You can start a devotional podcast stream on YouTube by enabling live streaming on an eligible channel, creating a scheduled encoder stream in YouTube Studio, and sending the feed from an encoder using YouTube’s stream URL and key. A true 24/7 broadcast needs more than a working start: plan for connection or encoder failures, check rights for every recording, and do not rely on YouTube to archive one continuous session longer than 12 hours. YouTube’s cited guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but does not promise a complete replay for longer streams.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel verified for live streaming, with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- An encoder: software on a computer or dedicated hardware that sends your audio and video to YouTube. For a podcast with a static image, recorded programming, or multiple audio and visual sources, the encoder workflow is adaptable; dedicated hardware is not automatically required.
- A stable internet connection with enough measured upload capacity for your chosen stream settings, plus a plan for monitoring and recovery.
- Content you have the necessary rights to livestream, including any music and sound recordings.
YouTube does not establish that an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast is guaranteed or specify one universal maximum duration for every account and region. Treat continuous operation as something to plan and monitor, not a platform promise.

Create a scheduled stream in YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room. If live streaming is not enabled, follow YouTube’s eligibility and setup prompts before scheduling.
- Create or schedule a stream. Enter its title, description, visibility, and other event details. Scheduling creates a watch page that you can share before the broadcast begins.
- In Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Start the encoder feed, then wait for YouTube’s preview. Check the picture, audio levels, and synchronization before starting the public stream from Live Control Room.
- Open the watch page on a phone or another device and confirm that viewers can hear and see the program as intended.
For YouTube’s current encoder workflow, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Choose video, audio, and bitrate settings
For ordinary SDR streaming over RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 frames per second, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the feed in transit to Google’s servers. Use settings your encoder supports and choose bitrate according to the resolution, frame rate, and measured upload capacity—not your download speed.

| Example H.264 setting | YouTube-listed recommended bitrate | When it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | A modest visual presentation or static-image podcast, provided the measured connection can sustain the feed with headroom. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | A sharper visual presentation where the upload connection can sustain the higher bitrate. |
These are YouTube’s recommended values for the specified H.264 resolutions and frame rate, not a claim that every podcast needs them. For an audio-led program with a still image, a higher resolution may add little for viewers; prioritize clean audio and a bitrate your connection can maintain. Check YouTube’s full, codec-specific ranges and settings at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
RTMP(S) or HLS?
RTMPS is YouTube’s recommended encrypted ingest option for a typical encoder setup. HLS is an alternative only if your encoder supports YouTube’s HLS requirements: YouTube says it has higher latency than RTMP and requires specified segment and playlist settings. For a basic devotional podcast, HLS is not necessary.

Plan for a stream that stays up
A 24/7 stream can fail when its encoder, computer, power, or network stops working. YouTube warns that connectivity disruptions can break a stream. It recommends testing the actual setup, checking the Live Control Room preview, monitoring stream health, and testing any backup or failover arrangement. Its guidance recommends upload capacity with 20% headroom over the stream bitrate.
- Test the real connection. Measure upload speed where the encoder will run, at the time and on the network you intend to use. Leave the recommended 20% headroom; a speed-test result is not a guarantee of sustained performance.
- Test before the public launch. Confirm that the encoder connects, the preview appears, and viewers can hear the audio clearly. Check from a phone using the same watch page viewers will use.
- Assign monitoring and recovery. Decide who checks the stream, how they will learn it has stopped, and who can restart the encoder and verify the public watch page. Test any backup network or failover process rather than assuming it will work.
- Consider power protection based on your equipment. A UPS may help keep a computer and network equipment running through some interruptions, but YouTube does not require one or specify a size or runtime. Choose based on the equipment load and the backup time you need.
YouTube’s guidance does not specify a 24/7 automation product or promise that one computer and one internet connection will provide resilient continuous service. Read its streaming tips and plan for a person or tested process to respond when something goes wrong.

- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Plan replays separately from continuous broadcasting
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not promise a complete archive for a continuous stream lasting longer than 12 hours. If a replay matters, do not assume a 24-hour-plus broadcast will become one complete recording.
- Consider dividing the schedule into shorter, separately created streams, keeping each session under 12 hours if automatic archiving is important. This follows YouTube’s stated archive guidance; it does not guarantee how every stream or account will be handled.
- Make an independent local recording when you need a master copy. Verify that the file is being written and is usable rather than assuming the encoder or platform has saved it.
- Test the archive behavior with a stream before relying on it for a major event, and check the current Live Control Room options.
YouTube’s advice to verify local archive files and its under-12-hour archive statement are the basis for this cautious workflow; they are not a guarantee of platform behavior for every setup.

Clear music and performance rights before streaming
YouTube’s live-stream terms require content to comply with its Community Guidelines and applicable law. They also place responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights for use on Google services, including music licensing rights. A devotional subject or religious purpose does not automatically establish that you can broadcast a particular song or recording.
India’s Copyright Act, 1957 defines communication to the public broadly and treats musical works, sound recordings, and performances within its copyright framework. Section 52(1)(za) includes an exception for certain performances or communications in the course of a bona fide religious ceremony, but that wording alone does not establish that a devotional podcast, continuous online radio-style channel, or recorded devotional music outside a ceremony qualifies. This is practical rights diligence, not legal advice.

See the YouTube Terms of Service, including livestream terms, the Copyright Act, 1957, and section 52 of the Act. Do not treat the ceremony exception as blanket clearance for devotional content.
Monetization is optional
YouTube says channels in the YouTube Partner Program can monetize live streams, but monetization is not a prerequisite to starting one. Check your current eligibility and settings in YouTube Studio before building a budget or revenue expectation around live-stream ads.
