Work through the checks below in order, starting with charging and ending with hardware service.
Start with a five-minute diagnosis
Before changing Bluetooth settings, determine which symptom you have. An earbud that never powers on cannot pair, while earbuds that pair and then cut out usually need a wireless or device-connection check.

- Neither earbud appears in Bluetooth: check charging, put the earbuds into the exact model’s pairing mode, then remove the old Bluetooth entry.
- One earbud is missing or silent: inspect that side’s charging contact and follow the model’s single-sided or synchronization reset procedure.
- They pair but disconnect: move the source closer, disconnect other remembered devices, and test with fewer obstructions.
- The case or one earbud shows no charging indication: treat charging as the primary fault, not Bluetooth.
Keep the phone, tablet, or computer within a short distance during setup. Turn off Bluetooth on nearby devices that have previously used the earbuds so they cannot automatically reclaim the connection.

1. Confirm that both earbuds and the case are really charging
Place the left and right earbuds in their correctly marked positions in the case. Look for the case or earbud indicator described in the manual; a light or on-screen battery symbol is useful evidence that the contacts are touching. Charge the case and earbuds before repeating pairing attempts.

Inspect the charging path
- Remove visible lint or debris from the case wells and charging contacts using only the cleaning method approved by the manufacturer.
- Make sure each earbud sits fully down rather than resting on an obstruction or an incorrectly positioned ear tip or wing.
- Keep the contacts and charging ports dry. Sweat, moisture, or foreign material can prevent charging; Sony documents this risk in its support guidance: I cannot pair or connect my headphones and playback device.
- Try charging the case from a known-good power source and cable if the case indicator never appears.
If one side never shows a charging indication after the contacts are clean and dry, stop spending time on Bluetooth menus. A battery, contact, or case fault can leave that earbud unable to enter pairing mode. Contact the manufacturer or seller for service rather than buying a random replacement; cases and individual earbuds are model-specific.
2. Remove competing connections
Clip-on earbuds often remember phones, tablets, and computers. A previously paired device may reconnect as soon as its Bluetooth radio is on, leaving the device you are trying to use unable to claim the earbuds. Sony specifically calls out reconnection problems after headphones have been paired with multiple devices.
- List nearby phones, tablets, laptops, televisions, and watches that have used the earbuds.
- Temporarily switch Bluetooth off on those devices, or open their Bluetooth menus and disconnect the earbuds.
- Leave Bluetooth enabled only on the source you intend to pair first.
- Pair and test that source before turning the other radios back on.
Do not assume that “multipoint” means every clip-on model can maintain two active connections. Multipoint support, switching rules, and the number of remembered devices vary by product. The Raycon Everyday Clip Earbuds manual, for example, has a dedicated multipoint section, but that documentation does not make multipoint universal: Raycon Everyday Clip Earbuds Full User Manual.

Bluetooth can retain an old security record even after an earbud firmware or phone change. Removing that record and entering pairing mode again is more reliable than repeatedly tapping a device that appears as “Saved” or “Connected.”
On the phone, tablet, or computer
- Open the system Bluetooth settings.
- Find the exact earbud name and choose Forget, Remove device, or the equivalent option. Remove duplicate entries for the same earbuds if more than one is listed.
- Turn Bluetooth off, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on. If the device list remains stale, leave the Bluetooth settings screen and open it again; Sony recommends these steps when a headset does not appear after a reset.
- Keep the screen open while you put the earbuds into pairing mode.
On the earbuds
Use the maker’s instructions for the exact model and confirm the displayed name before selecting it. Pairing gestures are not interchangeable. Sennheiser’s ACCENTUM Clip guide instructs users to charge the product, restart or update the smartphone if necessary, hold both touch controls for three seconds until the pairing prompt, and select ACCENTUM Clip: ACCENTUM Clip – If a problem occurs. That three-second gesture should not be treated as a generic instruction for other clip-on earbuds.

Other models use a case button or a different sequence. JLab’s Flex Open procedure is documented on its support page rather than through a universal touch duration: Pairing and operation: Flex Open earbuds. If the earbuds do not appear, return them to the case, close and reopen it if the manual says to do so, and repeat the documented pairing sequence.
4. Restart first; use a factory reset only when necessary
A restart or simple reset can clear a stuck radio state without deleting the relationship between the earbuds and your devices. A factory reset is more disruptive: it commonly erases pairing data and requires a completely new setup.

Follow the manufacturer’s reset procedure exactly, including whether the earbuds must be in the case and whether the lid must remain open. Keep the source device nearby but do not keep trying to connect during the reset. Afterward, check whether the existing Bluetooth entry reconnects.
Escalate to a factory reset
Use this option when a simple reset does not clear the fault, the earbuds are stuck in a previous owner’s pairing state, or the maker’s troubleshooting flow specifically calls for it. Write down any custom settings first. Sennheiser states that an ACCENTUM Clip simple reset retains pairing, while its factory reset removes pairing information; after that factory reset, delete the old device entry before pairing again: ACCENTUM Clip troubleshooting: single-sided silence, disconnection, or audio issues.
JLab’s Flex Open case-button reset follows a different sequence, which is why copying a button-hold time from another product can leave the earbuds in the wrong state. Use the model’s own guide and watch for its stated indicator or voice prompt.

5. If the earbuds pair but keep disconnecting
A successful pairing proves that the initial Bluetooth exchange worked; it does not guarantee a stable audio link. Test the connection under controlled conditions before resetting again.

- Keep the source device close to the earbuds while testing.
- Remove your phone from a bag, desk drawer, or crowded pocket.
- Move away from areas with many active wireless devices and large physical obstructions.
- Test with only one source device’s Bluetooth enabled.
These checks are especially relevant when the earbuds stay connected at close range but fail as you move away. They do not establish a universal Bluetooth range; antenna design, codec, radio congestion, and the source device all affect the result.
Try a lower-rate codec only if your model offers it
Some products expose codec choices in their app or source-device developer settings. Sennheiser identifies high-rate LDAC operation as more sensitive to interference and connection conditions on ACCENTUM Clip and suggests reducing distance or obstructions, or trying AAC or SBC when available. Separate Bluetooth failure from an audio-app problem
After the earbuds stay connected, test a local audio file or a different app. If only one app pauses or loses sound, force-close or update that app and check the source device’s audio-output selector. Do not factory-reset earbuds to fix an application that is not maintaining playback.
6. Model-specific procedures at a glance

Use the product name printed on the case or packaging when opening support pages. Similar names can refer to different generations with different reset sequences.
7. When one side will not connect or remains silent
Single-sided failure often starts with charging contact or synchronization rather than the phone. Put both earbuds in the case, verify that both indicators respond, and let them charge together. Then apply the model’s documented single-sided or synchronization reset.
- If the silent side has no indicator, return to the charging inspection in step 1.
- If both sides indicate charge but only one appears in audio, remove the saved Bluetooth entry and repeat the full two-earbud pairing procedure.
- If the maker lists a “single-sided silence” or “earbud disconnection” reset, use that procedure before a factory reset.
- Do not mix an earbud from another set or a case from another model; firmware and charging compatibility are not guaranteed.
8. Phone and computer checks
The source device can preserve a broken Bluetooth profile or route sound elsewhere. After the earbuds have been charged and reset as appropriate, restart the phone or computer. Install pending operating-system updates if the manufacturer’s support flow recommends them, and verify that the earbuds are selected as the active audio output rather than the built-in speaker or another headset.
On a computer, remove duplicate Bluetooth entries and pair from the main Bluetooth settings panel rather than from a third-party audio utility. On a phone, check that Airplane Mode is off and that the Bluetooth permission or system radio has not been restricted by a battery-saving mode. These checks address the source device; they do not replace the earbud maker’s reset instructions.

9. Decide when hardware service is the sensible next step
Contact the manufacturer or seller when any of the following remains true after the documented charging and reset process:

- One earbud never shows a charging indication with clean, dry contacts.
- The case will not accept or hold charge.
- The earbuds never enter pairing mode on any compatible source device.
- They disconnect immediately at close range with competing Bluetooth devices disabled.
- A factory reset and fresh pairing fail, and the maker’s support flow provides no further software step.
Give support the exact model, purchase information if available, the source-device model and operating-system version, and the steps that changed the symptom. Ask about model-compatible replacement parts or warranty service. A generic replacement earbud or case may not contain the required firmware or charging calibration.
10. If replacement is justified, compare the failure-resistant features
Buying another set is not a fix for a phone’s Bluetooth problem or a congested wireless environment. Consider replacement only after the existing set fails the hardware checks or is outside economical repair. Compare the following before choosing:

Official product help is more useful than a retailer listing for answering reset, charging, and multipoint questions. For example, Raycon’s current help page and manual provide model-specific setup information: Everyday Clip Earbuds help and the full user manual. That documentation should be treated as guidance for that model, not proof that it is the best replacement for every reader.
Prevention checklist
- Charge the case before it reaches empty and confirm both earbuds make contact.
- Keep contacts and ports dry and free of visible debris.
- Turn off Bluetooth on an old source before pairing to a new one.
- Keep the manufacturer’s exact pairing and reset page bookmarked.
- Use a lower-rate codec only when the model supports it and high-rate audio is unstable.
- Store both earbuds in the case so they shut down and synchronize as designed.
- Record the model name and purchase details in case service is needed.
Bottom line
Start with power and physical contact, then eliminate competing connections, forget the old Bluetooth entry, and run the exact model’s pairing procedure. A simple reset is safer than a factory reset because it may preserve pairing data; use the factory option only when the maker calls for it. If close-range testing still fails or an earbud never indicates charging, the evidence points to hardware service rather than another round of Bluetooth retries.
