To start a kids music channel with continuous YouTube live streams, prepare original, age-appropriate music and visuals, set the audience accurately in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, clear rights for both livestreaming and any archives, and run the stream through an encoder. Treat “continuous” as a schedule of shorter live sessions: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as archives. A stream can stay live while it is running, but YouTube’s general setup guidance does not promise uninterrupted 24/7 service.
Plan the channel around a real audience and a varied program
Choose what families will hear and see
Decide what the channel offers before building a long playlist. A focused format might combine original sing-alongs, lullabies, movement songs, or music organized around themes. Pair the audio with visuals that are suitable for children and change meaningfully across the program. Plan a human monitoring routine as well as the playlist: someone should be able to respond if playback stops or an unexpected sound or image appears.

Original work gives you more control over rights, but it does not by itself guarantee monetization. YouTube’s monetization policy describes repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content.” A loop is not automatically disallowed, but a channel relying on identical tracks, static imagery, or near-identical templates risks failing to provide the original, varied value YouTube expects. Changing only a title, background color, or playlist order does not guarantee eligibility.

Decide whether the content is Made for Kids
Set the audience based on who the content is actually made for. YouTube requires creators to designate qualifying content as Made for Kids; this is not an engagement setting to switch off because some features are unavailable. For a live stream, make the selection in the audience field in Live Control Room rather than relying on automated classification.

Made for Kids designation affects the experience and advertising. YouTube disables live chat and personalized ads on these live streams; contextual ads may still appear. Other audience features are limited as well. Consider these effects when planning how families will interact with the channel, but do not use a different audience designation to preserve features if it would be inaccurate.
Clear music rights for both the live stream and its archive
YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to hold the rights needed to use Live Content on Google services, including applicable music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. A recording being available online, or a license covering ordinary playback, does not establish that you may rebroadcast it live or keep an archive.

Check the scope of every license
Before scheduling a stream, confirm in writing that your rights cover the planned use. Check that they include:
- Livestreaming on YouTube, not only on-demand video or personal listening.
- Archiving or replaying the stream, if you intend to keep the recording available.
- The territories where viewers may watch.
- The specific channel and music included in the program.
- Any required credit, reporting, or other license conditions.
Keep license records accessible to the person monitoring the channel. If a rights owner uses Content ID, ask whether the channel must be added to an allowlist and confirm that this has been done. A license alone may not prevent an automated interruption if the channel is not allowlisted where that is required.

Know what can happen during a live broadcast
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder replacing the stream, an interruption, or termination. That can happen even when you believe you have permission, so resolve allowlisting and licensing questions before going live rather than treating an active stream as a rights test.
Choose an encoder and prepare the YouTube event
You can start with software encoding; a dedicated hardware encoder is an optional route for creators who need a higher-production-value hardware workflow. YouTube’s guidance does not make expensive equipment a baseline requirement or endorse a particular encoder model. Choose based on the production you need and your ability to monitor it.

- Open YouTube Studio and Live Control Room. Create a live event or schedule one there. Set its title and audience truthfully, and choose the timing that fits your program schedule.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from the YouTube event into the matching fields in your software or hardware encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to broadcast to the channel.
- Set the encoder’s video and audio output. Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance for the resolution, frame rate, encoding format, bitrate, and keyframe settings supported by your chosen setup. These values depend on the output you intend to send; do not copy a bitrate or keyframe value from an unrelated preset without checking that it matches your video and encoder.
- Start the encoder before the scheduled event and check the preview. Confirm that the incoming picture and sound are correct before making the stream public. Check audio levels and listen for clipping, silence, or unwanted material; inspect the image for black frames, unexpected overlays, or content that is not appropriate for the intended audience.
- Verify the stream from a viewer’s perspective. Check the channel or watch page and a mobile device, not just the encoder’s local preview. YouTube recommends checking the live output and continuously monitoring audio and video.
- Confirm that a local recording is being saved. If you need an archive, verify that the local recording is growing while the stream runs. Keep enough storage available and retain the file until you have checked the resulting archive.
YouTube recommends setting up in advance and checking the preview and local archive. The exact encoder controls differ by software or hardware, so use the current instructions for the encoder you choose rather than assuming every interface uses the same labels.

Build continuity with shorter sessions, not one oversized archive
YouTube’s current archive guidance says streams under 12 hours can automatically archive, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. The 12-hour figure is an operating threshold in YouTube Help guidance, not a promise that every shorter stream will archive successfully.

If you want a continuous listening schedule and need YouTube archives, plan consecutive sessions that each stay under 12 hours. End one session and start the next as a separate event; do not describe the result as an uninterrupted single live event. Keep a local recording as a backup, and check that it is being saved during the broadcast. YouTube’s general setup information does not establish a particular failover design or guarantee continuous 24/7 availability.
Understand monetization and children’s-content limits
YouTube Partner Program creators may monetize live streams, subject to eligibility and applicable policies. Made for Kids live streams do not receive personalized ads, though contextual ads may appear. A channel aimed primarily at children must also follow YouTube’s kids-and-family quality principles, and the inauthentic-content policy can affect monetization where material is repetitive or mass-produced.
There is no reliable revenue estimate from the information available here: earnings depend on factors such as eligibility, audience, and ad delivery. Build the channel first around rights-cleared programming that offers children meaningful variety, rather than assuming a long loop or a high number of live hours will produce a particular income.
