Each participant plays a separate single-player save. Before committing, confirm the organizer, edition, platform, start date, discussion venue, pace, and spoiler policy. The current official game information also distinguishes a Remastered edition, so check which build the group expects.
What a “community playthrough” means in The Witcher 3
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a single-player open-world role-playing game. A community playthrough does not put several players in the same world, party, or co-op lobby. Everyone owns or accesses the game separately, starts an individual save, and reaches agreed milestones before discussing the story together.

The group element can be a forum thread, chat server, video watch-along, newsletter club, or editorial feature. For example, GamesRadar+’s October 2026 RPG Club feature illustrates the shared-game model: participants play the same title during an agreed period and return to a common discussion. That format is useful here, but it does not change the game’s single-player design.

Check the event before you install or start
No particular organizer, join link or schedule is established for this title. Treat any invitation you find as an event to verify rather than assuming that a named community is currently accepting participants.
Questions to answer first
- Who runs it? Identify the person, publication or community responsible for moderation and announcements.
- When does it begin? Record the first-play date and whether late joiners are welcome.
- Which platform is expected? Ask whether the group is built around PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch or another supported release.
- Which edition or build? Confirm whether members use the original release or the current Remastered edition described by the official game page.
- Where does discussion happen? Get the exact forum, chat channel, video page or meeting location, including time-zone information for live sessions.
- What is the pace? A useful plan states a quest, chapter, region or other stopping point and a date for discussion. Do not assume that “weekly” means the same amount of play for every group.
- How are spoilers handled? Find out whether posts are locked to a milestone, whether titles must hide plot details, and whether separate channels exist for readers who are ahead.
If an event cannot answer these questions, you can still play independently, but you will not know how to stay synchronized or avoid accidental spoilers.
Choose the edition and platform deliberately
The official game page currently describes The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered as an updated edition. The listed changes cover visuals, performance, gameplay, character progression and interface elements. Those labels describe the scope of the update; they do not establish identical settings, frame rates or feature availability on every platform.

Start a new game
The original PC manual describes the basic route: open the game’s main menu and choose New Game. Updated builds and console interfaces can use different wording or place the option differently, so follow the label shown on your system if it is not identical.
- Install the edition your group expects and allow the game to finish updating.
- Launch the game and wait for the main menu rather than attempting to join a multiplayer session; the game is designed for single-player play.
- Select New Game. If your platform presents an edition, difficulty or introductory choice first, read each option and make the selection that matches the event’s instructions.
- Create or select the profile and save location offered by your platform. Keep track of which account owns the save if more than one person uses the device.
- Begin the opening sequence and play until the community’s first stopping point. If no stopping point has been announced, ask the organizer before posting detailed story information.
- Make a manual save at the agreed checkpoint when the game allows it, and note the date, platform and edition in your own records.
The manual’s route is a reliable description of the basic action, not a promise that every current platform uses the same screen design. If an update changes the menu labels, the goal is still to locate the game’s new-save command rather than to search for a co-op or “join party” control that does not exist.

Prepare a first session that will not disrupt the group
Set up accounts and storage
Sign in to the platform account that will hold your save and make sure there is enough local storage for the installation and its update. If another person shares the device, create a separate user profile or confirm how the platform distinguishes saves. A community schedule is easier to follow when one person’s progress cannot overwrite another’s.

CD PROJEKT RED’s support instructions for cross progression require the latest patch. Even if you never plan to move the save between devices, updating before the first group session reduces the chance that menu labels or save behavior differ from the organizer’s instructions.
Record the group’s boundary
Write down the exact point at which discussion is allowed: for example, the named quest or the event’s dated checkpoint. Do not use a vague instruction such as “avoid spoilers” as your only rule. A precise boundary lets you ask for technical help without revealing later story content.
Keep your own progress notes
A short private log can include the date you began, the edition, platform, last agreed checkpoint and questions for the next discussion. Keep plot revelations out of public channel titles. This is especially helpful when real-life obligations make you miss a scheduled week.
How to follow the group without spoiling the story
Community playthroughs work best when everyone knows what may be discussed, where it may be discussed and how far ahead a participant may be. Use the event’s rules as the authority; the following practices are a safe default when rules are incomplete.
Use milestone-gated conversations
Read only the channel or post marked for your current checkpoint. If the event uses dates instead of story milestones, check whether the date is a minimum release time or a required completion deadline. Never assume that a post dated for the same week is safe if you are still behind.

- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.

Separate technical questions from plot discussion
Ask installation, controller or menu questions in a channel that is explicitly spoiler-safe. When you need to describe what you see, quote only the minimum on-screen text needed to diagnose the problem. A screenshot can expose character names or locations, so crop it or use the event’s spoiler formatting.
Label ahead-of-schedule comments
If you finish early, keep later discoveries in the event’s designated spoiler area. A warning in a sentence title is not enough if the rest of the title gives away the outcome; follow the organizer’s masking method and milestone labels.
Handle missed sessions quietly
If you fall behind, do not request a public recap that includes uncovered story information. Ask whether the organizer keeps a spoiler-safe summary or wait until you reach the checkpoint. If you move ahead, continue to use the appropriate later channel rather than posting in the current-week discussion.

Move a save between devices with cross progression
Cross progression is optional. It is useful when a participant starts on one device and continues elsewhere, but it is not required to participate in a discussion group. CD PROJEKT RED’s official PC support directions describe this sequence:
- Update the game to the latest patch on the source and destination systems.
- On the source installation, open Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression and turn the feature on.
- Confirm that the accounts and platform versions you intend to use are supported. The instructions establish the feature, not universal compatibility for every account, store or platform combination.
- Start the game on the destination platform and use My Rewards when prompted or when the menu makes that option available.
- Check that the expected save appears before continuing, then make a new save on the destination device.
The publisher’s My Rewards information describes continuing a playthrough elsewhere. Keep your original save until you have verified the transferred one; do not delete the source copy as a first troubleshooting step.
What Remastered compatibility does and does not promise
CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered announcement says save files remain compatible and that cross progression continues to function as before. That is a publisher statement about the edition’s compatibility, not a guarantee that every combination of platform account, store version and region will work without checking. If the destination does not show the save, verify the patch level, account identity, feature setting and platform support before trying again.

Troubleshoot common starting and transfer problems
| Symptom | Likely check | Safe next step |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot find a co-op or party option. | The game is single-player; the community event is not an in-game multiplayer lobby. | Launch your own save and use the event’s discussion venue for group participation. |
| The menu does not say exactly “New Game.” | Your platform or updated build may use different labels from the original PC manual. | Look for the new-save command in the main menu and follow your platform’s current wording. |
| The group’s instructions do not match your screens. | You may be using a different edition, platform or patch. | Confirm the expected edition and install the latest update before asking the organizer for platform-specific help. |
| A transferred save is missing. | Cross progression may be off, the game may be out of date, or the account/platform combination may not be supported. | Recheck Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression, update both installations, launch the destination version and select My Rewards. Keep the original save. |
| You are unsure whether a discussion is safe. | The event’s spoiler boundary is unclear or the post is ahead of your checkpoint. | Do not open it; ask the organizer for a spoiler-safe location and the exact milestone covered. |
| The organizer’s start information is incomplete. | The event may not have published its platform, schedule or venue yet. | Request those details before committing, or play privately until they are confirmed. |
A practical cadence for participants
If the organizer has not supplied a detailed routine, suggest one rather than guessing at a story route. A workable cadence contains five elements:
- Start window: the date and time after which everyone may begin.
- Progress boundary: a named quest, chapter, region or other unambiguous stopping point supplied by the organizer.
- Discussion window: when the group opens conversation about that boundary.
- Catch-up policy: whether late players may join and where they can ask questions without seeing future revelations.
- Pause or reset rule: what happens if an update, transfer issue or personal schedule prevents a participant from reaching the checkpoint.
This approach avoids telling newcomers to follow an invented “correct” quest line. The game is open-world, and the community’s agreement—not an unofficial route—determines what counts as being on schedule.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What organizers should publish for a smooth playthrough
If you are running the event, put the operational information in one pinned post before the first session:
- Name the edition and platforms you will support, including whether Remastered is required.
- State the start date, time zone and expected pace.
- Identify the discussion venue and the channel for technical questions.
- Define spoiler boundaries with milestone labels and a clear policy for participants who are ahead.
- Explain whether cross-platform saves are relevant and point participants to the official cross-progression instructions rather than promising universal compatibility.
- Provide a method for reporting missed checkpoints or transfer failures privately.
- Keep event status current. If membership, dates or platform support changes, update the pinned instructions instead of relying on old comments.
Do not advertise a join link, acceptance status or schedule until it has been confirmed by the actual organizer. A generic community page may describe the format without representing a currently active event.
Edition and account checks before a shared start
Use this short checklist on the day before the group begins:
- Game installed on the device you will use for the first session.
- Latest available patch installed, especially if cross progression may be needed.
- Correct platform account signed in and enough storage available for saves and updates.
- Edition matches the organizer’s instructions.
- New Game location identified in the current main menu.
- Event start time, progress boundary, discussion venue and spoiler policy saved somewhere you can consult while playing.
- Original save retained if you are testing a transfer.
Frequently asked practical questions
Can I join if I play on a different platform?
Only the organizer can decide whether that is acceptable for the event. Discussion can be shared across platforms, but the edition’s interface, update and save behavior may differ. Ask which platforms the event supports before starting.

Do I need to use Remastered?
Not unless the event says so. The official page currently describes Remastered as an updated edition, while the Remastered announcement says existing saves remain compatible. Confirm the group’s expectation and your platform’s current edition before beginning.
Is there a required quest order for a beginner?
The supplied event information does not establish a universal route. Follow the organizer’s published milestone if one exists; otherwise, ask for a spoiler-safe recommendation instead of relying on an unofficial “correct” order.
Can I watch someone else play instead of owning the game?
A watch-along can be part of a community’s discussion format, but participating in the game itself requires access to your own single-player copy and save. Check the event’s rules to see whether observers are welcome.

What if I start before the official group date?
You can play privately, but mark your progress and avoid the group’s discussion channels until the event’s spoiler boundary permits it. Starting early may place you ahead of readers who are following the shared schedule.
The simplest way to begin
Install the edition your event specifies, update it, open the main menu and choose New Game. Then play on your own save to the first agreed checkpoint and discuss only within the event’s spoiler rules. If you change devices, enable cross progression through Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression, launch the destination version and use My Rewards after confirming that your accounts and platforms are supported. The most important preparation is not finding a multiplayer button; it is confirming the event’s organizer, schedule, platform assumptions and spoiler boundary.
