Choose the control that matches the interruption
Pixel Watch notifications can come from phone apps, watch apps, temporary watch modes, or a separate phone-left-behind reminder. Those sources have different switches. There is no universal control that reliably removes every alert while preserving every important call, alarm, and message.

Start with the narrowest setting that solves the problem. An app switch is best for a recurring distraction; a mode is better when you need several hours of quiet; cooldown helps when one conversation produces a rapid sequence of alerts.

Turn off notifications for individual apps
Use the paired phone for the most precise change. This prevents one noisy app from taking over the watch while leaving other notifications available.

- Open the Google Pixel Watch app on the phone paired with your watch.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Notifications, then App notifications.
- Review the list of apps that can send alerts to the watch.
- Select the app that is pulling your attention away and switch its watch notification setting off. Leave essential apps enabled.
- Send or wait for a new alert from that app to confirm that the change affects the watch rather than the phone’s own notification panel.
This list can include apps installed on the phone and apps associated with the watch. Menu names and the organization of the list can change between Pixel Watch app versions, so use the closest matching Notifications and App notifications entries if your labels differ.
App-level control does not delete the phone notification or change the app’s account settings. It changes whether the Pixel Watch mirrors or presents that app’s alert. If the phone itself is still noisy, adjust the app’s notification categories in Android’s phone settings separately.
Make a short list before changing anything: high-volume social feeds, shopping alerts, news updates, and other low-urgency apps are often the best candidates, while calls, alarms, and genuinely time-sensitive messages may stay enabled. Change one app first and test it. That makes it easier to reverse the decision if an alert you needed disappears.
Use a temporary quiet mode for a focus block
When you want several categories of interruptions to stop at once, use a mode from the watch. From the watch face, swipe down to open Quick Settings and select the mode you need. Check the confirmation screen and the mode’s exceptions on your model before relying on it for a meeting, travel, or sleep.
Modes are intentionally broader than an app switch. They are useful for a defined block of time, but leaving one enabled accidentally can make it seem as though notification delivery is broken. Always check Quick Settings when alerts suddenly stop.
Do Not Disturb
Google describes Do Not Disturb as turning off notifications and silencing incoming calls. Depending on the watch and its software, you can allow exceptions for priority notifications, repeat callers, alarms, and media. If an alarm or a second call from the same person must get through, review those exception choices instead of assuming the mode blocks everything.
- Swipe down from the watch face.
- Tap the Do Not Disturb tile.
- Choose the duration or schedule offered by your watch.
- Open the mode’s settings, if shown, and review priority, repeat-caller, alarm, and media exceptions.
- Turn Do Not Disturb off from Quick Settings when the focus period ends, unless you selected a timed schedule.
Do Not Disturb is a broad, temporary choice. It is not a replacement for disabling a single app that interrupts you every day.
Bedtime
Bedtime is intended for sleep and can permit alarms, priority notifications, and repeat callers according to Google’s documented behavior. The available schedule and exception controls differ by model and software build.

- Swipe down from the watch face.
- Tap Bedtime.
- Confirm the start or end option offered by the watch.
- Check which alarms, priority notifications, or repeat callers are allowed on your version.
- End Bedtime from Quick Settings when you wake up if it was not scheduled.
If an alert appears during Bedtime, check its exception status before removing the app from the notification list. The alert may be intentionally allowed by the mode.
Theater or Cinema mode
Theater/Cinema mode is designed to stop visible and audible interruptions. It suppresses notifications and incoming calls and temporarily turns off the display. This is useful in a cinema, presentation, or dark room where even a lit screen is distracting.
- Swipe down from the watch face.
- Select Theater or Cinema, using the label shown on your watch.
- Leave the mode enabled for the event.
- Press the required button or reopen Quick Settings to exit it afterward; the exit gesture depends on the model.
Because this mode also prevents the screen from waking normally, it is less suitable when you must glance at time-sensitive alerts.
Reduce repeated bursts with Android Notification cooldown
If the problem is not every notification but a rapid series from one chat or app, Android 16 or newer provides Notification cooldown. Google says this setting can mute repeated notifications and reduce haptic feedback when multiple notifications arrive from the same conversation or app in a short period.
- On the phone, open Settings.
- Tap Notifications.
- Open General.
- Tap Notification cooldown and turn it on.
- Return to the conversation or app that was producing the burst and observe whether subsequent alerts are quieter.
Cooldown manages repetition; it does not turn off the app and does not replace app-specific Pixel Watch controls. If a single alert from that app is still unwanted, disable the app in the Pixel Watch app instead. It also requires Android 16 or newer, so the option may be absent on an older phone even when the watch itself is current.
Check phone-to-watch mirroring and visibility settings
Sometimes the goal is not to remove an alert but to change where it appears. Google’s troubleshooting guidance points to two controls in the Pixel Watch app’s Notifications area: Mute notifications from phone and Hide silent notifications. Their wording or location can vary by software version.
When the watch should show alerts while you use the phone
Open the Pixel Watch app, go to its Notifications area, and inspect Mute notifications from phone. If it is enabled, the watch may stay quiet while the phone is in use. Turn off that control when you want the watch to continue showing notifications while you are looking at the phone.

Inspect Hide silent notifications in the same Notifications area. Turn it off if silent notifications should remain visible on the watch. This setting changes visibility; it does not make an app’s notification important or audible.

Make one change at a time, then trigger a test notification. That makes it clear which control changed the behavior and avoids accidentally muting all phone-originated alerts.
Disable a phone-left-behind reminder separately
A reminder that appears because the phone was left behind is not an ordinary app notification. Google calls the feature Notify when left behind; it is off by default. Google documents management for Pixel Watch 2 or newer, subject to the required phone, Pixel Watch app, and software versions.
- Open the Google Pixel Watch app on the paired phone.
- Open Watch preferences.
- Tap Security.
- Open Notify when left behind.
- Turn the feature off if you do not want the watch to remind you when the phone is separated.
If the entry is absent, verify the watch generation and software before assuming the feature is broken. Google’s documented requirement is Pixel Watch 2 or newer, and availability can also depend on the paired phone and app version. Do not disable ordinary app notifications to solve this specific reminder; they are separate controls.

Use the watch itself only when your model supports it
Google documents a direct on-watch way to disable an app’s notifications only for Pixel Watch 4 running Wear OS 5 or newer. On that combination, touch and hold the notification on the watch and use the offered control to turn off notifications for its app.
- On a Pixel Watch 4 with Wear OS 5 or newer, open the unwanted notification.
- Touch and hold the notification.
- Choose the notification-control option shown by the watch.
- Confirm that the app’s notifications should be disabled.
Owners of other Pixel Watch generations should not expect that gesture to expose the same control. Use the Pixel Watch app’s Settings > Notifications > App notifications list instead. The watch model and Wear OS version matter here; an identical-looking notification does not guarantee identical controls.
Troubleshoot when notifications are still wrong
Before unpairing the watch or resetting anything, work through the checks below. They address both unwanted alerts and alerts that have disappeared.
1. Confirm the phone and watch are paired
Open the Pixel Watch app and check that it shows the expected watch as connected. If the connection is intermittent, keep the watch and phone nearby, verify Bluetooth is enabled, and allow the app to complete its connection process before judging notification behavior.

Google’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking for system updates. Update the phone, the Pixel Watch app, and the watch when updates are offered, then test again. A menu or setting can move after an update, so follow the labels currently displayed rather than an older screenshot.

3. Check phone-level notifications for the Pixel Watch app
The phone can block the Pixel Watch app itself from posting notifications or running the services needed for notification delivery. In the phone’s notification settings, make sure notifications for the Google Pixel Watch app are permitted. The exact Android path varies by phone software.
4. Recheck mirroring and silent-notification controls
Return to the Pixel Watch app’s Notifications area and inspect Mute notifications from phone and Hide silent notifications. A setting intended to reduce duplication can look like a connection failure if you expect every phone alert on the watch.
5. Look for a watch-wide silence setting
Google’s troubleshooting table also calls out Silence watch when not being worn. If alerts stop whenever the watch is removed from your wrist, inspect that setting before changing individual apps.

7. Test with one known app
After each change, trigger one notification from an app that remains enabled. Confirm whether the watch vibrates, displays the alert, or stays quiet. Testing a single known event is more reliable than waiting for a random message while several settings are changing.
8. Re-pair only after settings and updates are checked
If pairing remains unreliable after updates and the notification controls are correct, follow Google’s current recovery steps for your device before unpairing and pairing again. Re-pairing can require setup time and should be a later troubleshooting step, not the first response to one noisy app.

If one conversation creates a stream of alerts, add Android’s Notification cooldown on a phone running Android 16 or newer. If the interruption is a left-behind reminder, change that separate security setting rather than altering ordinary app notifications.
Review the result after a day of normal use. If an important alert vanished, re-enable that app instead of abandoning all quieting. If an unimportant alert remains, identify whether it comes from a different app, an allowed mode exception, or the phone-left-behind feature; each has its own control above.
