Where to start the quest
Travel to Devil’s Pit in Velen, east of Mulbrydale, and speak with the Eternal Fire priest outside the mine. His conversation provides the lead that starts the quest and directs Geralt into the pit.

What level should Geralt be?
Published level guidance differs: VULKK describes the quest as early-game content and recommends level 6, while TheSixthAxis lists level 15. Treat those as separate guide recommendations, not a settled minimum. If Geralt is below the higher recommendation, prepare for a challenging fight rather than assuming the encounter will be easy.

Follow the quest markers through the mine, paying attention to Reinald’s letters and other notes. They establish what happened and provide context for the conversations near the end. Reinald’s Philter is optional preparation identified by a walkthrough; using it before the later fight may help, particularly if Geralt is underleveled.

Defeat the mine’s enemies
- Continue along the marked route until you encounter possessed Reinald. Defeat him to advance.
- Proceed to the Red Miasmal and defeat it.
- After the battle, speak with Reinald’s spirit to resolve the story and finish the quest.
Dialogue choices and the priest’s fate
The outcome is not fixed: choices in the concluding conversation affect what happens to the priest. If you want him to survive and remain at Devil’s Pit, bring him to speak with Reinald and take a conciliatory approach. Surface what Geralt learned in the mine, including the example of a priest who stayed behind to help; the outcome depends on the conversation as a whole, not just one isolated line.

Quest reward and later gear
Completing the quest awards the basic Forgotten Wolven armor and weapon diagrams. A separate scavenger hunt provides later upgrades; those upgrades are not the basic quest reward.
