Keep your encoder sending video continuously and put a moving standby scene between clips. A looped background or animated “back shortly” slate gives viewers something other than the outgoing clip’s last frame while the next video loads. YouTube does not provide a specific setting called “prevent frozen frames between videos”; the handoff is managed in your encoder or streaming workflow.
Why the picture freezes between clips
YouTube receives the video feed produced by your encoder. If the encoder reaches the end of one file before another source is ready, its output may hold the last frame during that gap. That is a production handoff issue to investigate first—not proof by itself of a YouTube transcoder, network, or media-file fault.

YouTube documents encoder-based streaming and a continuous 24/7 feed, but its documentation does not prescribe a particular playlist transition or standby-scene setup. The moving-standby approach below is practical implementation advice based on keeping the outgoing feed active.

- Keep the same encoder session connected. Do not end and restart the YouTube live stream for each clip. Keep the encoder transmitting while the content changes.
- Prepare a standby scene with ongoing motion. Use a short looping video, moving background, or animated “back shortly” slate. Avoid a still image if your goal is to prevent a static-looking picture during the gap.
- Arrange the transition so standby is ready before the clip ends. Switch to standby before the outgoing file finishes, or ensure it becomes active as the next file opens. Then move from standby to the next clip.
- Check audio as well as picture. Confirm the standby scene does not introduce silence, an unintended audio loop, clipping, or overlapping sound. Verify the next clip starts at the intended point.
- Rehearse with the actual playlist and files. Watch the outgoing clip, standby scene, and next clip in sequence, including the moments when sources change. Do not assume a transition behaves correctly just because it works with a different file.
This is an encoder-workflow recommendation, not an official YouTube setting or guaranteed fix. The exact controls depend on the software or service producing your stream.

Test the stream before going live
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the intended broadcast, then monitoring stream health and reviewing messages during the event. Its Live Streaming API documentation describes preview testing and distinguishes testing from live broadcast states. In that API, an active stream status means YouTube servers are receiving data from the encoder; it does not by itself confirm that the picture viewers see is changing correctly.
- Inspect the encoder’s local preview through each clip change. If that preview freezes, look at the encoder’s source or playlist handoff.
- Compare it with YouTube’s stream preview and health indicators. If the local picture moves but YouTube’s preview freezes, review YouTube’s health messages and the encoder connection.
- Test representative audio and motion before the production stream, and continue monitoring stream health while it runs.
Use sound encoder settings—but know what they do
YouTube’s live-encoder guidance recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds. For RTMP/RTMPS it lists constant bitrate (CBR), recommends RTMPS, and advises choosing a bitrate appropriate for the internet connection. These settings help establish a healthy feed to YouTube; they do not create a standby scene or configure playlist transitions.

- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
Set bitrate in line with YouTube’s current guidance for your chosen resolution and the upload capacity available to the encoder. A configured bitrate that the connection cannot sustain can contribute to delivery problems, but changing bitrate alone will not fix a source that stops producing changing frames between files.

If freezing happens during clips too
A transition-only freeze points first to the handoff. If the image also freezes during clips, check encoder and connection health separately.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0
- Watch OBS’s Dropped frames counter and connection indicator. OBS says an increasing dropped-frame count together with a yellow or red connection square indicates an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the configured bitrate. OBS may drop video frames to avoid buffering.
- Compare local and YouTube previews. A freeze already visible in the local encoder preview points toward source playback, encoder load, or the media handoff. A moving local preview with a problematic YouTube preview makes the connection and YouTube stream-health messages important clues.
- Review load and throughput. Check whether the encoder is struggling to process the video and whether the available upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate. Change one factor at a time and retest.
- Check the media source. Confirm the file plays smoothly outside the transition and that the playlist advances to the expected next item.
A frozen viewer image alone does not identify one cause. The official material does not attribute this exact symptom to a particular OBS playlist setting, YouTube transcoder behavior, network fault, or defective media file; use the preview and health indicators to narrow it down.
Choose a local or cloud workflow
A local encoder such as OBS gives you hands-on control over scenes and transitions, but the computer and connection producing the feed must stay available. YouTube lists OBS as open-source software at no charge and also lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams. A directory listing does not establish how a service handles a particular transition, nor its current pricing.

Common problems and fixes
| What you see | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Last frame holds only between clips | Whether the encoder has an active source during the handoff | Put a moving standby scene into the transition and rehearse the actual playlist. |
| Picture freezes during a clip as well | OBS dropped frames, connection indicator, encoder preview, and YouTube health messages | Separate source playback, encoder load, and connection troubleshooting; an increasing OBS dropped-frame count with a yellow or red indicator points to a connection that is unstable or below the configured bitrate demand. |
| Local preview moves but YouTube preview does not | YouTube stream-health status and messages, plus the encoder connection | Use YouTube’s health feedback and confirm the encoder continues sending the feed. |
| Transition picture works but audio is wrong | Standby and clip audio sources, their levels, and whether audio overlaps or stops | Rehearse the full audio handoff with representative content before going live. |
