To start a Hindi podcast radio stream on YouTube with OBS, first enable live streaming on a verified channel, create a live event in YouTube Live Control Room, then connect OBS with the stream URL and private stream key YouTube provides. Set a clear voice mix and a video bitrate your upload connection can sustain, test the full setup before broadcast, and use only audio you have the rights to stream.
1. Check YouTube live-stream eligibility before show day
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. The platform also states that a creator must be at least 16 to live stream. For a first live stream, activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable and confirm access well before scheduling a Hindi show. See YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room to check whether live streaming is available for the channel.
- If YouTube asks you to verify the channel or enable live streaming, complete that process and allow for the possible activation delay.
- Resolve any live-stream restriction before planning the broadcast; do not assume OBS can bypass a YouTube restriction.
2. Create the event and connect OBS
OBS is free, open-source software; OBS Project advises downloading it from the official OBS site and says it can be used commercially without restrictions. YouTube describes encoder streaming as useful when you are using external audio/video equipment or want a more advanced production. Menu labels can vary by software version, so use the current OBS streaming settings rather than relying on an outdated screenshot.
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream. Enter a Hindi title and description that accurately identify the podcast, and select the audience and visibility settings appropriate for the programme.
- Choose the encoder workflow in the Live Control Room. YouTube will provide the stream URL and stream key for the event.
- In OBS, open its streaming settings, select the YouTube service if offered, and enter or connect the stream URL and key supplied by YouTube. Use the current OBS interface for the exact field names.
- Keep the stream key private. Anyone who gets it may be able to send a broadcast to your channel. Do not show it in a screen share, recording, public document, or message to guests.
- Build a simple scene: add a still title card, logo, or other visual you have permission to use, then add the microphone input. A radio-style programme does not need a camera, but YouTube still requires an encoder video signal, so a static image can provide the visual component.

3. Set up clean speech audio
Start with one microphone
For a solo host, one dependable microphone placed consistently is the simplest starting point. Select it as the audio input in OBS and speak at the same distance and volume you expect to use on air. Watch OBS’s audio meter while talking: speech should register clearly without reaching the clipping/red zone. Do a test recording or private/unlisted rehearsal and listen back, because a meter alone will not reveal room echo, fan noise, or harsh sound.
Monitor without creating feedback
Headphones help a host hear the show mix and can prevent speaker audio from feeding back into the microphone. If you are hosting with other people in one room or remote contributors, check how each microphone is routed and avoid sending the programme mix back into an open microphone.

Add gear only when the format needs it
A USB microphone is a directly relevant optional purchase, not a requirement. A headset can help with monitoring. A mixer or audio interface is mainly useful for a multi-microphone production or more involved routing; YouTube says expensive equipment is not necessary to get started. 4. Choose stream settings for your connection
For speech-led radio, a stable stream matters more than pushing the highest resolution. Use a static image or modest motion graphic and choose a video resolution and frame rate your actual upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio for RTMP/RTMPS. Its stereo audio recommendations include 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps bitrate.

These bitrate figures are YouTube Help recommendations for H.264 at the stated resolution and frame rate, not India-specific network thresholds. Other resolutions, frame rates, or codecs have different recommendations. Consult Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the current table and choose a setting compatible with your encoder.
Test the upload direction, not just download speed. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload headroom above the stream bitrate. For example, a stream configured at 5 Mbps needs more than 5 Mbps of stable upload capacity; the margin helps absorb fluctuations and competing use on a shared home or office network. The 20% figure is YouTube Help guidance, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable.

5. Test the complete broadcast before going live
- Run an upload speed test on the same connection and, if possible, at a time similar to the planned show. If others share the network, account for their usage.
- Start OBS and send a rehearsal stream to the event or a private/unlisted test setup. Use the same microphone, image or motion, scenes, and speaking level planned for the actual broadcast.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before the public start. Confirm the picture appears, the voice is audible, and the stream health indicator does not show a problem.
- Listen on another device with headphones if possible. This helps catch silent audio, excessive noise, wrong input selection, or a sound/picture mismatch.
- During the live programme, keep the Live Control Room open and monitor stream health and audio/video quality. Avoid changing scenes, devices, or network arrangements mid-show unless needed to recover.
YouTube’s Streaming tips recommend testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream, leaving bandwidth headroom, and checking the preview and stream health.

YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. If copyrighted material remains in a stream, YouTube may replace it with a placeholder, interrupt it temporarily, or terminate the stream. This matters for a radio-style podcast that uses intro music, beds, jingles, guest clips, film or television excerpts, or songs.

- Use original audio, material you have permission to broadcast live on YouTube, or music whose licence clearly covers this use. A track available through a streaming subscription or a purchase does not by itself establish live-broadcast rights.
- A licence may not prevent an automated interruption. YouTube says a rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist for licensed third-party content.
- Keep records of permissions and confirm that they cover the relevant track, territory, platform, and live use. If you cannot establish those rights, leave the material out of the show.

7. Troubleshoot common problems
