Turn off iCloud Reminders on the device that should stop receiving the shared list. On an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > See All (or Show All) > Reminders, switch Reminders off, and answer the prompt about keeping existing reminders on that device. The change is device-specific: other devices using the same Apple Account keep syncing unless you disable the feature there too.
Why your reminders appear on every Apple device
Reminders stored in iCloud are shared by an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac when each device is signed in to the same Apple Account and has iCloud Reminders enabled. Edits and new reminders then appear across that participating group.

The controlling setting is iCloud Reminders, not Bluetooth, a cable connection, or the Reminders app’s notification settings. A device that is not signed in to the intended Apple Account, or has Reminders disabled, cannot access that account’s iCloud reminders.
Stop syncing on an iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap iCloud.
- Tap See All or Show All to view apps using iCloud.
- Tap or switch off Reminders.
- Read the confirmation prompt and choose whether to keep the reminders already downloaded to that device.
With the switch off, that iPhone or iPad stops participating in the iCloud Reminders set. New reminders created there are not added to the iCloud set, and reminders from other participating devices no longer appear on it. Turning the switch back on makes the device eligible to use the iCloud set again.
#1 Best Overall
- Vibrant 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology. Action mode for smooth, steady, handheld videos.
Choosing “Keep on My iPhone” (or the equivalent option)
The prompt applies to the device you are changing. Keeping items preserves copies locally on that device; removing them removes those local copies. Before choosing, confirm that important reminders still exist on another device with iCloud Reminders enabled or at iCloud.com/reminders. The local choice does not delete the reminders from other participating devices.
Stop syncing on a Mac
macOS 15 and later
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Click your name.
- Click iCloud.
- Click See All next to Saved to iCloud.
- Turn off Reminders and review the resulting prompt.
macOS 13.3 through macOS 14
- Open Apple menu > System Settings.
- Select your name > iCloud.
- Under Apps Using iCloud, choose Show All or Show More Apps.
- Turn off Reminders and make your local keep-or-remove choice.
macOS 13.0 through 13.2
Open Apple menu > System Settings > your name > iCloud, then use the direct Reminders control and confirm the prompt. Apple moved and renamed this control during macOS 13, so the label you see depends on the installed point release.

Which approach fits your goal?
| Goal | Setting to change | Scope | What happens to data | Can you reverse it? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Keep syncing everywhere except one iPhone, iPad, or Mac | Turn off iCloud Reminders on that device | One device | Choose whether existing items remain locally; other devices retain the iCloud copies | Yes, by enabling Reminders again |
| Stop a second device from seeing the shared set | Disable Reminders on that second device | One additional device | Its local keep-or-remove choice affects that device only | Yes |
| Use a completely separate reminder set | Verify the device is signed in to a different Apple Account | That account’s devices | Different accounts have different iCloud Reminders sets | Yes, by returning to the intended account |
There is no single “stop syncing only this list” switch in the iCloud Reminders setting. The switch controls the device’s participation in the iCloud Reminders service.
What to check if reminders still show up
Inspect every device
Open the iCloud settings on each iPhone, iPad, and Mac that might be involved. A device with Reminders still enabled can continue displaying and changing the shared set. Disable the feature on every device that should be isolated, while leaving it enabled on devices that should continue syncing.

Confirm the Apple Account
Check the account name shown at the top of Settings on iPhone or iPad and in System Settings on Mac. If one device uses another Apple Account, it is connected to a different Reminders set, so changing a switch on the first account will not control it.
Check where the reminder is stored
Reminders may also be stored in another account or locally. Look at the account or list location in the Reminders app before moving or deleting anything. The iCloud switch only governs the iCloud Reminders data for the signed-in account.

Re-enable and retry carefully
If the wrong option was selected, turn Reminders back on for that device, allow the data to load, then disable it again and read the keep-or-remove prompt. Do not choose removal until you have verified a copy exists on another participating device or at iCloud.com/reminders.

Important limits of the change
- Disabling Reminders on one device does not disable it on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch elsewhere.
- The keep-or-remove choice concerns existing data on the device being changed; it is not a command to erase the iCloud set from every device.
- New reminders made while a device is disconnected from iCloud Reminders stay outside the shared iCloud set unless you later move or recreate them after re-enabling the feature.
- Menu names differ by iOS, iPadOS, and macOS release, but the setting remains under the iCloud account controls.
