Instagram does not offer a pregnancy-specific “block all” switch. The most effective approach is to combine four controls: mark every unwanted recommendation Not interested, add pregnancy and parenting terms to Hidden Words, reset suggested content if recommendations remain stuck, and use Following or Favorites when you want to browse only selected accounts. Sensitive Content Control can reduce some broader sensitive recommendations, but Meta does not describe it as a dedicated pregnancy or baby filter.
These settings reduce recommendations rather than guarantee a complete removal. Posts from accounts you follow, advertisements, direct shares, Stories, and images whose captions contain none of your blocked terms can still appear and need separate actions.

Use the controls in this order
Start with the fastest per-post signal, then add a text filter, and finally reset the recommendation profile if the subject keeps returning. The sequence below covers Instagram’s Explore, Reels, and suggested posts in Feed.

1. Mark each unwanted recommendation “Not interested”
- When a pregnancy, baby, maternity, or parenting recommendation appears, tap the X in the post’s upper-right corner, or open the three-dot menu.
- Tap Not interested.
- Repeat this on similar recommendations in Explore, Reels, and Feed.
Meta says the post is removed immediately and Instagram will suggest fewer posts like it in the future. Use the option consistently rather than scrolling past the item. A single action is a signal about one recommendation; repeated actions give Instagram more information about the type of content you do not want.

Apply the signal to different forms of the topic, including pregnancy announcements, ultrasound posts, newborn clips, baby-product demonstrations, parenting advice, maternity photography, and family-reel compilations. Do not open, save, comment on, share, or watch unwanted recommendations longer than necessary, because those interactions can provide positive-interest signals to the recommendation system.
2. Add topic words and hashtags to Hidden Words
Hidden Words lets you add custom words, phrases, emojis, and hashtags. Instagram uses the entries to hide recommendation content whose captions or tags contain matching text.
- Open your Instagram profile and the app’s content-preference controls. Depending on your app version, the entry may be labeled Content preferences inside the settings menu.
- Open Hidden Words.
- Choose the option for custom words, phrases, emojis, or hashtags.
- Enter terms one at a time, or add a group of related terms before saving.
- Save the list and return to the recommendation surfaces you use most.
A practical starting list is:
pregnancy,pregnant,maternity,due date,birth, andbaby showerbaby,newborn,infant, and common baby-related emojisparenting,motherhood,mom,mama,dad, andfatherhoodbreastfeedingand other terms you personally associate with the unwanted topic- Hashtags such as
#pregnancy,#newborn,#parenting, and related variants
Add spelling variants and hashtags separately when you want them covered. The control is text-based: it can match words, phrases, emojis, and hashtags in captions or tags, but it cannot be promised to identify every image or video that shows a baby or pregnancy when the caption contains none of those terms. There is no published accuracy percentage for this use.

Hidden Words is reversible. If it hides something you later want to see, remove the specific term rather than clearing the entire list.
3. Reset suggested content when recommendations remain dominated by the topic
Resetting is the clean-slate option for a recommendation profile that seems persistently trained on pregnancy, baby, or parenting material.

- Go to Profile.
- Tap the three-line More options icon.
- Select Content preferences.
- Tap Reset suggested content.
- Review the confirmation and tap Reset suggested content again.
Meta says recommendations will personalize again over time from the accounts and content you interact with after the reset. Instagram also offers a review of followed accounts during this process, allowing you to unfollow accounts whose posts you no longer want in your feed.
Resetting does not erase your account, remove every followed account automatically, or create a permanent topic block. It changes the recommendation starting point. If you continue watching or engaging with the same subject after the reset, Instagram can learn that interest again.
4. Use Following or Favorites for a more controlled daily feed
When your immediate goal is to catch up with chosen accounts rather than discover recommendations, switch views:
- Following shows posts from accounts you follow in chronological order, according to Meta’s description.
- Favorites lets you select accounts, places those accounts higher in the feed, and provides a dedicated Favorites feed.
These views reduce exposure to suggested posts while you read updates from people and organizations you deliberately chose. They do not remove pregnancy or parenting posts published by an account you follow. If a followed account is the source, unfollowing, muting, or blocking that account is a separate decision.
5. Treat Sensitive Content Control as an optional supplement
Instagram’s Sensitive Content Control is broader than pregnancy or parenting. Meta describes it as a way to choose how much sensitive content appears in Explore. The documented choices are Limit, Allow, and Limit Even More; Allow is unavailable to people under 18.

Use this setting only as an additional reduction. Meta does not identify pregnancy, babies, or parenting as a dedicated category in this control, so it cannot be presented as a guaranteed topic block. It may change the amount of other sensitive material you see without affecting ordinary family posts that are not classified as sensitive.
What each control can and cannot cover
The controls operate at different levels. Choosing the right one prevents the common mistake of expecting a per-post signal or a text list to control the entire account.

Remove content that is not a recommendation
The controls above primarily address suggested content. If the material comes from a source you already follow or from someone sending it directly, use the control for that source instead of expecting Hidden Words or Not interested to handle it.
Posts from accounts you follow
Open the account’s profile and decide whether to unfollow, mute, or block it. Unfollowing removes its ordinary posts from your followed-account feed. Muting is useful when you want to remain connected without seeing that account’s posts or Stories, where the available mute choices permit it. Blocking is the strongest separation and prevents the account from interacting with you through the blocked profile.
Review the account list offered during a suggested-content reset. It is an opportunity to remove sources you no longer want before they continue supplying posts to your regular feed.

Stories, direct shares, and messages
Stories and direct messages can be sent by people you follow or by contacts who share a post with you. A recommendation filter does not turn every incoming share into a hidden item. For a recurring sender, mute their Stories, restrict the conversation, or ask them not to send that material. If a message is abusive or threatening, use Instagram’s reporting and blocking tools.
Advertisements
Ads are selected through a separate advertising system. An ad’s menu can provide controls such as hiding that ad or reporting it, but a pregnancy-related term in Hidden Words is not a promise that every advertisement containing a matching image or theme will disappear. Handle each unwanted ad from its own menu and review your ad preferences if the same advertiser or category repeatedly appears.
Visual-only posts
A reel can show a newborn, pregnancy test, nursery, or family scene while using a caption with none of your Hidden Words. Because the documented filter matches text and tags, the most reliable response to that item is still Not interested. If the account is followed, use the account-level action as well.

You interacted with related material without intending to request more
Recommendations are influenced by what you watch, like, save, comment on, share, and search for. A single long viewing session or opening several related profiles can make the system test more of the same subject. When the topic is unwanted, exit promptly, avoid engagement, and mark the item Not interested.

Not interested is designed for recommendations. It is not a substitute for unfollowing or muting an account whose ordinary posts you no longer want. Check whether the account name appears as a followed source before assuming the recommendation system ignored your signal.
The caption uses an unexpected spelling or no matching text
Hidden Words will not catch every synonym automatically. Add the variants, hashtags, and relevant emojis that you actually see. Keep the list focused on the topic; adding extremely broad words can hide unrelated posts.
You reset the profile but immediately supplied the same signals
A reset starts personalization again, not a permanent prohibition. If you keep watching, saving, or searching for the same subject after the reset, those actions can influence future suggestions. Use Following or Favorites during the period when you want to avoid discovery surfaces.
You are relying on Sensitive Content Control as a topic switch
Limit and Limit Even More are general sensitivity settings for Explore. Meta has not described them as a pregnancy, baby, or parenting filter. Keep the topic-specific controls active even if you choose a stricter sensitive-content level.

You want fewer baby reels immediately
- On each unwanted reel, tap the upper-right X or three-dot menu and choose Not interested.
- Add
baby,newborn,infant,parenting, and the hashtags you encounter to Hidden Words. - Switch to Following or Favorites while catching up with selected accounts.
Explore is saturated with pregnancy recommendations
- Mark several pregnancy and maternity recommendations Not interested across Explore and Reels.
- Use Hidden Words for terms such as
pregnancy,pregnant,maternity,due date, andbirth. - If the pattern remains, use Profile → More options → Content preferences → Reset suggested content.
- After the reset, avoid opening or engaging with the topic and use Following or Favorites for routine browsing.
A followed friend keeps posting parenting updates
- Decide whether you want to remain connected.
- If yes, mute the account’s posts or Stories where available.
- If no, unfollow the account; block it only when you need to prevent contact entirely.
Hidden Words and Not interested are not replacements for an account-level choice.
You need the strongest available reduction across recommendations
- Use Not interested repeatedly on unwanted recommendations.
- Build a thorough Hidden Words list with terms, variants, emojis, and hashtags.
- Reset suggested content.
- Select Limit Even More in Sensitive Content Control if that broader reduction is acceptable to you.
- Use Following or Favorites instead of discovery feeds.
This combination still cannot guarantee that every pregnancy, baby, or parenting item disappears, particularly when it comes from followed accounts, ads, direct shares, Stories, or visual-only posts.
How to maintain the result
- Use Not interested every time a new unwanted recommendation appears; consistency is more useful than a single isolated tap.
- Update Hidden Words when you notice a new recurring term, hashtag, emoji, or spelling variant.
- Periodically review followed accounts and remove sources that no longer fit your feed.
- Use Following or Favorites when you want a predictable session with selected accounts.
- Do not rely on a promised percentage reduction or a fixed time-to-improvement. Instagram and Meta do not publish a guaranteed success rate or a guaranteed number of hours or days for this topic.
What Instagram’s controls do not promise
No documented setting guarantees a complete pregnancy, baby, or parenting block. Meta’s statements describe intended behavior: Not interested removes the selected recommendation and should lead to fewer similar suggestions; Reset suggested content starts personalization again; Following and Favorites narrow the accounts you browse; and Sensitive Content Control adjusts a broader category. None of those descriptions establishes a percentage reduction, a permanent ban, or a guaranteed time by which the topic will disappear.
For the most controlled experience, combine recommendation signals with account-level actions and selected-account feeds. Treat every recommendation as a separate signal and every followed source, advertiser, or direct sender as a separate problem to manage.
