Hallowed Concepts is available for Risk of Rain 2. Install the DLC through your platform, start a run, then look for a gong in a stage: ring it to enter a Trial. On Steam, the expansion requires the base game. The official sources confirm the in-run gong route, but do not document a universal menu toggle or exact platform-specific setup sequence.
What you need before starting
- The base game: Steam states that Hallowed Concepts requires Risk of Rain 2. Check your platform’s game or library tools to confirm the DLC is installed; the official sources do not specify platform-by-platform installation clicks.
- The expansion, or a co-op host who owns it: Steam lists the DLC’s release date as October 8, 2026, and 2K says release began that day for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Availability and setup details can vary by platform.
For the DLC’s monsters, levels, and items to appear in a multiplayer lobby, Steam says one player in the lobby must own it. Non-owners cannot select its new Survivors or permanently unlock its DLC content.

How to access the Trials
- Launch Risk of Rain 2 and start a run.
- Explore the stages and watch for a gong. The developer describes gongs placed in stages by N’Kuhana’s followers; it does not provide a guaranteed location for a particular stage.
- Read the Trial prompt and objective shown in the game, then ring the gong to enter. Trials have different objectives, so check what the encounter asks before committing.
- At a Trial reward area, choose whether to collect the reward and continue or ring another gong to start another Trial. Chained Trials share a timer.
What happens in a Trial?
The developer groups Trials into three families: Winnowings of Survival, Predation, and Mortality. Examples in the official preview include breaking enough lanterns in the Trial of Broken Glass, turning a fortune before time runs out in the Trial of Infernal Greed, and feeding the fog in the Trial of the Abyss. These examples are not a complete list; follow the objective presented for the Trial you find.

Continuing from a reward area is a time-management choice: the timer carries across chained Trials, while the objective and reward depend on the encounter. The developer does not give one rule for when every player should continue.

2K’s October 8, 2026 patch notes describe Hallowed Concepts as purchasable DLC4 and list Enforcer as unlocked by default and Acolyte as unlockable. The notes also list the N’Tormat Curio, new enemies and bosses, standard and Trial stages, interactables, Hexes, Hallowed Items, standard items, skins, and music. They distinguish the paid expansion from free base-game updates included in the same patch, so not every change in those notes necessarily requires buying the DLC.

For exact platform-specific menu steps, use the current in-game interface or an official support guide for your platform; the official release and Trial announcements establish how to begin a Trial during a run, not a universal pre-run DLC toggle.
