and provide users with any available solutions.” Disabling the RAC task should therefore be understood narrowly: it changes that scheduled Reliability Monitor collection task. The cited guidance does not establish that it deletes existing history, stops all event logging or reporting, improves performance, or behaves identically on every Windows 11 build.
