The official instructions covered here explain how to remove downloaded offline language packs, but they do not establish a universal way to cancel an active transfer. If it is still progressing, look for an explicit cancel control in the app or your device’s download interface; don’t assume that deleting a pack, closing the app, or disconnecting from the network will cancel it.
First identify the app and the download’s status
The steps depend on the translation app, device, and task. A completed offline language pack can be removed using the app’s documented controls. Preventing a later download is a separate setting, and cancelling a transfer that is already in progress requires an explicit control that may not be available in every app.

- Still downloading: Check the app and the operating system’s download interface for a cancel option. The official instructions covered here do not document a universal active-download cancellation procedure.
- Already downloaded: Use the app’s Remove or Delete option to remove the offline pack.
- Trying to prevent future mobile-data downloads: Google Translate for Android documents data-use preferences for future downloads.
Google Translate on Android
Remove a downloaded language
- Open Google Translate and tap Menu.
- Tap Downloaded languages.
- Find the language, tap Remove, and confirm.
This removes a downloaded offline package. It is not documented as a way to interrupt a transfer in progress. See Google Translate Help: Download languages to use offline.
Reduce the chance of future mobile-data downloads
- Open Google Translate and tap Menu > Settings > Data usage > Downloaded languages.
- Choose Ask before downloading or Use Wi-Fi or mobile network, depending on whether you want a prompt or to allow mobile data.
These preferences manage future downloads; they are not an in-progress cancel command. Labels may vary in current app versions. See Google Translate Help.

Google Translate on iPhone or iPad
To remove an offline language that has finished downloading:
- Open Google Translate and tap Settings.
- Tap Offline translation.
- Find the language, tap Remove, and confirm.
Google recommends downloading languages over Wi-Fi to avoid slow downloads or extra data-use charges. Its instructions do not give a procedure for cancelling a transfer already in progress. See Google Translate Help: Download languages to use offline.

Apple Translate on iPhone or iPad
Apple’s guides place language downloads and on-device translation settings at Settings > Apps > Translate > Languages. They describe downloading languages and choosing Automatic or Always for On-Device Translation, but do not document a control or procedure for cancelling an active download. These settings should not be treated as a way to interrupt one.

- Open Microsoft Translator’s app settings.
- Tap Offline Languages.
- Press and hold the language pack to delete it.

If the download keeps going
- Confirm which app and device are downloading the language.
- Check the app and the operating system’s download interface for an explicit cancel control.
- If no cancel option appears, don’t rely on removing a package, closing the app, or disconnecting from the network: the official instructions cited here do not establish those as reliable ways to stop an active transfer.
- Once the download has completed, use the relevant app’s removal steps above and check its downloaded-language list.
- If the transfer persists and no cancel control is shown, consult the current help for that exact app and version.
